A fun, free thing to do in Waterbury. Our teenage kids loved the architecture of the building. There is an old Indian canoe, great old photos , artwork, & stories. A friendly worker greeted us & gave us more history of the building. An awesome granite statue so in front of the building.

There is a small town feel about the exhibits, which is charming. The old school building is worth seeing just for itself. While we enjoyed the exhibits the high point was the casual history we learned from the volunteers, all had attended the school. Great time at a low price.

Made my first visit to this facility to recently to do genealogy research- located on the second floor. I was able to find resources that were not available online or elsewhere- but the painstaking cataloging of information and most impressive librarian staff I have worked with at a genealogy library set it above other places. While I did not make additional discoveries I was able to deepen my references for those I am researching. My planned 2 hour visit quickly grew to nearly 4 hours with plenty to come back for. The fee of $7.00 seemed reasonable given the proficiency of the staff and the organization of materials they have. Their current policy allowed for me to photograph materials which helped me to research at a much quicker pace than requesting copies for a fee from staff.

It was very informative. It had information about the area and there was an interesting display with all of the musical artists in the area.

Old Spaulding High School given a new lease on life as Vermont History Museum and Library. A great use for Vermont ongoing displays of history, plus a research Library on everything Vermont. Presently on display is the History of Central Vermont Granite Industry and the people who created it, a must-see for history buffs.

Stopped in for an afternoon, and we were the first people to see the new exhibit showcasing the Barre Granite industry. Learned a great deal, and the display was tremendous. Highly recommend it.

This is a local culture spot full of unexpected treasurers. There are a few well made 'Barbie' type doll, a hand made tin violin, genealogy materials, items found depicting ancient times. Very low key, but worth a short visit.

Built in 1892, this Romanesque style brick building served as a high school until 1965 and as a junior high school until 1988. There are three small exhibit galleries here and a fantastic reference library on the second floor.
This facility is an adjunct to the larger museum, located near the state capital building seven miles north in Montpelier.
One admission price covers both locations; $7 for adults, $5 for children and seniors. Group rates and tours are available.
