Beautiful mountain drive with a gorgeous stop at Mirror Lake. Not super steep or anything like that. Just a nice mountain drive. Mirror Lake was crowded but found parking and enjoyed hanging out relaxing and taking in the scenery.

We intended to drive to Mirror Lake but on the day we chose the road down to Mirror Lake was closed due to a fire. So we stopped at a few of the other lakes, all smaller, but all interesting in their own right. I...More

What a great day and great drive. This is well worth it. Very scenic. Take time to stop at the lakes and especially the pulloffs at the top.

Saw this third week in September and aspen leaves were beautiful. Also some great hiking in the Unitas. You might want to turn around after Mirror Lake and head back to Kamas. It gets more high-desert like toward the WY border.

Driving Around Park City (1 Reply)
Hello! We are visiting for 2 weeks in early October and wanted to do the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway and Alpine Loop. The UDOT website says that chains are required October - March. Is this really the case for early October? We don't have a lot of experience with snow driving or chains. Thanks!

I'm not sure why there's a reference on the UDOT site about needing chains October to May. Both those roads close completely during the winter. They aren't plowed, at all. There hasn't been enough snow yet to have that happen. If the road/weather is bad enough to require the use of chains, you shouldn't be out driving in it if you don't have experience driving in snow. Frankly, I don't think you'll have a problem driving Mirror Lake highway in the next couple of weeks as it's pretty heavily...More

Most of the campgrounds along the Mirror Lake Highway are going to be at 8000’ or greater. Mirror Lake is over 10,000’. Be prepared for overnight temps in the 30s. Coming in from Heber City, the last chance for groceries, food and gas will be in Kamas, Utah.
