About Stonybrook Fly Fishing
Stonybrook Fly Fishing Consultants is a hand-picked team of some of the intermountain region's most hardcore trout experts. For our astute, attentive, and conscientious fly fishing guides, simply putting a couple of fish in the net is just never enough. Whether you've never picked up a fly rod before, or can't seem to put one down, we can help you get off to the right start, take your fly fishing game to the next level, or just get you plugged-in to some of the most productive trout streams in the American west. Our home base in scenic Heber City, Utah is conveniently situated in one of the fishiest spots in the Rockies. The same copious snow fall that makes northern Utah famous for world-class skiing is also what ultimately provides for such world-class fly fishing. Nestled between the resort-rich Wasatch Mountains to the west and the wild and primitive Uinta Mountains to the east, the Heber Valley is bisected by the blue-ribbon Provo River and is just a quick drive from other gems like the Weber, Strawberry, and Green Rivers and the myriad small to medium sized streams of the Uinta Basin. This is Utah fly fishing at it's finest with guides that are unmatched in dedication, professionalism and skill.

My family and I were vacationing in deer valley the week leading up to thanksgiving. It’s the shoulder season and due to lack of snow we were kind of limited to activities. Our hotel concierge high recommended fly fishing. I was a bit hesitant to book because I worried about my kids being in the water and too cold to enjoy. Well I was wrong! Not once did they complain about the cold. The weather was nice in the 40s and they take you out during the warmest part of the day. Dylan picked us up at our hotel 9am sharp. It was about a 45 min drive to Provo river. Once there there was another guide named Steve who was all ready to get my kids all geared up! Mom didn’t have to do any work which was so nice! We all had about 2 layers on the bottom and 3 on top. Then the waterproof overalls did a great job keeping us all warm. Steve even provided us with gloves and warmers inside that kept our hands warm the entire trip!!! Having 2 guides was wonderful one for each kid. Both my girls absolutely loved fishing. They are 14 and 9. We are looking forward to fly fishing again now that Dylan and Steve did such a good job teaching us how! They were both so kind and patient. Thank you for the amazing memories!!!

We had the BEST DAY ever with Joe and Steve today! Like the other reviewer we were concerned that fly fishing would be a bit on the boring side BUT it was so far from it with Joe and Steve at our sides. We loved every minute of it — our family of 4 all caught fish including our 6 year old who overcame her fear of touching “slimey” fish :) Joe and Steve were amazing - patient, professional, down to earth and clearly were focused on ensuring we all had a good time. Couldn’t recommend them more!

This trip and guide were arranged through the concierge desk at the Montage Resort at Deer Valley/Park City. My wife and I began an 11 day epic trip covering the Mighty Five National Parks in Utah; starting at the Montage for 3 nights. Naturally, we wanted to experience the local scene and selected fly fishing. Note, we are heavy into fishing. I have fished with fly and spinning gear many, many, many rivers, creeks, brooks and lakes in British Columbia, Alberta and Montana and rank our experience with StonyBrook Fly Fishing and our amazing guide Dusty right up there with the best experiences to date. Dusty lives for this and his knowledge, gear and expertise paid off. We drove back country and the drive was worth it. Beautiful countryside, lots of game and wild animals and excellent views. When we arrived; we were entirely all alone; just us, our gear (all excellent as provided) and our skills and those fo Dusty. We caught several Colorado Cutthroat trout each harmlessly released back to the river and enjoyed great conversation and friendship all in the backdrop of beautiful country. I recommend StonyBrook to anyone and please ask for Dusty! Cheers, J & J

Just spent five days at the Montage Deer Valley. One of the days our concierge arranged a fly fishing day with Stonybrook Fly Fishing. We were fortunate to have the owner Joe and Scott one of his local guides. Our family had never been fly fishing before. Between all of us- myself, wife and two sons 11&14 we caught 13 fish. It was one of the most relaxing stress free days in years. Joe and Scott make you feel like family and attend to every need. From rt transportation from our hotel to the lower Provo river (40) minutes to all the equipment. Within an hour of leaving the hotel my son had his first brown trout on the hook!!! This guide company is the real deal. Big or small group the have you covered. All modern equipment and amazing flies the fish just love. Can not wait to return to Utah to fish again with Stonybrook.

This is the first time I am writing on Trip Advisor because the experience was incredible. I had no desire to "fly fish" when on vacation, but my friends wanted to. After being on the fence, about it, my husband and I decided to " go with the flow" and partake with the other two couples we were with. Joe and Dusty were amazing. They were highly qualified and extremely helpful and supportive. We got all dressed up in the rubbery overalls ( I am a city girl!) and walked in the river ( without getting wet at all) and when the fish weren't biting, he took us to another area. While we were fly fishing ( they taught us what to do , of course), we saw a giant moose! I was petrified, but they knew exactly how to handle it and it was very very cool. We saw a beaver going up the river and got photos of the moose. We all caught fish! The guides were beyond and it turned out that it was really a memorable, fun, different experience. If you want to go fly fishing in this area( which is supposed to be one of the best), there is no one better than Joe and Dusty. Joe is the owner of the company and I am sure anyone he has with him is top notch. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced fly fisherman.... I highly recommend this company. They kept us safe and made it a fun experience.
