We took a one hour class a few weeks ago with Brandon and he was amazing. In fact we returned to Manchester this time so we could take another class. This time it was with Tom. We did a two hour class this time, which included going on a boat to fish. We might have not caught anything but certainly enjoyable. Can't wait to return!

My Husband and i though ORVIS book our fly fishing school at Glendorn, our room was fantastic,we stayed in a Cabin, the food amazing, inspired i think by the breathtaking grounds,we met with our instructor, the next morning and it was a joy to be with someone who loved fishing as much as myself, the waters at Glendorn provide's the prospective angler with a diversity of stream and pond enviroments. Also, there is a diversity of fish type, both coldwater and warm water species. After "class" we enjoyed many of the ohter activites, such as trap and skeet shooting, massage, tennis and a dip in the pool. for great fishing, wonderful staff and amazing amenites, you must visit this place

My husband and I attended the 2-day fly fishing course May 6-8, 2016. I have no experience fly fishing, and he has only been one time for 4 hours with an Orvis-Endorsed guide in S.E. Oklahoma. This class was outstanding in every way - the staff (Truel and Forest), the indoor classroom, the practice areas, the course schedule, the equipment provided for instruction, even the lunch that was provided both days. In addition, the sales staff at the Orvis store were knowledgeable and went out of the way to be helpful with our post-course equipment purchases. Also, our instructors were both kind enough to help us choose the best equipment for our specific needs. Our entire experience was A+++. We are looking forward to attending additional classes in the near future. Check out all their class offerings on the Orvis website. This school is a Class Act!

We spent half a day trying to catch some fish, beginning of august, but there were not any.
We have been told by the Orvis people from the school with on us on the boat, that at that time of the year there are only fishes at the sunrise and sunset, and that we should have been told...It was 10 am.
When we finished and had to pay. We told the boss about how it was, he did not even looked at me...

I have several fly rods, take them out on occasion and quickly put them away and revert back to my spin fishing gear. I've always liked the idea of fly fishing, and love catching trout. But I just couldn't get the whole fly rod thing. For my anniversary my wife surprised me with a 2 day fly fishing school at Orvis in Vermont. What a great experience. We had a pretty small class, so we had personal attention form the instructors for both days. I really enjoyed the class set up, rotating from class room slides and video analysis of our casting techniques, to the casting pond. I thought the slides on "matching the hatch" were especially helpful, as this always confused me. This portion of our training was reinforced on the river, where we picked up rocks to see what was on the underside ready to hatch and become trout dinner.
All in all a great experience. After the school we went up to the Connecticut Lakes where I was able to put my new found casting skills to work on "fly fishing only" ponds that I previously could only admire. 2 days - way outside my comfort zone - and now a fly fisherman and a great experience at Orvis in Manchester Vermont.

Orvis needs to accommodate the novice fly fishermen that visit. We wanted to rent equipment....not readily available. Everyone was so nice in the entire property, awesome retail products available - very cool stop on this trip

Taking the Orvis 2 day fly fishing school was the best thing i have done in a while.
Really learned a ton about the philosophy of fly fishing (e.g. the hatches, reading the water, fish handling and equipment selection.
My instructor Ben was wise well beyond his 22 years! Like a big Yoda of fly fishing trapped in a young mans body! He made it fun and was just the right amount of fun mixed in with teaching a very technique-oriented action (fly casting) to guys from different back grounds and different skill sets.

Had the luxury of having a small class, so lots of personalized attention from the instructors. They staff it so there are no more than 4 students per instructor. We had 3 different instructors over 2 days, but all were excellent. The didactic sessions are useful, but the best part is the personalized attention during practice sessions at their casting ponds. The instructors teach to the level of proficiency of each student (so beginners work on basic techniques and those with prior experience work on more advanced skills). The video tape session was really helpful, so each student can see what their fly casts actually look like. Lunch was tasty. The tour of the fly rod manufacturing shop was fascinating. The field trip to the Battenkill was anticlimactic, as the water level was pretty low and the fishing difficult; also, the instructor didn't have a lot of time to spend with all of us given the fact we were fairly spread out on that segment of the river. They give you a copy of Tom Rosenbauer's Beginning Fly Fishing book at graduation, so don't buy that one in advance. All in all, an excellent experience that will help improve my casting technique.

On a whim we decided to book a fly fishing 2 hour class. Neither my husband or I had ever down it before. It was an amazing experience and we may take up fly fishing now. Our instructor Brendan was awesome! We had time to learn how to cast your rod from shore and then had the opportunity to go out on a book that practice and catch a fish. Just awesome!!! Highly recommend

Beware, you might get hooked. Kyle is a pro. The Zen Master of fly fishing. Watch him cast a few times and you will say, "I want to do that." In a one hour lesson, he teaches the basics of casting. Plus a few tricks. Great feedback. Great encouragement. Super convenient location at the Orvis pond. Kids fed trout and watched. I'll return for a half day lesson next Spring.
