Northshire is a fantasy bookstore come to life. It is a wonderful place to get lost while others shop at the "outlet" stores. You can spend time wandering through the books, browsing and reading, exploring the interesting assortment of gift/non-book items or passing the time reading in the wonderful cafe.

So much fun! This is a great place for browsing and buying! With staff recommendations and short notes about many books you will find much to tempt you. Do some gift shopping if you can't resist. And support this great store - and your own local bookstore. They offer so much more than an online experience ever could! The staff... More

Manchester, Vermont boasts one of the best independent bookstore in the country. Personnel are knowledgable, friendly and happy to help. The store is large and has overtype of book available from new fiction and non-fiction to older title. It also has a large area of children books and novel toys. Often there is a reading from a contemporary author in... More

For book lovers and fans of independent bookstores, this store is a gem. We were in Manchester for other reasons, but it's almost worth the 2 hour drive we had just to spend time here. It's large, with a huge selection and a nice cafe.

If you are a bibliophile then this store is an ideal place to while away the time. Excellent choice of books , gifts and stationery. A real find and well worth a visit. Knowledgable staff who were helpful and friendly. A must visit whilst in Manchester

Northshire is a welcome throwback in this online age -- a well stocked store with helpful staff and a wide range of merchandise including good local travel books. They also offer an extensive selection of used books -- helpful for extra reading while on holiday.

Ample parking behind the store (not always the case in this poorly designed, traffic circle driven, outlet fueled downtown), this store is the bookstore version of the Vermont Country Store. Spacious and well-organized, there is something here for everyone, including a great street level cafe.

We thought we would visit based upon the reviews we had read plus, we love a good bookstore. We were pushed and shoved and elbowed throughout the store and that was mostly by the staff trying to get to a shelf or a specific book for a patron that had sought assistance. Not a word of "excuse me" or "sorry".... More

Dear CTTravelers_too, I am very sorry that your experience at my store was disappointing. Obviously we aspire to much higher standards. We will use your comments as a learning experience for our staff and will hopefully do better in the future. Thank you for coming and for making independent bookstores a part of your travels. I hope you enjoyed VT.... More

Northshire is a must visit (along with Orvis and Eileen Fisher) while in Manchester. Even a Kindle fan will love this book shop. History, fiction, children's books - they are all there....the service staff is excellent and the store is pet friendly!

Rated as one of the best book stores in all of New England for good reasons: the staff is knowledgable and the book selection especially kids' books and recent publications is simply terrific. They have a nice cafe with places for working on your computer upstairs. (Wi-fi is available, naturally!). This is a great store which deserves your business!
