Coyote Buttes South is divided into two areas, Cottonwood Cove and Paw Hole. We went to Cottonwood Cove first, and we spend a lot of time there just because it is so beautiful! The most important thing is that you have to have a 4WD...More

Visited SCB in early October 2018 and was absolutely NOT disappointed by missing out in the Wave lottery. Toured with the Paria Outpost people and Eric, our guide, was fantastic. His geological knowledge and enthusiasm for SCB was a treat. The colors and the surreal...More

We were lucky enough to tour South Coyote Buttes in Vermillion Cliffs with Kanab Tour company last week! What an awesome adventure! The buttes themselves in the Paw Hole region are like bright rusty red beehives! And on the north east section of the south...More

I highly recommend hiring a guide who has 4WD and can drive on sandy roads. Yermo at Seeking Treasure Adventures is an excellent choice. It's easy to get lost in this area that requires you to go through multiple cattle gates to access the best...More

Absolutely stunning views - definitely one of my favorite hikes I have ever done! It was as also very strenuous, with hot temperatures, little shade and traveling through deep sand by totally worth it!! 🎉🎉🎉

The Wave. That's all everyone talks about. People go back day after day after day to get The Wave tickets. Ok, - I can't compare, I didn't go back and haven't seen The Wave. But we did rent a 4-wheel drive to get out to...More

Be cautious, the rocks on which you will be walking are heat sinks. The temperature on the rocks are about 20 degrees warmer than ambient. The scenery is phenomenal. The BLM does have a rover who checks for permits if you are going to the...More

South coyote buttes are amazing. The Wave gets all the hype, but you won't feel like you missed out if you "settle" for a permit to south coyote.

You need a permit but it is well worth it. We had a great time exploring the area and enjoying our very own private adventure, since there really was no one there, we had the place to ourselves. The last mile on the sand road...More

Late Feb. will probably see temps in the 40's during the day and 20's at night. Rain and/or snow is a possibility. Layer up

I cannot offer assistance on where to unhook. I will advise, DO NOT attempt to pull the trailer down the 8 mile dirt road. I would contact the Kanab Visitor's Center on areas for trailers.

1.Does anyone know what the views are like if you just drive the dirt road BLM 1079 to white pocket then onto paw hole? 2.Can you see any of the scenic colored areas from the road? Didnt want to have to try and get a permit, just will not go on trails if I can get great pictures of the area, but will if necessary. I'm not about the hiking, but about more about picture taking. If not I dont have a problem with and easy to moderate hike as long as I can take my time. 3. We have 4WD Toyota Tundra and were planning on driving the entire BLM1079 road loop fromWilderness Area past White Pocket then past Paw Hole straight until it meets up wtih House Rock Road as we are heading to Big Water after. Is this possible or even worth it? I am traveling from upstate NY right on the Canadian border so will never be back again as its a 5 day drive just to get here with the camper so I want to make it worth it. Since my cahnces of getting to" the wave" are almost zero everything I read said the scenery in this area was also very colorful and beautiful. Any help, suggestions, and information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, MP

First, the wave lottery in kanab varies from day to day, it's not impossible, some days are better than others. Yes, you can see some things from the road, but the really beauty you have to hike it. Most of the hiking up to... More
