Chamber of commerce recommended we visit this on a trip to Brattleboro, Vt. Lots of delicious cheese to sample as well as jams, mustards, chutney.... Loved the Maple pumpkin butter spread and the Apple pie jam. Also the Apple cider cheddar was great. Friendly staff and you can watch cheese being made. A fun, delicious visit.

Love everything about this place. Excellent location on the way to and from skiing at Stratton. Love the staff - friendly, knowledgable and seems truly happy to work there. And then there is the cheese, from the good old predictable cheddar of all ages to some of the more interesting cheeses from various cheesemaking artisans. Many of the cheeses are highly sophisticated and complex (well, not the cheeses themselves, but the taste they appeal to). We recently bought some for a dinner back home with family members visiting from France. To quote the French folk - "no reason to buy french cheese any more if this is made in VT." Take picture of the label/wrapper as it's not easy to remember what you bought last time. Some cheeses are truly a "limited edition", so don't be surprised if you have to do another sampling round. The only downside is if you are price sensitive, make sure you know look at the prices or you can blow your cheese budget in no time...

You can view cheese-making in process here, as well as an informative video. However, their delicious cheese cannot be purchased at this location, but instead at the nearby Grafton Village Market, the Brattleboro Co-Op, Brattleboro's "Grafton Village Cheese" shop and several other local outlets -- as well as on line, thank goodness! Especially love their aged cheddar and Bismark!

Grafton Village Cheese Company should show a little more respect for their customers and potential customers. We rely on google and websites to know if you’re open. We traveled 45 minutes each way. Google said you were open. When we arrived you were closed. The Saturday after Thanksgiving, when tourists like me want to explore and support small business, at least have the common courtesy to adjust your google settings. It takes only a half a minute.

This is an inspiring shop but everything is super expensive. It’s a great place to taste many of their cheeses but I would recommend buying them in your nearest Stop and Shop or Wholefoods. It’s the same with all the other products they sell there. I saw a tube of salami priced at $24!

Their cheese is very good, but their prices are very high. We bought 4-year-old cheddar, and on our way back to CT, we stopped at a wine and cheese store where the exact same Grafton Village 4-year-old cheddar was selling for 40% less than the Grafton Village store. (The 40% is off their "original price" which was "marked down," giving the appearance of a special price.) Lesson learned: never buy GV cheese at the VT stores, because they obviously take advantage of the tourists. They distribute to other stores in New England (including Stop and Shop). Find it there and pay a reasonable price.

I am a big-big-big lover of cheese. I do love the cheeses that Grafton Village Cheese has to offer. I, however, was *only* mildly disappointed that... I had already tried 90%+ of the cheeses that are available. I expected that there would potentially be some more specialty items, but there was really nothing that I could not get at various cheese shops local to me, or even Whole Foods' cheese department. I only visited the retail store as it was about a 20 second walk, right across the street, from one of the guest houses of the Grafton Inn (which is where I was staying). The staff was friendly and seemed enthusiastic that I was already familiar with the cheese. One thing that I loved was that they had 4oz wax-covered blocks of cheese. Perfect to share and not too much (I had only seen this size there in Vermont at the Brattleboro Food Co-op prior to seeing it at the retail store). I personally think the prices are reasonable (though I pay the same amount anywhere local to me in RI); I also found the selection of cheese to be less expensive at the Co-op (to the tune of more than $2 for an 8oz block or wheel). I did leave with some of the Garlic (this one is increasingly more difficult for me to find) and the Sage (one of the only ones I'd not tried). Delicious! They also had maple candies (though made with corn syrup and whatnot... why not just maple syrup!? It's Vermont!), microbrews in a fridge, a selection of Vermont Creamery cheeses, jams, etc. As a lover of their cheeses, I'm glad I stopped in (how could I not? it was so close, I could see it from my window!), but I would probably not go out of my way to visit the Grafton retail store again. If I was in the area, absolutely! Delicious cheese and fun to see, but if you are experienced with the cheeses, you may feel slightly disappointed in the variety.

Much like sampling wine at wineries, this place (along with many others) offers tastings of their cheeses in a peaceful farm setting. The cheeses were all excellent ranging from maple smoked and garlic cheddar to cheddars that have been aged up to 6 years. If you have the time and find yourself in the area I highly recommend stopping in. The staff wasn't exactly the friendliest, though, but I guess they didn't need to be since the cheese is already laid out for tastings. Grafton Village Cheese only makes cheddar cheese. The style maintains a moderate certain sharpness and a slightly creamy taste. They also have a small shop of other local food items, such as maple syrup and jams, to purchase.

This was a fun place to stop, you could look through a window and watch the cheese making process. They also had many samples out so you could try things before you bought them. There was a wide selection of cheeses, but also other foods to purchase.

Large variety of cheeses and other gift items. A small viewing area over a place where they make their cheese. The sales people will give you samples of the cheese.
