Finding the correct path after leaving the wash, can be an issue. After 1/4 mile, just hug the right hand side white cliff walls and you will see a cairn marking the spot. Make a right and hike up the very steep section. After that, it is reasonably easy following the trail. Yellow Rock is a sight to behold. Make you way on it and play to your hearts content.

Yellow Rock is a great destination if you travel near Kanab or Page.
No permit is needed, not like "The Wave" for instance, and I assure you it's as amazing !
It doesn't take long to go there, and the hike itself is quite short (2.5 Miles Round Trip).
Take good walking shoes as it's quite steep at the beginning...
You can spend a good time taking picture once you get there (Average Hiking Time: 3 hours)
The best time is, as often, at sunset.
The area is quite large to discover, so take you time to explore Yellow Rock !
You won't be disappointed.

From UT highway 89, follow Cottonwood Canyon road about 14.3 miles north to the parking area. From the trailhead, walk SW and cross Cottonwood Wash and continue to the first drainage which is about .25 miles from the trailhead. Turn west on the faint trail that goes up the right (north) side of the drainage. There are a few cairns along the way. The trail becomes steep and has loose rock so a trekking pole or stick might be helpful. Once you reach the top of the cliffs the trail is well cairned and leads you to a location at about the center of Yellow Rocks base. Yellow Rock is pretty easy to climb and explore. The mountain has very interesting swirls of various bright colors and is very photogenic.

You have to drive on Cottonwood Canyon road for many miles until you see the Hackberry sign. Park here as Hackberry and Yellow Rock share the same parking place. As you face the Cottonwood creek, go left(along the flow) for about 300-400 yards until the trail dead ends into the creek. You cross the creek. You will see the trail again as it goes towards the canyon wall. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL. The trail is very steep with loose rocks and soil making it very dangerous. Once, you get to the top. You need to hike about another quarter of a mile to get to Yellow Rock. The trails are well cairned. You need to bring plenty of water as there is absolutely no shade on the rock so it gets very hot. Coming back is worse because you are going with gravity as you go downhill with the loose rocks and soil. Go slow if you want to get out without serious injury. Take a lot of pictures. The slope facing east- good sunrise and slope facing west good sunset BUT you need to see the trail well to avoid falling.

There are 2 different trails going up Yellow Rock, both beautiful. This entire area is spectacular, site of many of the old westerns. The rock color in the Clarion Formation (50-60 million years old) is so striking it's uncanny.

2.5 miles up and 2.5 miles down. The beginning stretch is almost straight up on slippery rock scree (about 250 yards) climbing about 100 feet. Bring light gloves for grip going up and good quality walking sticks for going down. There is no shade to speak of, so don’t try this hike in hot weather. Good hiking shoes are a must for traction. Bring plenty of water. Wear a broad brim hat.

Not much to say other than it's a great half day hike. When you get to the top, the scenery is magnificent.
