Lots of history on display

Great docent, he was a student from VT. There is a lot to see inside this house, beautifully maintained, they are currently working on restoring the gardens, but they have them well marked up and it's fascinating. Interesting visit, not too long.

Grounds are well taken care of with period gardens and other elements. Tours are interesting explaining what you see. The gift shop has cool items as well.

With as many places we have visited with Colonial Era ties, it's always nice to learn new things. Tour guide Jessica was great!

Smithfield Plantation is located on the grounds of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. It is well preserved and surrounded by beautiful land and gardens. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and answered all our questions. Great for a side trip if you are in the area.

Gem in Blacksburg

This historic location can teach people so much history about this part of Virginia. People think everyone in Virginia was living east of Richmond, but there was a lot going on in the western part of the state. Great place to see and such a scenic location.

Smithfield Plantation visit
Aug 2019
We did not get to tour the plantation, they were having a private tour. We walked around on our own and looked at the out buildings.

If you are a history buff you will enjoy Smithfield Plantation. We were looking for something to do when we visited our adult son who happens to love history. Our tour guide Byrce gave us a wonderful tour full of facts and history jokes. The grounds of the Plantation are beautiful to walk around once your tour is done.

Wish we had more time

We went with a large group to the Plantation. We walked around the grounds, seeing all of the outbuildings and the magnificent herb garden. There were too many of us to go on one tour so my husband and I decided to come back later. However, we ran out of time and never made it back. While we were in the gift shop we were able to look at some of the artifacts and peek into the house and it looked amazing. Friends who did the tour later told us how good it was.

worth the visit!

This plantation house has been lovingly kept, and has some very nice features -including the garden in front of the gift store (which is unusually reasonable). Well worth some time - note we did not take the tour; but those who took it seemed very pleased to have done so. Walked around the grounds - enjoying the various vistas and buildings.
