We love, love, love the Umbrella Bar. On a chilly day there is nothing better for a quick warm-up and re-charge. On a sunny day it's a perfect location to soak up the sun. Service is great. Bartenders are super-friendly.

I always think of lemonade when I see the umbrella bars, and not because of their yellow umbrellas. When Hurricane Irene hit Killington, the resulting flood actually pushed a base lodge off it's foundation, and the building was condemned. With only a short time before ski season started, bringing hordes of thirsty skiers, Killington put put the "umbrella bars", which are large glass enclosures with yellow canvas roofs. They have proven to be one of the most popular locations on the mountain.
During the cold weather, the glass walls are closed and the umbrella roofs are deployed. Heaters inside the structures keep patrons toasty. As the weather warms, the glass walls are opened, and finally the umbrellas are withdrawn to help everyone work on their tan. The location at the base of the Superstar trail is awesome -- not only do you have a great view of sliders navigating a challenging trail, it's also a very easy place to stop for a quick drink or bathroom break, without feeling like you have to sit for a while.
The central location also makes the umbrella bars a great meeting spot. They're easy to find, and small enough that it's easy to find the person you're looking for. And if you're trying to avoid someone (e.g. your crazy ex-girlfriend), you can see through the glass walls without removing your skis, thus ensuring a rapid escape.

We visited Killington on July 30th and stopped for a drink at the Umbrella Bar after a concert at Snowshed. Located at the main base lodge near the gondola to the peak, it has beautiful views up the mountain and nice live music. The roof lifts off for ventilation, which must be pretty cool and would have been even better as it was pretty hot inside while the sun was beating on it. It was obvious that the locals go there along with tourists.

Nothing says Spring like having a drink at the umbrella bar while watching top to bottom skiing of people wearing shorts. The drink menu for wines is limited which is always my dismay, but they make up for it in scenery. This is a number one spot to enjoy spring skiing.

Our favorite bar to end the day. It is right at the base of K1 at Killing Mountain. Small enclosed umbrella bar packed with great energy. Grab a drink and watch riders bomb down superstar. Bar tenders are awesome and quick to make their rounds. Wayne is the man and is always a pleasure to see! It is a must to check out if your at Killington. PS get a Bloody Mary! They are killer!!
