We did not actually visit the center but arranged for a Dark Sky program four our traveling group of 24 people.

The program was done by Ben Muhlestein and a volunteer. Ben did a tremendous job for our group. He made the best out of trying to do a dark sky presentation with a full moon. He and his volunteer were extremely thorough and very interested and excited to share their knowledge, interest, and passion about astronomy. We appreciated Ben bringing out 2 large telescopes to enhance the program. He even drove to Blanding to meet with our group.

They have a fantastic employee in Ben. His volunteer assistant drove quite a distance to participate and did a super job too.

Stop in and say hi to Mary and the rest of the staff. Then wander through the center and take advantage of more information and entertainment than you can imagine. They say "It's whats on the inside that counts" when talking about people, but that phrase can also be said about the Canyon Country Discovery Center. Plus what is on the outside is pretty cool too, so when you combine what is on the inside, with what is outside it makes it a place you have to stop into when in the Monticello area. If you are going to be poking around the area for a couple of days, or couple of weeks, talk to Mary about interesting places to drive/hike/walk. She is a transplant to the area herself and has made it a mission to get out and really see what is out there.

I was so impressed with the Canyon Country Discovery Center! When I walked in I felt welcome, and my eye was drawn to the map of the Four Corners area on the floor, as well as the attractive display in the gift shop. I wanted one of everything! The staff is so welcoming and gracious, and it was a delight to hear the lady at the counter interact with and answer questions.
The interactive exhibits are amazing! I could have spent a couple hours exploring the light wall, making a wind turbine (as I watched the amazing windmills turning outside the window), or making land formations in the sandtable. There were so many things to see and do, but my favorite was the magnetic liquid. Then there's the bouldering wall...I can't WAIT to come back with some kids!! They have hiking trails plus some outdoor exploration centers--perfect for getting some of that energy out!
As a teacher, I'd LOVE to bring my students here. This place is AMAZING!! I'm excited to know that the Discovery Center also travels to schools with some of their presentations. They have an inflatable Star Lab as well as other presentations. I'll be recommending this place to my students!

Decided to stop here with my family as a break from a long car ride. It seemed welcoming with a sign ay the entrance reading OPEN. We go up to the door and its locked, I checked the website, it says open. We waited around for about 30 minutes walking the trails and checked the door again, still locked. A sign at the door would be nice, for example, "Be back at so and so time."

Hopefully it'll be open next time we stop by. The trails were fun though!

Have been here before and enjoyed the exhibits and knowledgeable staff. My recent visit was quite different, the air was tense and staff were unavailable. Some exhibits were down for repair and the whole place seemed rundown or neglected.

This is the second year in a row that the website has listed open yet we drive an hour to find that it is not. The number listed is the board of directors...whom never answers. Super frustrating that they can't update their website (this day and age that's what we use for details) super disappointing.

Had time to kill so decided to check this place out finally. It was pretty busy with a bunch of kids but the guy at the counter didn't help out much. Asked a few questions about the place like what is was all about. Just told me to pay a local price and I'd find out. The men's room was pretty messed up. Ended up using the one at the local welcome center and the museum there was free.

A guide took us into Bears Ears where we saw petroglyphs, ancient ruins, desert potholes, foliage, etc. They provided the transportation and know-how, which was invaluable. I don't know how we could have found these places without them. After our day in Bears Ears, we visited the center. It is beautiful! Huge picture windows, large photographs from around the state, and so many fun things for kids to do. It seemed really affordable, too.

Canyon Country Discovery Center offers information on, not just Utah, but the entire Colorado Plateau, in other words, the 4 Corners region of AZ, CO, NM and UT. Need ideas on hikes, climbing and river rafting in San Juan County, Utah? The Discovery Center not only has the information, but also offers 1 day to multi-day tours within San Juan County, and along the San Juan River! Lost? The friendly and welcoming staff can give you easy directions to wherever you're ending to, especially Canyonlands National Park, or Bears Ears National Monument.

This is a wonderful place to spend hours of exploring: interactive exhibits for geology, wildlife, plant life, weather, water and outer space. Perfect for families as the kids will not want to stop climbing the bouldering wall, creating large light-bright displays, or creating hills and valleys in the digitally enhanced sand box. There are hiking trails on the property, an outdoor playscape, clean restrooms, gift shop including snacks and cold drinks.

Bus tours would find this a perfect rest stop!

It's very nice and new. It's on the small side, but it's got a lot of great activities for the kids to do. It's very interactive. Outside is also a natural play area that is nice.
