If you want a chance to chase the light in the beauty of Iceland with the guidance of amazing photographers, this is the trip for you. David (based in the US) and Siggi (based in Iceland) are both professional photographers and have a deep knowledge of all major camera brands. I learned a ton of new skills under their tutelage and came away happy with my shots -- sunrise at Diamond Beach, sunset at the glacier lake, northern lights, and more. They adjusted the trip schedule nimbly to adapt to changing weather, light, and northern lights conditions to maximize the best light for the nearby photographic opportunities. Great trip planning an execution. Highly recommend!

I just did a 4 days private tour along with my wife in the Utah Badlands. Kathleen was our guide and made sure that we were able to see some premiere locations and at the same time avoid the crowds that have flocked to this area. We did not do Milky Way as the clouds at night had other plans for us so we made the most of the morning and evening opportunities that were available. My wife is relatively new to photography and Kathleen made sure to help her stretch her limits and become much more comfortable behind the lens. I've done many workshops with Action Phot Tours and this private outing was of equal high quality as the workshops are and a good alternative when workshops are full as was the case in the Utah Badlands this spring.

Came back from the first trip with APT, one of the multi day trip to Escalante,UT canyons. My experience with company started as I worked with Nicole couple of months prior, on a relatively short notice. She was very responsive with answering all of my questions and addressing concerns, prompt and to the point. Excellent start. As my interest was primarily in reaching places in this area of Utah, which are hard or not safe to go to alone for a non hard core hiker, I signed up for "Canyon Colors". That is quite an arduous trip, at least 2 days of 5, in Coyote Gulch and Neon Canyon, trust their description. Johnny was most excellent tho, in areas which count - safety and guidance. Not discounting photography instruction, I enjoyed listening to his personalized view on visualizing and procesisng, but he especially shined in guiding. Wonderful job, quite personal too. Scenery in these remote areas is trmendously inspirational and hiking was great, just the match for intermediate to advanced hiker. For anyone going it is worth studying detailed description of the hike tho, up and down the great slub into Coyote Gulch was one of the harder experiences I ever had. But this was a great way to see places that are off the beaten path. I do highly recommend going on tours with Action Photo Tours and I highly recommend Johnny as a guide/instructor.

My wife and I went to White Pocket with Action Photo Tours. We had to sit in the 3rd row of a Suburban (which was extremely cramped for a 6-foot tall adult) and way too bouncy on the rough roads, yet we paid the same price as everyone else. Our gear was haphazardly packed in the back, which was still dirty from previous trips, and another passenger's water bottle leaked all over my gear. Our "instructor" only had about 1 month of experience and even had difficulty finding the site. We only got about 3 hours of shooting time. I have been on several photo tours with other companies and definitely will not take another tour with this one.

Hello Dan - Thank you for joining us on the White Pocket Sunset Tour and sharing your thoughts with us. I'm very sorry that we fell short of your expectations and will use your feedback to further improve our service. In addition to our previous email exchanges, I would like to offer some behind the scenes information that may help you understand why your perspective may not be the whole story. At your request, we picked you up at the location of your stay instead of meeting us at our office like the rest of the group. As a result, the other clients were already seated when we picked you up. Nonetheless, about 10 mins into the ride, we stopped on the side of the road and you switched seats from the back to the front passenger seat. You rode in the front passenger seat the rest of the way to White Pocket. On the way back, the client who switched seats with you offered to take the back seat again but you declined, stating "my back is feeling better after I hiked around a little bit." You are absolutely right that everyone pays the same price on our tours. We are glad that you were able ride comfortably for half of the trip when one of the client offered you his seat. We are sorry that we were not more insistent on you taking the front seat again on the way back when the other client offered. As you might remember, your tour was cut short by half an hour at the request of the group. It was an unseasonably cold and windy day. Shortly after sunset, the good light dissipated and the consensus of your group was to leave a little early and get back to the warm car. Although your guide has only been with our company for one month, he is an experienced photographer and instructor. He received his degree in photography from the Manhattan School of Arts and we feel fortunate to have him on the team. He is also a Kanab local who knows the area very well. Our recent inclement weather has made certain roads challenging and impassible. I understand he was looking for an alternate road that might be less bumpy for yourself who has back issues and other clients who are prone to motion sickness. We are sorry that you were under the impression your guide was inexperienced. I hope this information will reassure you. Thank you for sharing with me in your email that you were able to get some great shots on the trip. Again, I'm very sorry that you feel we fell short. Your input is very important to us and we will use your feedback at our upcoming team meeting. Thanks, David Swindler

Thank You for a fabulous workshop! Rob Sturgess and myself talked non-stop for the 2 days of driving home, raving about the workshop. While weather could have cooperated better, Kevin and yourself got us to the locations in time, motivated us, educated us and cared for our well being. I saw the group had a wide range of photographic experience and you two made sure each member had personalized attention. David your Death Valley workshop was spectacular, everything is a ten out of ten, your attention to detail is at the brilliant level. I'm looking forward to participating in another workshop with you. Sincere appreciation, David McQ.

We were blessed by being able to get a lottery permit for the Wave (North Coyote Butte) area. To make the most of the valuable permit time we investigated the possibility of hiring a guide. Upon review of the different guide agency along with looking at a personal needs we decided to hire Action Photo Tours to provided us with a guided tour.

We were not disappointed in our choice! Our guide ;Johnny, did an excellent job if providing us with an incredible tour which made the most of our permit! Many of the more interesting sights in the North Coyote Butte are difficult to locate and finding a passable route to some of the feature locations (even with GPS coordinates) is non trivial (hint: rugged terrain). In addition go being able to hit the main sites and maximize our time Johnny was also extremely knowledgeable (understatement) and helpful in assisting my wife and myself in improving our photography skills.

For a photography guide service in the Kanab area we highly recommend Action Photo Tours!

We have another Kanab area destination in mind in the not too distant future and are planning on using their services again.

This was my 4th trip with Action Photo Tours - I keep coming back because my experience with them has always been excelleny. I receive good instruction both in Photoshop/Lightroom as well as tips when shooting in specific environments. I have traveled with several of their leaders (not just the owner, David Swindler) and they were all very knowledgeable, helpful and knew how to get around the areas that I could never find (or was unwilling to even try to navigate in a vehicle). They have the appropriate vehicles that take us through mud and deep sand, the air conditioning works in the vehicles and their team knows how to drive! Our group leader on this trip shared with us about how the Badlands were formed and had lots of interesting information to make the drive more interesting. He was friendly and cheerful and positive - encouraging me to try new things (but not to the point of pushing me beyond my physical abilities) since I have a desk job back home! I could tell that his priority was to get me the best possible experience with as much variety as we could pack in. When I made specific requests for types of night shoots, he did what he needed to to to make sure we incorporated those items into our trip. I had a very positive experience; felt safe and cared for because Action Photo Tours is a very good company to travel with. I HIGHLY recommend them.

Just completed the awesome “Beyond the Badlands” tour in Utah. David and the instructors are very patient and extremely knowledgeable. Locations are selected daily to maximize the scenic beauty. We made extra stops along the ways to capture concealed compositions which could had missed by others. David knows the off road terrain by heart with no GPS necessary. Many are hidden gems only discoverable by avid photographers. So 4x4 rides and short trekking are essential to get to those places, and the rewards are limitless. When it comes to South West photography, I highly recommend to use their specialized knowledge for capturing the stunning landscapes. I’ll definitively will join them again on other tours.

Amy was an excellent driver and guide. We covered all the highlights of White Pocket and caught a great sunset.

Most people looking into photographing the White Pocket know that the road is quite treacherous and that alone was reason enough for us to go with a guide. But part of what makes this location so special is also that there isn't an "iconic" view or viewpoints. This is what makes it so much fun but also challenging for a first time visitor. Fortunately for us Amy knew the White Pocket like the back of her hand and got us to many great spots in the best light of the day. Highly recommended!

After seeing a few of David Swindler's amazing milky way panoramas in Kanab I took two short trips with Action in 2019. It opened my eyes to this type of workshop approach, led by a professional, and now I'm hooked. David not only does superb astro and landscape photography, it is his philosophy and skill at preserving and illuminating the natural beauty in his subjects that attracts me the most. In a world where it is so easy to push those sliders, this is really important. I try to take every class he teaches and look forward some serious outings when the world gets normal again.
