Pretty much the quintessential small town adventure with a covered bridge and all. Parking is free and right next to river. Lots of families and local kids found here on a hot day. Highly recommend this place with local ice cream and other specialty shops...More

The river winds around the area but we saw the Waitsfield portion. There is a covered bridge from the 1800's and how wonderful to watch some kids jumping off it into the river below.

Very pretty, windy with some fly fishermen around. A lot shallower than expected, maybe because we saw it mid June.

Mad River runs through the Sugarbush Valley to Moretown, where it meets the Winooski river. It offers many opportunities for a fishing, canoeing, hiking, swimming, picnicking, or just a lazy day watching the river flow by.

There are so many wonderful shopping places here. We're going up to Vermont tomorrow (it's a 225 mile ride) to look for unique gifts for friends for Christmas. It is well worth the ride...very scenic, and great places to eat.

Check the local Valley Reporter paper for E Coli levels (which are usually below limits) to see where the best swim holes are. Please be respectful of the dogs allowed vs no dogs policy at each location. Not all swim holes allow canines so best...More
