We accidentally stumbled upon this cider mill on RT 100 . Witnessing Cider making process and tasting plus other nice souvenirs options makes this worth a visit. Across street they have hard cider tasting room where you can taste 3 tasting for free.

Stopped in to see what they offered and was impressed with how many items made of Cider. Donuts, cookies, jams, sugars and hotdogs steamed in cider but only on the weekends.

In the old town of Waterbury lies this old place where they used to make cold cidar. They still use the age old method of manual press to make cidar. Worth a stop for a cidar and donuts.

It seems like you weren't thrilled with your visit, any suggestions for improvements that may have made the visit more enjoyable? We still make cold cider and press the old fashioned rack-and-cloth way.

Although we are local, we always enjoy a trip to Cold Hollow, not only for the fantastic cider and cider donuts, but to find wonderful unique "VT" gifts for family and friends during the holiday season.

The place always makes very good donuts and cider. It is a typical tourist stop as prices are high on ordinary items.

Effects of Hurricane Irene (3 Replies)
I haven't seen any mention of damage in the Stowe area from the hurricane, but thought I would ask the question in case. Other than the bridges on Hwy 100, was there much damage that would effect a tourist? I did see the Quechee video (yikes). Any areas we need to avoid? Any hotels/B&Bs suffer damage? I saw a note on the Cold Hollow Cider Mill webpage that said they were open, but referenced a lot of damage in the area. Thanks in advance. We look forward to our visit.

Evening Moneeman, I understand Stowe and nearly all the north country had no damage. Places that were hit tend to be localised, like Quechee covered bridge and Simon Pearce, but the Parker House Inn right next door and a few feet higher was I believe totally undamaged. In Woodstock only the Woodstock Inn hotel had any damage as a lodging establishment, and several riverside homes were badly affected. The village centre was totally undamaged. When are you visiting? I think there are very...More

Help us pick: Cheese & other farms to visit (7 Replies)
We are visiting VT in a couple of weeks and I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the great cheese, maple sugar and other food tour/sample/visit options. Any feedback among the ones on our list would help us narrow it down. If it helps, some context - we are from San Francisco, and traveling with two kiddos - age 4 and 1. I'm sure the kids will love those options with animals etc but we are also big foodies and want to visit any places that have great food or a good tour. Our list: Sugarbush...More

Hill Farmstead is a brewery...the beer is AMAZING. I highly recommend. Keep in mind that it is not maple sugar season so you won't see the process of how it is made, but you sure will be able to sample/buy some. I like Morse Farm.

Woodstock or Stowe for day trip? (9 Replies)
Ok, I think I am going to get a perma-ban from the Vermont forum with my persistent procrastinating and flip-flopping! Please bear with me for one more query :) As you may remember from my previous posts, we were originally due to stay in Woodstock for 2 nights, but we cancelled this to spend an extra night in the White Mountains and Acadia. I have really begun to regret that we won’t be seeing Vermont and so have decided to visit a Vermont village for a day trip from Jackson. I had...More

Both are special places but woodstock has more quaintness imho. You are just going to return (many times) for all the places you are going to miss.
