My boyfriend and I visited Stowe to ski around NYE. We were aware of the expensive price we had to pay for both lift tickets and rentals. However, due to paying such a high price we figures the trails would be better maintained. We were...More

Came back to one of my favorite resorts in the country and sat down at the hourglass bar and was instantly greeted by Chris, Buck and Tyler. In my experience, it is always a rare and special feeling when employees at a restaurant remember your...More

Great skiing. The holiday week can get very busy and the trails do get a bit crowded but as long as the three main lifts are operating (Sunny Spruce Quad, Gondola, and Fourrunner Quad) then the crowds stay at an acceptable level. Once one of...More

It was my first experience in the East coast for skiing. I have been to the West coast area including Vail, Deer Valley and Whistler (Canada). Stowe Mountain Resort is on the smaller side with some shops and restaurants. There is a beautiful ice skating...More

If you can afford to stay in this wonderful resort, you should. Look nowhere. Has great skating rinks, beginners skiing place and several shops for little something as memories.

I don't know for sure but since it is a ski resort type of an area I would think the gondola would still be running.

We're thinking of traveling to Stowe for Labor Day weekend and are considering staying at the Stowe Mountain Resort. Can you tell me whether the alpine slide and gondola are within walking distance from the hotel? Also, I've seen comments about construction at the resort. Is that still ongoing and is it intrusive? Thanks!

Hi Lisa - No, the alpine slide and gondola aren't walking distance. They're a few miles up Rt. 108 (on the same road as the Mt. Road Resort, but at least ~3 miles north). It's a short drive or taxi though. :) Not sure about the construction, but perhaps others on this board can comment. Personally, I like the Golden Eagle better than the Mtn. Road Resort - bigger grounds, nicer indoor pool, and maybe a little cheaper. Enjoy!

New England Winter/Christmas Holiday (6 Replies)
Hi, I'm after some expert advice, so if any of you guys can help me I would be extremely grateful! My wife, two children (14 and 8) and I are planning a trip from the UK to New York and New England over Christmas. The plan is to go to New York first (around 21st Dec) to experience Christmas there and then leave for New England probably on Boxing Day. We've been to North Conway a couple of times and love the town, snowboarding, snow tubing and snow mobiling (a family favourite!)....More

I think you would enjoy Manchester VT for the holiday. The town decks out for Christmas, and has those quaint New England houses. In town or within a very short drive you can ski [down hill and cross country], skate, snowshoe, snow mobile and go sledding. Manchester is a very walk able town, with plenty of outlets as well as small local shops. Hildene [the home of Lincoln's son Robert Todd Lincoln] is decorated for season and gives candle light tours. If you like the idea of staying in a...More
