The Esc4pe room was a fun experience. We have closed permanently. Check out BurlyAxe and Vermont simracer where we are operating some new activities!

For three years in a row, we have brought our students to Esc4pe in Burlington, and every time, with a different group of teens, they rank it as the highlight of their week-long escape room intensive. Mike and his staff are friendly, prepared, and helpful, and the challenges are fun and truly bring the groups together to want to work as a team. I can't wait to go back next year!

Our experienced group of 5 tackled The Gauntlet and "escaped" in 57.5 minutes. The puzzles were good, but some physical objects need replacing, such as the globe, because with overuse they are less clear, and make solving difficult for the wrong reasons. It was one of the few "things to do" in Burlington because of covid-19 restrictions. Fun!

The time escape room was extremely entertaining and puzzles were challenging. The employee who checked us in, Will, who was also the director of operations for Esc4pe and Burly Axe was extremely friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend trying it out.

As first timers, my party of 3 had no idea what was in store for us. What to do? How to go about searching tor clues? Once we started looking at things it became clear: look at everything, consider everything and expect nothing. We had a great time and we were so close to finishing the challenge. HIGHLY recommend this to any group wanting to having fun.

We had a family outing and had a ton of fun. I would highly recommend this business to anyone. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The escape room was difficult but we beat it!! Can't wait to go back again.

after being stuck outside in freezing cold because of lock doors… we had a lot of fun once inside. The rooms are well designed and not too difficult. The employees were kind and efficient with their instructions. Overall a great activity.

We did The Gauntlet on the afternoon of March 18, and enjoyed the premise of the room and some of the interesting features contained therein. We made it to the last puzzle, but alas did not escape. The reason for the poor rating is as follows.

After the time ran out, when we asked for an explanation of what we needed to do in order to complete the last puzzle, the female staffer told us we had missed a key clue and then listed a couple of places where it may have been hidden. However, she couldn't even find the clue when looking in these locations. When we questioned whether the clue had been misplaced, she insisted that there was a checklist and that could not have happened, but she was still unable to show us where the clue was. We asked for an explanation of part of the final puzzle and she said "Sorry, I don't know how to do it, my boss usually does this part."

So, an enjoyable experience ended in a frustrating and slightly unprofessional way. Even if the clue had in fact been in the room and we missed it, the fact that she could not produce it made us question whether the room had been solvable at all and significantly affected our enjoyment of the room.

Thank you for choosing to support our independent Escape Game business. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the Gauntlet! We think our premise is interesting and we're glad you agree :) Great job on getting to the last puzzle, as only 25% of teams manage to get out. We want to apologize for the customer service you experienced. Due to the complexity of our game it is a challenge to train new staff to fully understand the intricacies. Thank you for alerting us this problem with our training procedure. We really value the insights that our customers and reviewers give us. They continually help us to improve the game. We will be changing the training procedure for new staff to make sure that this does not happen to future visitors. Additionally, we are changing the presence of certain clues to be sure that they cannot be easily lost or misplaced. We'd like to invite you to come back and try The Minimalist with your friends and/or family on us, as a token of our gratitude for your taking the time to help us make Esc4pe even better! Please send us a message on TripAdvisor or email us at info@esc4pe.com! Have a great day!

Our group of 10 - including 2 teens, a 9 year old, and a 6 year old - had a blast in the Minimalist room. Many fun puzzles to figure out and everyone was able to help. Staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

Thanks for stopping by! It's interesting to see how the puzzles are looked at by kids and by adults, because they often find different clues faster. We would love to have you back in again if you get the chance!

This was a great way for 6 folks to spend an evening out. Having a group that included sober people (ruling out bars) and Type 1 diabetics (ruling out insane food adventures), this was the perfect way to keep us all entertained, involved, and happy about getting a night out. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, the room itself was surprisingly challenging, and we had a great time.

I've done several escape rooms in different places. We were a group of 5, two of us had a decent amount of escape room experience and 3 were newbies. I thought that overall the escape room was pretty decent, but there were a few times I just thought with a little more attention to detail--the room could've run much smoother. We did the Gauntlet room--and one of the locks didn't seem to work with a key that fit the lock--so we moved on. But eventually, after 3 of us tried each multiple times--10-15 minutes later--the lock opened with that key (it was the lock on the top of the desk in the second room). This seemed like a very unnecessary hitch for an escape room--locks should work smoothly and unlock on the first attempt. There was another lock that had a note by it saying that it often sticks and to try it multiple times--which also seemed to ruin the "flavor" of the experience. More significantly, I felt like whoever was supposed to be observing our progress was likely not paying close attention. When we asked for hints--the hints were mostly general hints for the puzzle rather than specific to the issue we were having--which in one case was due to the mechanic not working correctly the first time. Basically, we knew what to do for a puzzle but after doing it--the code it produced made no sense--so we tried alternative approaches, which also didn't work. The two hints given never addressed the issue we were having and it set us back about 15 minutes before eventually they just gave us a code for a different puzzle, which was confusing. If the observer had been watching--they would've noticed that we solved the puzzle but for some perhaps clerical error, our code didn't work the first time. A simple nudge of saying: try the same thing again would've saved us a lot of time and frustration. Also the last puzzle did not appear to have a clear solution based on the clues (some of the things you had to connect had multiple ways they could connect, based on the map clue)--seeming to require you to test possible solutions, which is just not a very fun thing to do. Overall, this escape room would've been a lot better with a few small things tightened up, and a little closer observation to provide helpful hints in a timely fashion.
