We had a great time, the guide is very knowledgeable of the surroundings, the history and the natural habitats , he made it very pleasant along the ride. We also stop at the winery for some wine tasting.

Absolutely Perfect! I surprised my husband this weekend with the kayaking wine tour for our 27th anniversary and it was FANTASTIC !! We met our tour guide, Zach at the boat launch (which is in the middle of nowhere, if you’re not a “local”). He gave us a quick lesson on kayaking and then we started the journey. The water was calm and the weather was perfect. Zach gave us some fun facts as we paddled through different areas and gave us an incredible tour of the winery. There were only 2 others with us in our group so it really felt like a private tour. We sat outside at the winery and enjoyed our flights of wine and ordered a bread and cheese plate (additional cost). The paddle back was just as enjoyable as the paddle there. I recommend this trip 100%, even if you’re not a wine drinker. Such a fun and unique experience and you don’t need to have kayaking experience either!! My husband and I will never forget this amazing day!

We booked the ESVA Wildlife Refuge and really enjoyed our trip with guide Nick. Our group of 4 all had singles and we were joined by another family of four. Nick provided information on the local area as we paddled out to Racoon Island. The scenery was breathtaking and we enjoyed a swim in the bay at Racoon Island. The tour company also picked up waters for a few members of our group who were unprepared. Would defintely recommend.

Months before COVID-19 reared its ugly head, friends and I planned a trip to Cape Charles. Part of that trip involved taking this kayak trip to the Chatham Winery. Sounded like it was up our alley. Two things we enjoy, wine and kayaking. We planned about two months in advance and booked the trip. Our trip was to happen in April. The payment was taken and we thought we were set.
Then the Coronavirus came along to upset everyone’s plans.
I emailed Southeast Expeditions to inquire on our reservation status. They were pretty good at responding...initially. I asked if the COVID-19 would hinder our kayaking plans. We still wanted to go but weren’t sure if we would be put on a mandatory lockdown. They responded and said that we were still set but to give them our thoughts on what we wanted to do. Sounds like cancellation was an option. So I responded we still wanted to go and asked but what if the virus should force us to cancel the trip (which it did in the end), what was their refund policy?
No response. I emailed them again and asked the same question (but I was a lot less kind) and I got nothing in return.
What kind of business offers no response? I understand these are strange times and new circumstances but what if it was just a horrific storm that came along and we couldn’t kayak? They have no refund policy to offer? No response to offer? Silence.
To this day, four months after making the reservations I have received no response. They had no problem cashing in the $400+ dollars promptly that we paid them.
Do yourself a favor, steer clear of this shady “business”.

This is a situation that we deeply regret, have remedied (by processing the refund 2 different ways as soon as the problem was brought to our attention), and apologized for. I have continued to look into this situation and I have discovered that the mistake made was mine. I was using the messaging function within the refund process of our online booking program to communicate and process the cancellation / refund. We received confirmation that the cancellation was processed, but I was unaware that the refund of payment was not processed and remained as "store credit". This also meant that my message was not sent as it was part of the refund receipt.
When the customer called and spoke to one of our staff members, he immediately alerted me, and took the pro-active stance of sending a refund payment through an online service while I went back and found the store credit in the cancellation and refunded the original charge. The result of both of us responding was that the payment was actually refunded twice - or so we thought.
A desire to ensure that we had properly addressed this whole mess led me to re-check our system today and I found that the store credit remained. So I called the booking company and they explained that since we hadn't received any bookings on the day(s) that the refund was processed, their system automatically converted the charge to store credit. This was done without notifying us or the customer. Apparently they have not developed the capability to process a refund without booking funds from that specific day to withdraw from. This is not a problem that we have encountered in the past, but it is a major flaw in the system, and one that we are now aware of and are remedying by switching to a different booking services provider.
I am not trying to pass the buck. I am the one who chose the system that we used, and this is a function that I did not have the foresight to ask about. It seems to me like the type of thing that would be obviously inherent in the functionality of an online booking system. But it's my fault that we were not aware of the problem.
I sincerely regret that your experience was so horrible, and I give you my word that this is not representative of our business and how we operate. You have every right to be indignant and angry. I would be too. I apologize that in a time when so much is chaotic and uncertain in the world that we contributed additional stress to your life. Our mission is to do exactly the opposite.
Sincerely,
Dave Burden

We had a fantastic kayaking tour of a wildlife refuge with Robin as our guide from SouthEast Expeditions. Along with another couple, we explored the local marsh as well as an uninhabited barrier island. We never would have seen the amazing things and places we saw, thanks to Robin's expert guidance. The natural beauty was astounding, and we learned lots about flora, fauna, and history. The company's expertise also shone through when high winds caused a slight delay in the tour's start time. With astonishing accuracy, the company predicted when the winds would die down and it would be safe for our tour to begin. This was a real highlight of our trip to the area.

Great guide and experience. It was awesome views from the water and seeing a bald eagle fly directly overhead was amazing. The stop at the winery always awesome (great wine, snacks, and service). Would recommend to anyone looking for a fun adventure and think it’s good for lots of ability levels :)

Great experience! The tour guides were patient and informative. They kept the group together and even helped our kayaker who needed a little extra help. They made this a great experience for our family. Our 9-year-old enjoyed the tour.

“Paddle Your Glass Off” - that’s what we did. After reading about the expeditions in Southern Living we booked the kayak to a wine tasting. Robyn was our guide. We don’t have a point of reference, but she was the best! She is very personable and has a great knowledge of the area’s environment and history. The 45 minute kayak trip flew by. We thought that when arrived at Chatham Vineyard someone else would guide the tasting, but nope, Robyn guided us through the tasting also. The equipment was in good shape. Now all they need to do is offer t-shirts!

My mom is a Cape Charles local and has always wanted to go kayaking, so my brother and I took her on the tour to Chatham Vineyards for her 75th birthday! They ended up having to reschedule us for a different day then we originally planned due to weather, but were very communicative and accommodating. We had a great time with our guide Emma. She was knowledgeable of the wildlife and history of the area. She was also super helpful getting my mom a comfortable/easy-to-handle boat. We all had a great time and would definitely do it again!

The Chatham Winery kayak tour was a great experience. Our guide Nick was very knowledgeable about the ecology, aquaculture, and history of the area. The Church Creek is a beautiful waterway and we saw many shore birds including two bald eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, and more. It was a hot day so the occasional rest stops and bird watching was welcome. The winery was beautiful and ready for our group with a nice sampling of very good wines. We ordered the cheese and bread plates and glasses of our favorite wine, before filling our water bottles and heading back with bottles of wine. What a unique and fun way to go wine tasting!

Do you have to know how to swim? We have seniors in our group, can they join the tour?

My apologies for not seeing the Q&A section here on TA. I know it's too late for your visit, but wanted to answer your question so that others may benefit from it.
We require all paddlers to wear a PFD (lifejacket) so it is not a requirement that you know how to swim. However, as stable and comfortable as the kayaks are, we can never completely eliminate the chance that you could tip the kayak over in deeper water and need to float in your PFD for a minute or so while we get you settled back into your kayak. So you do need to be comfortable in the water. We also request that if you cannot swim, or are a nervous swimmer, to please let your guide know. We will maintain your confidentiality, but know to keep an extra close eye on you and put you in the most stable kayak available.

Hi, Just sent an email to the address on your website. Pardon the duplicate request! We would love to come on some of your tours when we are in the area next month, but we have our own Perceptions (SOTs) and gear. I do not see prices posted anywhere on your site for this?
Thanks for the consideration!

I am in Cape Charles from May 16-20. I would like to rent a two man kayak for those days. Could you deliver to the house we're renting? What would be the cost? Also what is the cost for the winery tour?
