This area has not changed much over the past 40 plus years, as they don't want to!! Friendly staff and patrons. Uphill capacity is low, but this guarantees uncrowded conditions. Had a great time, and significant challenge as well!

Husband and I took ski lessons here by OB-1 (AKA - Bob). He was great! Why we chose Mad River over SugarBush: From extensive research, Mad River seemed to be where the locals skiied. SugarBush seemed to target more tourist. This isn't a bad thing,...More

Wonderful ski day with small crowds and no real lift lines during February break. I did not know this could be true. The mountain is a real gem and offers interesting terrain for all levels. Sadly, rain and warm temperatures cut our ski days short,...More

Known for excellent skiing, this is a nice place to have a good hike with elevation gain. It is not a true hiking trail, but it still provides very nice views of the Fall colors. You can take one of the service roads/trails from the...More

This is a true grassroots ski area. There is a major sense of community and it lacks the frills of the big ski mountains, but that is the charm here. It IS more challenging terrain with no 2 runs (even on the same trail) the...More

We visited Mad River Glen to do a hike to the top of the ski mountain. The hike was steep and difficult for me, but I am a beginner. My friends made it all the way to the top and had an excellent times. We...More

The difficulty level keeps a lot of yahoos out. Great trails, but you have to be comfortable with steepness and speed. Not for beginners, not even nervous intermediates. Great layout to the place, too.

"Ski It If You Can!" This is THE New England mountain for purist skiers; boarders need not show up, you're not welcome here! I love taking first timers here; one look at the old lodge, the single and double chair lifts and they're immediately thinking...More
