- Dan MStonington, Connecticut22 contributionsA place to find that book you didn't know you had to haveI generally try and swing by the local bookstore in any town I visit (if there is one), and I have to say that Northshire Bookstore is one of the best out there. Don't let the building exterior deceive you. This a large store with room after room of shelves and an expansive variety of titles. Will you find everything? No. But they clearly curate their title selection with care. What they do have is thoughtful and smart and shows someone understands the subject matter. I found a recent book I wanted to buy, but my local bookstore doesn't carry; a book that I meant to buy, but forgot about; and a book I never knew existed, but was thrilled to discover. Forget the online algorithms, this place reminds you how much fun it is to poke around a store and be surprised.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 17, 2024

There are cute toys and fun gifts if you are looking to bring back souvies. My kids love the book sections because there are entire bookcases of graphic novels. Everyone can find a great book here!Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 26, 2024

We took our 2 year old to this bookstore on a cold blustery day while her parents skied. The 5th floor children's section has toys and so many books we did not know where to start. We found plenty to occupy us for a few hours. We made some purchases which both grandchildren loved. The staff was very helpful. There is a cafe also. Next time we will check out the adult floors.

This quaint little New England bookstore is just perfect. It is always exciting to check it out when we are in the town of Manchester. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They have little areas where you can sit down and read a bit. There is even a children's section upstairs. We always make a point to come here when we are passing through. There is a parking lot tucked away past Charlie's Coffee House, north on Bonnet street if you can't find roadside parking. You can even charge an EV up in that lot.

Firstly, I would like to say that this is a beautiful bookstore. It makes me sad that the staff aren't friendly because it has such potential. I felt this way in highschool and now as a mother, bringing my child in to explore books there. The level of snootiness is unprecedented at Northshire. As much as I want to I support local bookstores, I would much rather give my money to friendlier more welcoming establishments.

Fantastic collection of both new and used books. The history, music, art , and biography sections were just as well curated as the fiction and general interest books. The children’s area is on the top floor, retaining the lower floor for adult browsing. Excellent suggestions as well!

I was asked by 4 different employees if I needed any help with anything. One person asked me twice. I like to browse a bookstore and drink my coffee. I shouldn't feel rushed and feel like a stockboy is going to jump out of every corner.

I would say that one of the reasons we most look forward to visiting Manchester is to go to the Northshire Bookstore. It has something for everyone there and is well-organized with reading suggestions from employees. There are even VT gifts and crafts for those who are not bibliophiles.

Have been searching for the perfect bookstore for years. No need to look any further. Not just that it is huge but that there are recommendations all over the shelves and people who write the recommendations all over the floor ready to help. Wonderful booksellers. Astounding selection. Almost enough places to sit.
