Yellowstone National Park is a serene gem during the winter months and touring the park with David Schultz, cameras in hand, was a dream. David's knowledge of the park, his expertise as a photographer, and his generous instruction meant that we had ample opportunity to experience and capture the wildlife, landscape and geothermal features that make Yellowstone so unique. I highly recommend this tour.

Thank you for the review and especially, thank you for providing the entertainment watching you try to hand-hold that long telephoto lens! :-) I hope you came away with plenty of great shots and more knowledge of the Park and your camera. Safe travels and happy shooting!

My wife and I just returned from an amazing trip to Yellowstone NP with David Schultz. I've been to Yellowstone several times in warmer weather, but had always wanted to go in the winter. Given my interest in photography, my wife gave me (us) this trip for my 60th birthday.

David, and our snow coach driver Ed, were terrific. They've been doing this for years and have lots of great stories and really know the park - its amazing vistas, wildlife habitats, and history. Spending 4 days with them was a pleasure.

My wife is not really into photography, so she wasn't sure about going on the trip at first. We're so glad that we went together. We saw and experienced so many amazing things that it would have been unfortunate if she had missed them. David and Ed didn't just talk photography all the time, so she never felt left out.

If you love landscape photography, Yellowstone has plenty to offer - snowy scenes, mountains vistas, unique geothermal areas, waterfalls, beautiful forests, etc. If you love wildlife photography, there is so much to see - bison, eagles, foxes, swans, martens, hares, wolves, sheep, elk, coyotes, and more. Of course no photo tour can guarantee sightings of specific animals, but we saw bison, eagles, swans, coyotes, elk and wolves. It was also cool to see all the different animal tracks in the snow and wonder what made them and where they were hiding.

David was very helpful to me, since I am by no means an expert photographer. I've enjoyed photography my whole life, but this was the first "photo tour" on which I have been. David gave me tips on camera settings, looking at a scene from different angles, paying attention to backgrounds and he definitely knows Yellowstone inside and out - he has scoped out great views of all the sites we visited so you almost can't help but take a lot of keepers!

If you follow David's gear list, you shouldn't have a problem with the cold. We were lucky that there was little wind during our visit, but it did get down to -24F one day. Hand/foot warmers were great to have (and are available at the West Yellowstone markets if you forget yours). Also, you don't often stray too far from the relative warmth of the snow coach. Of course many of the restrooms in the park are unheated, so a few minutes of bravery might be required.

I would definitely recommend this photo tour highly. It was something I had dreamed of for years, and the reality was everything I had hoped it would be!

Thanks, David (and Ed)

I've just finished my 10th and final tour for this winter season in Yellowstone. Now time to catch up on things like responding to these much appreciated reviews. It's wonderful to hear from my guest and to get this kind of feedback. It's important for me to know that both you and your "non-photographer" wife both learned from the experience and that she didn't feel left out. It's equally important that you picked up up a few photo tips along the way. Camera settings, the basics anyway, are sometimes the easiest part. Seeing the shot, or anticipating it, can be a little more of a challenge. Especially under conditions found in Yellowstone during the winter. I hope you captured many keepers and I look forward to perhaps crossing paths again one day! Happy editing! David

It was simply the best! Winter in Yellowstone is magical. David knows hidden gems and caters the tour to your needs. Every part of the tour was wonderful! David made it special with his great teaching skills, his kindness, and his humor. I learned how to use my camera in new ways making it easier to capture the moment. I hope to take another tour with David. Don’t hesitate to book a tour with him.

Great to hear from you and thanks for the compliments regarding your tour. Yellowstone can be a bit overwhelming with its beauty, especially in the winter. I've been very fortunate to have had so many opportunities to experience the Park and to share what it's taught me with others. Having the right camera gear and how to dress appropriately are part of those lessons! Thanks for trusting me with your tour and for sharing your comments! Safe travels and happy shooting! David

I booked David's Yellowstone in Winter photo tour to fulfill one of my "bucket list" items. Been looking forward to seeing Yellowstone in wintertime for many years and getting some great shots along the way. With David's help, I was not disappointed.

I have been on various other photo tours in recent years but, none of them were as informative and helpful as David's. I learned so much more about how to use my camera from David than from all other photo trips I have participated in, combined. He is an excellent teacher and I feel much more confident than ever with getting that perfect shot.

As for composition, he taught me some things to look for in a scene that
I most likely would not have realized on my own. Thanks to his coaching, I ended up with some really nice photos from this tour.

His personal nature and sense of humor put us at ease from the first day we met. For me, we met as strangers and just a few days later, left as good friends. This was definitely a worthwhile experience in many respects.

Wow! Thank you for this review and the much-appreciated compliments. Thanks also for laughing at my jokes! Yellowstone in the winter can be a difficult place to photograph, first because of the "chilly" conditions but also because there are so many photo opportunities. I'm very happy to hear that I was able to help by pointing out some of the simple things that can make for a special image. Can be a bit overwhelming. I hope we cross paths again one day. In the meantime good luck learning how to process those RAW files! Take care, David

I have had a dslr for a few years, and mostly shot in auto mode. I booked a session with David and even though the weather decided not to cooperate, we went out shooting for several hours. I learned some of the basics of camera settings and took some pretty cool photos. When I returned home, I was able to edit them, and I was showing a lady from work and she wanted to purchase one of them to decorate her home. If I ever make it back to the Park City area, I will definitely book another session!

The fall colors are pretty much shot around here so time to put the camera down for a bit and play catch-up! Sorry for the delay in responding. Many thanks for taking the time to review your photography lesson and the tour of some of the backroads here in the Wasatch mountains. I do wish the weather had been a little less damp but it does show you how you can still get some wonderful images, even in the rain and wind! I think I remember a little snow coming down as well! I look forward to see you again one day! David

On a day with suboptimal conditions (haze due to wildfire smoke from Oregon), Dave provided some great locations for photos, and even better provided his insight as to composition and light, using my equipment more effectively, and just seeing the beautiful in the Uinita National Forest. He is a true professional, with a professional's knowledge and experience, which he shares without making you feel like the gap between you and he as a photographer is as large as it is! I will definitely be looking at booking another time with Dave if the opportunity presents.

So sorry for the late reply! I didn't get a notice for some reason. I'm better with the camera than with tech stuff! Great to hear you enjoyed yourself during your lesson. As you said a bit of smoke/haze to deal with but it's still nice to be out in the mountains sharing some of my photo and location knowledge. I hope we cross paths again! David

My husband and I spent a lovely morning with David taking photos in the Heber Valley. We highly recommend working with David. He is very knowledgeable and a skilled guide. We found ourselves in locations we would have never found on our own....high above the valley amid the aspens, pine and oak trees.

Thank you Terry and Terry for taking the time to post your review and photos. Thanks also for spending some time searching around the mountains for my phone! I always enjoy sharing the "secret" locations and hopefully you both managed to capture some wonderful photos during our time together. Hope to see you both again!

I met David early in the am and we had a great winter morning out in the snow and sun. He took me to beautiful open spaces! I got great shots of landscapes, horses, and learned some new techniques with my camera! David is a wealth of knowledge and very patient.

What a delight!
