About
If you'll be visiting the Park City Utah area or live in this area then we hope you'll consider joining award winning, internationally recognized landscape and wildlife photographer David C Schultz, and Wasatch Mountain local on a private 1/2 or full day private photo tour with lessons. You'll explore the back-roads and trails in the Wasatch or Uinta Mountains and the Heber Valley in search of the perfect location and conditions for capturing memorable images of your visit. All lessons are geared towards exactly what skills you wish to improve, this includes cell phones to pro gear. Post-processing including Photoshop and Lightroom lessons are also available. Tours begin and end in nearby Heber City which is about a 20 minute drive from Park City. Since these are private lessons/tours the start time can be adjusted but it is best to start out for sunrise photo opportunities. Please check out the website for more information along with additional images.

What a great trip! The small group- myself and one other photographer, plus David who runs the trip and the driver, made the trip. Basically we could stop and photograph wherever we wanted and for as long as we wanted. As a photographer there is nothing better than a small trip. And the vehicle was amazing- very easy to get in and out of, and held all of our gear.
But most important David, and Ed our driver, have an amazing knowledge of the area. David is always helpful and both went out of their way to make it a great trip

Thanks for taking the time to leave this review and for joining me on the photo excursion! Yellowstone in the winter can be a tough one with the weather and with getting the critters to cooperate so being flexible with a small group and vehicle makes a big difference as you saw. Had a great time with you both and I'm looking forward to the next time we connect! Happy shooting!

I have had a dslr for a few years, and mostly shot in auto mode. I booked a session with David and even though the weather decided not to cooperate, we went out shooting for several hours. I learned some of the basics of camera settings and took some pretty cool photos. When I returned home, I was able to edit them, and I was showing a lady from work and she wanted to purchase one of them to decorate her home. If I ever make it back to the Park City area, I will definitely book another session!

The fall colors are pretty much shot around here so time to put the camera down for a bit and play catch-up! Sorry for the delay in responding. Many thanks for taking the time to review your photography lesson and the tour of some of the backroads here in the Wasatch mountains. I do wish the weather had been a little less damp but it does show you how you can still get some wonderful images, even in the rain and wind! I think I remember a little snow coming down as well! I look forward to see you again one day! David

My husband and I spent a lovely morning with David taking photos in the Heber Valley. We highly recommend working with David. He is very knowledgeable and a skilled guide. We found ourselves in locations we would have never found on our own....high above the valley amid the aspens, pine and oak trees.

Thank you Terry and Terry for taking the time to post your review and photos. Thanks also for spending some time searching around the mountains for my phone! I always enjoy sharing the "secret" locations and hopefully you both managed to capture some wonderful photos during our time together. Hope to see you both again!

I booked David's Yellowstone in Winter photo tour to fulfill one of my "bucket list" items. Been looking forward to seeing Yellowstone in wintertime for many years and getting some great shots along the way. With David's help, I was not disappointed.

I have been on various other photo tours in recent years but, none of them were as informative and helpful as David's. I learned so much more about how to use my camera from David than from all other photo trips I have participated in, combined. He is an excellent teacher and I feel much more confident than ever with getting that perfect shot.

As for composition, he taught me some things to look for in a scene that
I most likely would not have realized on my own. Thanks to his coaching, I ended up with some really nice photos from this tour.

His personal nature and sense of humor put us at ease from the first day we met. For me, we met as strangers and just a few days later, left as good friends. This was definitely a worthwhile experience in many respects.

Wow! Thank you for this review and the much-appreciated compliments. Thanks also for laughing at my jokes! Yellowstone in the winter can be a difficult place to photograph, first because of the "chilly" conditions but also because there are so many photo opportunities. I'm very happy to hear that I was able to help by pointing out some of the simple things that can make for a special image. Can be a bit overwhelming. I hope we cross paths again one day. In the meantime good luck learning how to process those RAW files! Take care, David

I met David early in the am and we had a great winter morning out in the snow and sun. He took me to beautiful open spaces! I got great shots of landscapes, horses, and learned some new techniques with my camera! David is a wealth of knowledge and very patient.

What a delight!

I had an excellent 1:1 experience with David getting some great shots and I learned some new things to improve my pictures. David's communication to set up the excursion was excellent. He was very humble and easy going. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and was excited with the results. Highly recommended for any level photographer. Great value.

David was a great tour guide and I enjoyed this tour. He helped me learn more about the area and showed me many sites to capture images. A very enjoyable fellow to spend the day with, very knowledgeable about the area and helped me capture better photos.

I just completed my six day photography workshop at Yellowstone National Park with David Schultz who owns Wasatch Photo Tours. My experience on every level far exceeded my expectations and I learned so much from David.

Prior to the trip, David was extremely helpful in providing guidance on extreme cold weather clothing as well as camera gear. (It was -25 each morning when we set out). He answered my emails promptly and we had several telephone calls. Bottom line, he was always available.

I can't say enough about David's workshop/tour. He only allows two photographers per trip which is genius. I saw so many 15-30 passenger vehicles disgorging photographers all carrying tripods and monster 800mm lenses. Talk about a logistical nightmare. We were in a Chevy Tahoe with snow tracks and we could stop anywhere and anytime we wanted. If we were driving and saw something we wanted to photograph we just told the driver to “stop” and out we went to shoot or we’d just roll down the windows and shoot from the car. David's Yellowstone workshop isn't cheap but you get what you pay for. It’s important to note the price includes your hotel room, breakfast and lunch each day as well as the cost of the vehicle rental and driver. I researched and yes there are many others for much less but you get what you paid for and you're likely on the "animal house" bus. No thank you.

I highly recommend David Schultz for your next Yellowstone photography trip.

Hi Bill! Hopefully you've warmed up by now! Thank you first for joining me on this tour and for allowing me to share Yellowstone and all the photo opportunities it provides. I also appreciate your comments, and thanks for uploading some of the photos you captured doing the trip. I'm happy that you saw the benefits of going on one of my 2 person tours as opposed to the 15+ passenger offerings out there. Hope to cross paths again! Happy shooting and good luck with the "big lens" purchase. :-) Take care, David

David Schultz patiently taught me to use manual exposure settings with confidence during my freezing morning solo photo tour in the Heber Valley. He was dealing with a lingering dry cough from a viral illness and the air was bitter cold, but rather than accepting my offer to cancel the excursion, he encouraged me to go for it with a smile on his face and the gentle guidance and patience of an artist who truly enjoys sharing the joys of their medium. In addition to setting me up to capture the light of sunrise painting the frozen morning landscape, David had me seeing beauty in details, like the wonder of frost developing on the dry thistles and fenceposts, and the abstract forms of ice crystalizing around rocks. It is a photo tour that I will always remember and I have newfound understanding about utilizing the full potential of my Nikon D7000 camera which I had never dreamed of. David patiently encouraged me to reinforce the skills with each photo I shot, answering any and all questions with thoughtful consideration.
I hope you give David Schultz's photography tour a try when visiting Park City as you will be rewarded with unique photos and new insights and skills taught by a gifted and giving teacher.

Thank you SO much for this wonderful review, and for posting a few of your images, including the one of me. It was a pleasure working with you and I'm glad to have been able to help you explore other ways of looking at and photographing your surroundings, even when it's freezing out! Wishing you all the best! David

I spent a very productive day with David Schultz. He is the kind of teacher who will tell you as little or as much as you want or are ready for. He can be a photo tour guide or a professor of wildlife and landscape photography. If you like to take pictures with your smartphone, then he’ll take you to the right places and help you with composition that make the star of your social network. If you are serious and need to refine some specific skills, then he can focus on those details too. As an amateur with my first DSLR and less than a year of practice, David helped me understand light, settings, composition, processing and most important for me on this day – where to spend my limited vacation time near Park City, Utah. It was a good day.

Hello Boyce! I certainly appreciate the review. I'm happy to hear that the time we spent exploring the Wasatch Mountains was of such benefit to you and your photography. Not sure I can live up to the title "professor" but I'll let others decide that one! Wishing you nothing but safe travels and excellent photos. Take care, David
