We used Grand Canyon Expeditions for a rafting trip through the entire Grand Canyon. It starts at Lee's Ferry on the east side of the canyon and ends at Piers Ferry on the west side. Our guides were Ben and Julie, a husband-and-wife team. Ben...More
A first-rate operation thru unequalled scenery and adventure. Experience of a lifetime. I'm sure all of the guides are excellent, but special call-out to Ben & Julie. You are wonderful guides and wonderful people!
Every year my family visits a National Park for our annual vacation. This year we went down all 277 miles of the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon Expeditions was recommended to us if we were going to take the Canyon adventure by...More
I will keep this simple as the many positive reviews here are 100% accurate (do read them). Simply the organisation is brilliant from start to finish. This company definitely cares for you during the whole experience.

First, it was an amazing trip. I waited almost 20 years to take this trip and had very high expectations. Adam and Kyle exceeded everything I had hoped to see, hear and experience. Thank you for having such an exceptional Guide team. Incredible.

Once we arrived early at our camp and it was so hot (>110degf) we just hung out for hours under the umbrellas having a drink with an occasional plunge to cool off. Another time we hiked up a side canyon and just laid back all morning so we'd catch the water flow right (the dories are much more sensitive and the guides watch the the dam release schedules and will time the day's schedules accordingly). Other times we'd do a side hike and just relax for an hour or two. It's one of the easons I loved the dory trip over the one week trip - so much more time! We spent all morning at Deer Creek, watching the rafting groups come and go because they had a tighter schedule. Was I bored? Never! You're in one of the 7 wonders of the world, the guides always have something to say, and it's great to just have the opportunity to soak in the beauty and wonder of the canyon.

A durable plastic water bottle like Nalgene or something that can be dropped would be good. I brought two- one for water and one for afternoon cold coffee/tea (or in case one got lost). Many people had the tin can kind of water bottles. Personally, I don't like the metal taste with the can water jugs.
It will help to be able to attach a carabiner to it so you don't lose it in the rapids if you forget to tuck it away.
The team filters the water from the river everyday. I drank over a gallon a day and never got sick or an upset stomach so you should not have to bring your own bottle filtration system. But, if you are picky with water tastes, then maybe you should bring a filtered bottle. I've never used those (filtered-types) so I cannot recommend a brand- sorry!
Have a wonderful time! :-)
P.S. On my trip GCEX also supplied La Croix canned water. But, I don't know if that is a norm.
