It's a shame that a few people have had poor experiences with the horseback tours because this experience was truly one of the best things I have ever done in my life. It's been a dream of mine to horseback here, as I grew up watching westerns with my grandpa with scenes from the valley.

My guide was extremely knowledgeable and was able to read the situation very well - he made it a lighthearted yet meaningful time all at once. I was the only person who booked for that time slot, so I got a private tour at no extra cost. The guide (Mr. Lynch) was invested in making sure I had an unforgettable ride and sang Navajo songs and taught me basic conversation in the Navajo language. I cannot express enough how great this horseback tour was. I have ridden all around the world and found this to be one of the most unforgettable.

Got to see baby sheep and cows too :)

We took a two hour horseback riding tour with Sharandon Clark as our guide. Best guide EVER, best tour EVER! Sharandon shared Navaho traditions and told us about the land while we were in awe of the beauty. We rode Mack and Tinhorn and they’re personalities became evident very quickly. Sharandon and the staff picked the best horses for our experience. (My daughter has much more experience than I do) some of the other staff came along and rode bareback and when they were not with us on the trial, the sun painted a stunning picture of their silhouettes with a golden outline of the horses and the dust behind them on the ridge. It’s worth every penny!

Hi DodickC! Your review is a lovely description of what we hope every one of our guests experiences during their tour. Being paired with a horse that makes you feel comfortable while riding is very important to us and we're so glad to hear you and your daughter had such a wonderful time. Thank you for choosing Sacred Monument Tours! We hope to see you and your family again!

I was raised riding horses so this was something I was really looking forward to doing on our road trip and it did not disappoint! My husband and I were the only 2 on this tour due to the craziness of COVID and we had the best time. Our tour was actually supposed to be at 8 AM and it was going to be cold. But Torrie called us the day before and we moved it to 10 AM when it was a little warmer. My husband has never ridden horses before so he was assigned Sideburn, who was nice and stable and took good care of him. I got Edgar who also was really nice. I would have loved to have galloped through the desert but I was worried my husband would freak out so I didn't even ask - but I am sure I would have been allowed to do so. We were able to stop and take a bunch of photos - the one attached to this review is one of my favorites of our entire road trip. I have it up in my house. We had just the greatest time! I would recommend this tour to anyone that wants to experience the beauty of Monument Valley a little differently. There is nothing like seeing the world on horse back.

I’ll start off by saying communication was good and then things went downhill. Our tour started late due to another guest arriving late which was not an issue. We took the 2 hour sunset tour and our driver was Lorraine. She told us nothing about Navajo culture but just what to look for in the rock formations. Basically she was a driver and that’s about it. She was so rude to other park guests who got lost, she told them it was their fault and to figure it out and that they should have took a tour. She proceeded to honk and shout at other park patrons. Because the tour started late we pulled up to the view point for sunset with 2 minutes to spare and barely had time for a photo but the kicker was despite all of this we felt bad and offered a little tip Lorraine opened the bill to see what we gave her and gave us the dirtiest look and revved her engine and sped off. We were dumbfounded. So big tips are expected here. Don’t waste your money there are other way better tours that will give you great Navajo history and put effort into it.

We took the morning tour and were lucky enough to have Larry as our guide. He told us the story of the valley from the Navajo perspective, and it really made everything fall into perspective for us. His knowledge and stories, along with the added treat of him singing in Navajo (we felt so lucky for this!) made this the most unforgettable part of our trip to the Southwest.

Outside of Larry, the tour company was very friendly and accomodating when we were running late and had to reschedule. I hope everyone who visits Monument Valley gets to experience this tour.

Highly recommend Sacred Monument Tours, especially the slightly longer guided vehicle tour which takes you on private roads in the park. Our guide, Lorraine, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable about the area, and kind about helping us take family photos in some of the more beautiful areas that were off the main loop. She deftly navigated difficult driving throughs sand to show us petroglyphs up close and personal.

We planned the Sunset Tour (Vehicle Tour) with Sacred Monument and one day before it was asked to depart one hour before because then it was so dark. Unfortunately we were not able to arrive earlier because we had other tours in Page and thus we agreed the initial departure time.
Arrived in the meeting point we met Lorena (or something similar) and she was immediately not polite with us (no introduction, pushed us to depart immediately, etc.).
Moreover, she wanted cash money and this was not defined in the email (even if she told us that she sent an email one day before, not true). Therefore we agreed that after the tour we had to go to withdrawn money near Goulding’s lodge (so outside Monument valley) with her.
We departed 15 minutes earlier and she was hurry in everything (clacson against other drivers, screaming us to comeback in the car while we were taking pictures, etc.).
In the end we went back 30 minutes earlier to see the sunset from The View Hotel (best place for the sunset) and we finished the tour 15 minutes earlier but she asked to go with her immediately to withdrawn money in an ATM. Therefore, my girlfriend lost the sunset because Lorena could not wait 5-10 minutes due to the fact that she had to go home (not true because in the end she remained near the ATM talking with her friends..)

I would not suggest to anyone this tour, especially for the prices we paid (in our car we were just 2 people while in other tours more people, so you can imagine why…)

Better to go with your rent car or see for other tours!

Last but not least, Lorena had also the courage to ask a tip to my girlfriend in front of ATM: no words!

We truly had a magical time on this one hour horse ride. Seeing Monument Valley early morning, all by ourselves (we were lucky, being only us the family with our tour guide) was magnificient. Thank you to your guide Justin who was kind to us, beginners, and especially to our 10 year-old boy.

Hi 189isabelleg! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We're glad your horseback tour was enjoyed by you and your family. The early morning tours are very peaceful and the quietness of Monument Valley can really be enjoyed. Hopefully, you come see us again soon. We recommend the sunset tour next time. It's just as magical.

We had an amazing time with our guide Roy. He was very informative and pointed out many things we would not have noticed on our own. He even gave us a little concert on his wind flute. We could tell he had great respect for the monuments. I would highly recommend this tour!

Elaine was our driver. We assumed she would also be our guide, but that was NOT the case. She just dropped us off at some placets for pictures, but was to lazy to get out of the car herself. She said she was tired…. We received zero information about the ancient drawings nor the Navajo people. She also drove 25 Miles were 15 is the max speed. How can you expect guests to follow the rules when your driver does not. We were very disappointed. Better take a tour with a guide and avoid this company.
