Nice park
Sep 2019
So last week was the Happy Anniversary for me and my Lady. We Two were in the mood for a Cool Change and even though It’s a Long Way There, our Curiosity brought us here. There were So Many Paths from which to choose, but we opted for the Stevenson Brook Trail up > Dalley Loop Trail back down, Reminiscing all the while. It was very nice. Interesting interpretive history signs on the Dalley Loop – maybe pick up the special guide book and start with that. We didn’t know about it until we happened upon it. If there was a trail with views of the reservoir, we didn’t find it, but that would have been nice. Maybe Hedgehog > Ricker? We were too lazy to bring our kayaks on this vacation, but I'm sure that would've also been nice. Seemed pretty quiet....

Best State Park Campground in Vermont
Aug 2019
Camping on the Waterbury Reservoir is totally amazing. Large sites, beautiful views, lots of hiking trails, nature programs, boating, kayaking, mountain biking, canoeing etc. Very clean restrooms and showers. The added benefit is all the activities available in the area: hiking Mt Mansfield or Camel's Hump, Swimming, Farmer's Markets, Craft Breweries, Craft Ciders. It's a quick trip into Burlington and all the activities happening there as well.

Camping and Hiking
Sep 2019 • Couples
This was our first stay at a Vermont State Park. We were very pleased. We found the park to be well cared for. The bathhouse closet to us was an old one, but the park has spruced it up sometime in recent years and they do a proper cleaning daily. Actually, it seems like the staff is in several times a day to make sure the facilities are clean and stocked. The campsite itself was fairly spacious and well maintained. The campground was very peaceful and quiet. In summary a great camping experience.

The park itself is lovely. It sits on the Waterbury reservoir. There are flower plantings throughout to augment the natural beauty of the woods. There are a number of hiking and mountain biking trails. We cobbled together a several trails for about an 8 mile hike one day and a 5 mile hike mostly on different trails the next day. We enjoyed reading the history placards placed at various points along several of the trails. We particularly enjoyed the Stevenson Brook trail. It is a lovely hike along the brook and not very strenuous. If you go just a bit beyond the Sawmill trail you can see some of the remanents of the old sawmill.

The location of the park makes it a great base if you want to go and hike up the Monroe trail to Camels Hump.

Would love to come back again.

This VT State Park owns my second highest rating for VT State Park AND water body!
Jul 2019
This park is meticulously maintained, a great expanse of state park property, many lovely PRIME campsites, and has extreme turnover during the 'season'!
We had fun there but had some dicey interactions with foreign occupants (Quebecians)....they overwhelm the park for obvious reasons, real American park life without all the hassles Canada requires from them and US!
Great park but avoid it if you can , there are far better VT State Parks well within your reach!

We've camped at Little River twice in the last few years and we really enjoy the camping spots. They are shaded and private. This time we were just day visitors. It's $16 to get in the park which is quite expensive. Varied mix of trails available. We hiked the Stevenson Trail that inclines next to the stream. It's a pretty walk through the woods that intermittently crosses bridges. Our baby had a fun time watching the water rush by, so it's good for kids!

Very clean camping site. Peaceful and a great location. Some of the restrooms could use some updates. The staff was kind and they had terrific firewood and fire starters on hand.

A beautiful setting. Well managed and clean, too.

Little River State Park, beyond the Waterbury Dam, is a wonderful, wooded State Park & campground on the gorgeous and peaceful Waterbury Reservoir.

Do some boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, canoeing or just go for a long swim. It's just beautiful. And privacy abounds on the shores! ;-) The campground is great for family events and has all the amenities you would need for a good camping trip.

Little River gets Five Loons in my book.
Sep 2018 • Solo
Little River is my fave Vermont State park. The staff is helpful and professional. The facilities were clean. Recommend you take the reservoir tour with the Park Naturalist, Brian, and get the rich natural history and ecology of the area. The reservoir is prime recreation for paddlers and excellent for swimming. At night you can listen to the loons and the owls. The chipmunks seemed thuggish however, and the "active bear" they advertise is hypothetical, small issues that Jessica promised to correct. Overall, Little River is the jewel in the navel of the Vermont park system, and earns the coveted Five Loons.

Spent a night in the Campground
Oct 2018 • Couples
Passing through town on very busy Sunday in Waterbury ! We decided to grab a spot to spend the night and go back into town the next day. You drive down a hard packed dirt road for a couple of miles then it’s a asphalt road. Very nice people greeted us at the check in. We past up 2 signs that said “No Vacancy” but decided to ask anyway and they had 1 spot open ! It’s deep down in tall trees and the interior roads in “ A” area were pretty narrow for Big RV’s. The Bathrooms/Showers were nice and clean and worked well. Showers takes quarters. Lots of people with Kayaks on vehicles so it must be popular. They have Cabins and Sites with Lean-To’s scattered throughout the Camping Sites. Internet is weak but we managed ok. Their website will give you more particulars on everything else.
