After 25 years of tour service, we are changing to a travel consultation business. We will act as a private emissary to travelers and hotels. Other travel related services will include: *suggesting things to do and area restaraunts *step-on service for bus groups *arranging hiking guides *presenting speaking engagements about our area *providing guided tours in the privacy of your vehicle Please email for information, requests or reservations. Although we are closed for the winter season, we will be responding to emails.

We had two glorious days in Manchester and the surrounding areas. Our highlight Thursday was a personal tour with Sharon on Backyard Discovery.
I would guess we traveled 30 miles on all kinds of roads and into hamlets full of National history on a two hour and more adventure. Sharon is delightful and has a wealth of local history and trivia that left
us feeling almost like a Vermonter !
We would highly recommend Backyard Discovery
as a part of your visit on any Vermont get-away.

Thank You for your comment!! Little did we know what was in store for the next year!! We were closed for 1 1/2 years but are now back up and running on a limited schedule ! Thanks again!

I called Sharon in the middle of this Covid nightmare. She is unable to give us a tour because of the small seating in her van. That being said knowing that I am not even going to be a paying client of hers she was so gracious. She spoke to me personally about how much she loves the area and sent me a detailed email of places we may want to see based on what I told her we might like to do. I had more questions for her and she emailed me back with a list of restaurants and other destinations. She is so professional and passionate about her job. I am only sorry she won’t be there when we are but I urge anyone to use her service she is top notch.

My husband and I were visiting Vermont, and it was actually prior to the tourist season opening. I called Backroad Discovery Tours to see if they were open. A very friendly lady responded that they had not opened yet, BUT, she spent quite a bit of time talking to me on the phone and making specific recommendations for places to see that were near where we were staying. She went 'above and beyond' if you ask me. Obviously, the owners are kind and caring people - they love Vermont and want people to experience their state. Based on this experience, AND the places that we were able to go to thanks to their recommendations. I would HIGHLY recommend this business.

My sister and I are thoroughly pleased we took this tour on October 24th, 2021. Although the leaves were past their peak color, we found with all the interesting stops along the way, including the marble quarry - now a swimming hole in the summer, a one room school house, a covered bridge and the Sugar Shack, where we could see some modern equipment for processing the water out of maple sap during the syrup making process, take a bathroom break, if needed, and purchase a few treasures to take home, it no longer mattered to us about the foliage. Dick, our tour guide, a long time resident of Vermont, was very interesting and personable while sharing with us his vast knowledge of history and fun facts about the area. His wife Sharon, responded promptly to my initial email inquiring about the tour, was more than helpful in assisting me when making our reservation and even suggested some restaurants in the area we might enjoy. We highly recommend this tour!

Four of us went on the 3 hour tour with Dick, the tour guide is fantastic! He is 7th generation Vermont and so knowledgeable about the area. He also incorporated historical information and facts about the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. I highly recommend going on the tour when you first arrive in Manchester.

We were a group of 7 friends getting together in Vermont and contacted Discovery for a fall tour. The business owner was very flexible and accommodating as our plans changed several times! She even gave us tips for things to do and see outside the tour. Dick, our tour guided was very knowledgeable and a proud Vermonter. We enjoyed the tour and the ideas for things to do after the tour.

I went on the Summer Sampler and it was fantastic! It was their first tour out for the 2021 season. Dick, the tour guide, is wonderful. He gives a lot of interesting background along they way that you would not learn otherwise. All of the stops were fun and I will probably do it again.

Our guide Dick was super informative and gave us a lot of history of the area. Gave us ample time at all stops to take pics and walk around. We spent the rest of the day in Manchester at Dick’s recommendation. Great town.

Our family of 4 included 2 kids ages 7 and 10 . We loved it. The tour gave us a great overview of Manchester and Vermont. It was informative but not boring at all. We got to see things we would have never seen on our own and cherish. My kids said it was their favorite thing we did in Vermont and we even went to Ben & Jerry's so that says a lot. We came back with some maple syrup from one of our stops and a great picture of the Alpaca nose to nose with our 7 year old. You have to take this tour!!

My husband and I decided to spend about 2 weeks exploring Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire. Back Road Discovery jeep tour was definitely the highlight of our whole trip! My husband and I still talk about it. You know how you really enjoy something and don't go back for years, and then you go back and it's quite a let down? (I had taken this tour about 8 years ago). Well this was even better than I remembered! Even though it was my second time, it was like I had never been before. The jeep was very comfortable and Sharon, our guide, managed to share some new information and it was like a new experience. We loved how she was able to answer every question we had. There is a little town, Dorset, that we went through. If you were just traveling, you would never appreciate all the quaint detail and history of this town. I never though a town could be beautiful and fascinating. And of course, the alpaca farm did not disappoint!
Sharon is a wonderful guide who enjoys what she does and has a very approachable way about her. There was never an awkward "tour guide" moment. She is so much more than a tour guide.

Yes, it worked for us with my elderly mother! Sharon is very helpful and accommodating with modifications to make the experience for those who may not be too mobile. Enjoy!!!
