No cars, plenty of shopping, food, and outdoor seating combine to make this a welcoming area. Outside of this corridor, we noticed many people sleeping on benches and under trees, but there was no evidence of that here.

The historic downtown is beautiful and has a ton of really tastey restaurants and shops to look in. Great way to spend a causal afternoon

We enjoyed walking the length of the mall. Deciding if we wanted to have dessert someplace or stop in for a drink.

Good food, good shopping, and great people watching. It can get packed on weekend nights when the weather is good. Take advantage of the many restaurants that offer outdoor seating when the weather suits.

There’s something for everyone - unique shops, street vendors, music, food, theaters, and friendly people. Live after 5 music event on one end of the mall on Fridays for a small, maybe $5, entry fee. Convenient, cheap parking garage. Feels safe during daylight at least....More

I did not particularly like the downtown mall it was not my cup of tea. Several small shops with unique items and the like. It appeared to be a safe place and plenty of room to sit and people-watch. I believe my trip to Charlottesville...More

I was appalled by the number of mentally challenged men on the downtown mall in Charlottesville! It was a frightening experience as many approach with lewd and rude comments."The Corner" has the same problem. What is going on???

In my experience, many outdoor eating places may allow dogs. As for stores, we didn't have our dog with us, but as we travel, we find that more and more stores do allow dogs (except food stores).
