Check the local Valley Reporter paper for E Coli levels (which are usually below limits) to see where the best swim holes are. Please be respectful of the dogs allowed vs no dogs policy at each location. Not all swim holes allow canines so best to check before you go. The river is quite beautiful and great for swimming or... I thought local swimming holes were a long lost part of my youth but the Mad River proved me wrong. Absolutely no commercialism and quiet deep spots between Warren and Middlesex VT along the Mad River make this valley special. Some of the holes have grass beaches others afford huge boulders . Parking is usually hidden behind dikes or berms.

While touring along Vermont Scenic Highway 100, had beautiful views of the Mad River. It was shallow in many area this Sept. but the rocky River bed was nice. As this River winds through this valley in the Green Mountains, it at an important part the Beauty of this scenic Vermont route.

I love the Mad River--so cool and clean and pretty colors. There are so many fantastic swimming holes and the river is easily accessible. It lifts my spirits being close to this river--at all times of the year--so beautiful!

No matter the season, go and see the Mad River. Stop at the Laureau family swimming hole or go to the nudie beach. Then again go east and stop at the other water access and swimming spots. Whether you walk along the sides using the Valley Walking Trails, drive, ride, swim, fish, or get a chance to paddle it. See... More

Running through the Mad River Valley is the backwards-flowing Mad River, which attracts visitors for its beauty and all that it offers. In the summer, people come for afternoon dips in its many swimming holes. In the spring, white water canoeists and kayakers take on river, which running fast with melting mountain snows provides an adventure for all abilities. The... More

Awe-inspiring views at every turn of the road. Be sure to pack cool weather clothing, even in summer. Locally maintained trails make this area like your own back yard.
