The Skinner Barn is a beautifully restored historic dairy barn built in 1891 by the Daniel Skinner family. Of classic post and beam construction, it offers a special environment for educational classes, cultural events, parties, and receptions. Flanked by the majestic Northfield Ridge to its east and the mountains that host the Sugarbush and Mad River Glen ski areas to its west, The Skinner Barn offers a quintessential Vermont setting. The upper floor of The Skinner Barn has been restored with loving attention keeping the historical character of the structure intact. This open space, originally designed for hay storage, is now used as an assembly space for a wide range of functions from weddings & rehearsal dinners to theater camps, theater productions, dances and cabaret performances.

The latest show (The Pirates of Penzance) was quite enjoyable. It's always a treat to see how the beautiful barn transforms into a theater. A lot of talent was showcased again this season. It's easy to suspend disbelief and just get caught up in these intimate setting performances.

The Victorian light opera (read musical) the Pirates of Penzance is playing this 2016 Summer season. This is the 14th season of professional theater in the Mad River Valley. The Pirates is well directed, a fun producition and truly amusing. It is amazing to have a live theater of superlative quality here in the remote distant planet of Vermont. Both... More

I attended a wedding here and was truly surprised at how comfortable a "barn" wedding could be. The barn itself feels very rustic and authentic however the kitchen, bathrooms etc........are all modern. The property is stunning, parking is plentiful and location not far from town. If you're looking to have a barn style wedding but require modern amenities, this is... More

We attended a performance of "Pete 'N Keely." Both actors provided energetic and polished performances. This wasn't Broadway, but it was fun, entertaining, and of a higher scale than one might anticipate in an old barn (beautifully restored on gorgeous grounds) on a dirt road. The entire audience, including the four of us who attended together, had a good time.... More

We attended a wedding there, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. The ceremony took place on a hill looking up at rolling mountains. The barn itself had a rustic but elegant feel. The food was pretty good, but the wait staff was less than ideal. Specifically, one of the bar tenders seemed really annoyed by our presence there. Overall it... More

My husband and I were married here in June and we cannot recommend the Skinner Barn enough. The barn has been meticulously redone by the owner, Peter, and the surrounding area is breathtaking. Peter is very professinoal and responsive, very easy to work with. He was readily available throughout the year and a half we planned our wedding, and was... More

Went to see Peter Boynton's version of " Violet" recently here and was very impressed. The cast was great, talented singers esp the younger version of vi. The use of your own imagination was required with the little amount of props the cast had, but it worked! The barn itself is beautifully redone and the grounds well kept. Very happy... More

This summer stock theater (and event venue) is very well done--a "real" barn (red, of course), part of a lovely estate-style farm property owned by actor Peter Boynton, who also is the producer (and much more) of the resident shows. Grounds are well-maintained and very welcoming. The theater setting itself is intimate, but also well-designed with a combination of stadium-style... More

The pristine setting and simple restoration of this quintessential Vermont barn made this the perfect venue for our son and daughter-in-law's wedding. Peter's aesthetic sensibilities and easy manner make the entire experience easy. Although a rainy day created some unwanted stress and disappointment for the bride and groom, the experience was, nevertheless, every bit as beautiful and unique as that... More
