Coworkers have been recommending kayaking the Lamoille for years and we finally did it! On 7/3 I emailed Bert's Boats to ask for pricing and availability for 7/5. "Bert" (aka Ken) responded within a few hours with some nicely flexible options. I was very nervous as we had only kayaked a few times on vacation and I had not ever managed my own boat (we used a tandem on other tours on vacations). I was also concerned about our lack of experience in general. There had been a lot of rain and I wanted to make sure that an inexperienced boater could handle the boats in the higher than normal water level. I shared my concerns with Ken who answered all of my questions quickly and professionally. We made our reservation on 7/4 and had a wonderful day on 7/5. Bert's Boats outpost was easy to find and offers off-road parking. The "outhouse" was a quite rudimentary but it did the trick. Ken outfitted us with personal flotation devices and provided transportation (van) to the launch site. At the launch site he provided a very short on-land demonstration of how to paddle, matched us to our boats and paddles, and helped us to get everything adjusted and ready to go. With a wave and an instruction to "stay in the middle", he plunked us in the river and we were good to go. As I mentioned, there had been some recent rain and the river was higher than normal on the day we went, but the current was still quite lazy and we got the hang of managing our boats very quickly. The 1.5 hour journey back to the outpost was a great introductory experience to kayaking and overall I was pleased with our choice to go with Bert's Boats. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much we decided to buy kayaks and we have been kayaking the rivers and ponds of Vermont for the last half of the summer!

This is my second time reviewing Bert's Boats. This time we had four people in our group; our two guests needed rentals and all four of us needed transport to the put-in. I conversed with Bert/Ken through email and by phone a few days in advance and everything was ready when we arrived. I chose Bert's Boats this time over other companies because (1) our friends are new to kayaking and I like Bert's short but effective paddling demonstration -- provided on land (2) I like that the get out spot (Bert's Outpost) is before the fast water near the 108 bridge - easier get out spot for those new to paddling (3) I just really like how friendly and knowledgeable Bert/Ken is. You can ask him any paddling question. He is so nice and really knows his stuff. Anyway, we had an awesome time as usual. Do paddle the Lamoille. It is great fun. Also wanted to mention that I like the potty upgrade at the outpost :)

Bert's Boats is awesome. We parked our car at the finish location of the canoe trip. We were then picked up by a shuttle and taken to the starting point. This way once we completed our trip we would have our car waiting for us at our convenience. It was a relaxing trip down the river. Bert's is affordable, professional, and even allowed my dog to canoe along with us. Very important when looking for pet friendly activities.

We passed Bert's place on our way to the Lamoille River Rail Trail. Sad to report there was a note saying Bert decided to retire. Wishing him and family the best!

We've been coming to VT for the past 17 years and have rented canoes quite often. While always satisfied with the other place, I saw a flyer for Bert's and we decided to give hime a try. Let's just say we'll be using Bert's from now on. He is super knowledgable and so easy to deal with. He was very responsive and did everything possible to accommodate us. His canoes were in great shape, clean and comfortable - a noticeable step up from the last few we've been in. Highly recommend !

I would highly recommend Bert's Boat. Pat, our guide, was the best. His passion for the outdoors is contagious. He took us on a bit of a detour so he can show us ducks and lily pads. He was very thoughtful to provide opportunities for us to take pictures. We had a great time!

I am from NJ but my sister lives close by. My other sister was up with her grandson and we all went out with the kayaks and one canoe. What a great time!!!!! And the gentleman who runs it is very nice and very informative. I will definitely do it again. I highly recommend this.

We were lucky to find Bert's Boats during our foliage trip to Vermont. He let us pick the time, met us there, and explained all we needed to know about canoeing. He drove us to the starting point about 4 miles away. We canoed down the river, enjoying the beautiful foliage along the way. It was so peaceful and we were the only boaters in the water. He met us at the end to help us get out of the canoes! We highly recommend checking out Bert's Boats!

Bert took 5 of us upriver-- Gave those of us who hadn't kayaked the river before some pointers. Bert uses quality boats-- they're used but are high quality. We had a 3-hour paddle. He's flexible and accommodating re: timing, duration of trip, etc.
Highly recommend.
Highly recommend.

My sister and I rented kayaks from Berts boats to kayak down the Lamoille. Bert was great, easily accessible to set up a meet time and very clear about where to meet. I told Bert I wanted a 2 hour boat trip. He drove us to a spot on the river that would take us 2 hours to paddle back. He gave great instructions on how to kayak and what to expect on the river. It was a beautiful fall day and the river was beautiful. I hope to go again in the future. I highly recommend.
