Perhaps it was because it was the last stop on our itinerary and we were too tired (lazy) to get out of the car to look at it from a different angle, but we could not see a clear "face" from this giant rock. The heiroglyphs on the way out were cool, though.

The Great Stone Face is one of several caldera's in this horizontal lava flow which erupted under water when the Ancient Bonneville Lake covered this area and most of Utah. This is down a gravel/dirt road about 20 miles. Once you navigate through the cattle gates through an old abandoned farmstead you come upon a huge lave field from an ancient volcano. The road dead ends at the base of a steep bluff and at the top sits the great stone face. Carved by wind and rain it does resemble... More

Not a long drive from Delta but you still need to take plenty of water if in the summer. Harsh desert landscape and lots of rocks, You need to be lucky to see much wildlife in the area. A fun easy trip

Not easy to get to and the mosquitoes ate us alive. If if your are LDS and think the face looks like Joseph Smith there is still little value to this trip.
