We had such a great experience at Brian Head. My kids and I were first time skiers and my husband hadn't been skiing for over 20 years. There was something for all of us at Brian Head.
My kids and I took lessons the first day, which were so helpful. My kids' instructor was Brielle Merkley and they loved her. I was amazed at how much they learned. By our last day, they were flying down the hill and were so confident. They couldn't stop saying how much they loved skiing.
My instructor was Richard Browning. He is very knowledgeable and was patient even though we had some very frustrating people in our class. I don't think we were able to accomplish as much because of them but I still felt the class was a good value. I learned a lot and felt more confident about stopping and turning.
As a beginner, I was very comfortable at Brian Head. It wasn't super crowded and the beginner runs were still interesting and exciting. My husband also had fun on the beginner runs even though he is a more experienced skier.
Another big plus is that Brian Head is a bargain compared to other resorts. We were originally going to go to Mammoth but saved over $3,000 coming to Brian Head. I love that kids ski free and the adult lift tickets are half as much money.
We stayed in a condo which was nice enough. My only gripe is that the food scene is virtually nonexistent. We had lunch at Navajo Lodge the first day and it was fine but way too expensive. We also ate at a pizza place the first night and it was not good. I recommend picking up groceries in Cedar City (about 40 minutes outside of Brian Head) or the nearest actual city and cooking for yourself.
All in all, this was one of our favorite family vacations and we will definitely be back!

Bad year for winter sports but Brian Head was still good. Limited opened runs but wide open. Line for the lifts were not very long considering we have to be 6 feet apart and only family can sit on the lift together.
Staff were very helpful when I sustained a bad concussion on my first day up. The resort refunded 3.5 of my 4 days prepaid lift ticket; went a step further and refunded that of my boyfriend ‘s ticket as well.
If you don’t mind driving the last stretch from parawan to the slope then stay in Cedar city. Way cheaper hotels!
If you live in So Cal: fly into Vegas (cheap flights thru Southwest) rent a car (very decent price), then drive up to Cedar City. A very nice and fast drive because the speed limit is 80! And all the slow drivers know to drive in the slow lane because there is a sign that say “slow driver move to the right. It’s the law”. Staying in the 2 hotels (Best Western and Cedar Break Lodge) at Brian Head is not that great. Limited things to do, no food options, and very expensive since there is no supply

I almost hate to write this review because I want to keep this place a secret so the lift lines can stay as short as they are but they deserve a good review. We skied 4 days this past week and mostly skied on the Navajo Peak which is greens on one side and blue runs on the other. BH is a great place to ski, and while the runs aren’t the longest they are still fun no less. Everyone we encounter at the resort during our visit was very friendly and had smiling faces and every question we had was answered so kudos to management on that. The only complaints I have is the lift operating hours are only 10-4 and night skiing wasn’t available this week so we only had 6 hours to ski each day. Another complaint is there is no nightlife whatsoever in BH and the whole town shut down at dusk basically, but this is not a fault of the resort and is out of their control. Overall I would definitely recommend BH to any skier who wants to enjoy great skiing on great snow with no lift lines. We hope to be back soon.

Expensive SERVICE under New Management- Probably the last time I would visit this place. I visited the place back 2018 & took ski school when it was half the price ($150 with all equipment was included). This time at ski school no equipment was include so it was twice as expensive ($330). In addition, the customer service was not completely military friendly. Brian Head Resort does NOT believe all military veterans deserve a discount for service to one's country.
Again, the Customer Experience was a bait and switch feeling for the ski school. I would NOT recommend this location to any military families since there are plenty of other ski resorts North of this area.

Well you really should ‘KNOW’ before you here’!! Our daughter was part of a youth group, and they cancelled the trip due to Covid. On the website it certainly looks like you can cancel 48 hours before arrival but the fine print says they will only issue you a refund through April. A lot of good that will do if I’m not gonna be back up to Utah in the next four months! It’s essentially useless and the supervisor was completely unhelpful. We won’t be skiing this less than interesting mountain anytime soon and I certainly won’t go back and book anything with Brian Head if that’s their policy. Screw your customers

We have been going to Brian Head for decades with our family! It has such an awesome family friendly vibe. You can ski/board, go tubing, snowmobile at Thunder Mountain Motorsports and also this year ice skate outdoors at a new rink that was built basically on the mountain.
If your looking for a super challenging double black diamond mountain with a typical big mountain downtown with lots of bars, restaurants, movie theater(s) and pretentious people looking to be seen with ”it’s all about me” attitudes, please go to another mountain resort!! If your looking for a low key, cost effective, relaxing time in the mountains for you and your family with no pretentiousness and wonderful kind visitors and resort staff, Brian Head might be a place for you!
Brian Head Resort is an outstanding mountain for those that love to ski/board, snowmobile, tube/sled, snowshoe (rentals available at Brian Head Sports & George’s) and enjoy the outdoors while a good time at night might include enjoying live music at the Giant Steps base lodge, reading by a fire or watching a good movie on DVD with your family at your hotel or cabin/condo rental.
We recently looked up the cost of a 1 day lift ticket at Mammoth Mountain for 2021 and was shocked to see a 1 day adult lift ticket is over $200 this year! Brian Head is a much smaller family focused mountain, but is also HALF the price per day at just about $100 for a full day adult ticket for the 2021 season.
We love Brian Head Resort and have made many great family memories over the years!

Perfect vibe. Period. I’ve got 40 years of 80 day ski seasons growing up in Lake Tahoe. Obviously skiing squaw valley, sorry, Palisades, most of my youth gave me a pretty high water mark as far as resorts go. But Tahoe,Vail, Mammoth etc. are total chaos. I’ll take Brian Head. Great snow. Great employees. Great management. Great terrain. Great little small town vibe with a decent size mountain. Only bummer is my Ikon pass doesn’t work here. We like it so much we scrapped together enough to get a condo in town. Ironically we live in a well known ski town in southern Cali and we can’t get to Brian Head fast enough when we can. Good on ya B Head.

My partner and I had never been skiing but wanted to give it a try. We came to Brian Head bunny slopes for two days and got all our rentals at Georges in town (except for goggles which we got on amazon beforehand). The first day we had an intro group lesson with Richard Browning. There were about 6 people total in the class and Richard was an excellent instructor. He was really nice, knew what he was talking about, and made it fun. We learned how to carry skis the right way, take them on and off, how to stop, how to get up, turn, slow down, stop. By the end of the day we were just as good as most of the kids around. We were nervous about being adults and our first time on the slopes but the lesson and environment made us not feel embarrassed about our skill level. By the second day we were comfortable enough with our basic skills to try the Navajo trail. The food situation was very limited, think cafeteria options at airport prices. For vegetarians there was a salad, impossible burger, and cheese pizza. For vegans, maybe a yogurt parfait. There aren't really even good options in Brian Head to drive to if you want to risk loosing your good parking spot. Next time I'd pack ahead for lunch.

For my husband and two teen sons, we bought the all day summer activities pass ($50 each). They each did the mini zip line, the tubing hill, archery, and the bungee trampoline many times. Then my husband and one son rode to the top of the mountain to play a round of disc golf. They enjoyed the course (except for hole 14 that was a hike up). My teen sons liked it but it was definitely a hit with the older elementary/middle school crowd. (summer activities only available Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Been here 4-5 times already. My kids 4, 5, 7yo made their first runs here. Ski school at Brian Head resort by Navajo Lodge is superb. Coaches are professional, well mannered, patient. There’s new coaches every year and yet they keep up with highest level of doing what they do. Coach Oso is most famous there, I personally think he can teach an elephant to ski. In a day or two you and your family/ friends are at moderate level. There’s also a program for gifted skiers. Amazing!
Price? Nothing compare to other places. Hotels are clean and well maintained. Food is easy to find at nearby Parowan.
We are returning here every year now, at least once. Again, great people, great service.

Hi fellow skiers, I am planning a ski trip to Brian Head end of January, and would appreciate any suggestions for a one bedroom condo there, and how to contact the agency person who is renting it out. Thank you, Donna
I’m going in mid March, about 3 days after snow falls. Are chains required?
Also, how is the drive up the mountain from Las Vegas? How windy are the roads?
J0E2015

Chains or 4 wheel drive if it snows. March and April are known for some quick large spring storms that sneak up fast. Always a great idea to have 4 wheel drive our chains with you at all times when visiting Brian Head during the winter season. The drive from Vegas is beautiful! Heading up the mountain you can check the road conditions on the live cameras through downloading the UDOT app. Winds have never been a problem heading up the mountain road 143 unless it is snowing. Then the snow is more of an issue then the winds. Hope this helps.

I will be driving from Las Vegas in March. all I need is snow chains or snow cables? I don't have to 4 wheel drive? For someone who doesn't ski or snowboard is there a lot for us to do? A bar or lounge or fire pit to have drinks?

San Diego, CA25 contributions
Correct! Just chains for your car.
And yes, there’s a bar at the bottom of Giant Steps lift and fire pits at the other lodge by Chair 6. Also, there’s a snow tubing place at the mountain, too. Great for anyone! Enjoy.

Hi, Family of 8 coming from FLORIDA...we will be bringing our 4 older teenage boys up on 12/30/20. None of them have snowboarded/skied.. or even seen snow!! My husband was diagnosed with cancer June '17 and is not able to walk far so we will be spectating. Is there someplace 2 or 3 of us can sit that is out of the weather while our boys snowboard? (all things considered COVID...) we imagine seating may be limited. Is there anything we can do to secure seating? Thank you so much!

For anyone who has driven up from Southern California/Los Angeles area . . . is the drive relatively easy? Freeways the whole time until you exit? I was reading about the 14 mile drive up to Brian Head and wonderin gwhen it says it's steep - are we talking like on the drive to Big Bear Mountain steep or worse? I'd like to know what to expect for the mountain drive. Thank you!
Burke W
Brian Head, UT
Thanks for your great question. Yes, the drive to Brian Head is super easy - freeway all the way to exit 75 at Parowan, Utah, and then it's just a quick 14 mile drive to Brian Head on SR 143. The road up the canyon only has one short steep pitch near the top of the canyon, and the rest of the drive is a breeze. The State Road Department also does an excellent job of keeping the canyon road clear during winter snow conditions.
Thanks again for your question. We look forward to your visit.

We're planning on coming to Brian Head in April for a ski trip. I had heard that the elevation was high but didn't realize it was higher than Vail and now I'm a bit concerned. My husband and I and our kiddos had planned on driving from Los Angeles straight to Brian Head, but reading about slowly acclimating I'm concerned a bit. And, unforutnately, I have a friend who suffered a high altititude sickness tragedy in her family and that's in the back of my mind. Any insight, experience, would be appreciated. I'm going to talk with our pediatrician, too.

That was our concern too this past Christmas considering I had altitude sickness in Colorado before (attempted to get to the peak within 2 days of arriving to Denver). I was very scared but it went well. Our family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children, are from FL and got to Las Vegas where spent few days and then drove to UT. We visited both Brian Head and Eagle Point (our family liked Eagle Point way better by the way). We didn't stay near the slopes and had to drive about 30-40 minutes each morning - no altitude sickness! First day skiing we felt tired and short in breath a little but it was manageable. Brian Head is closing for a season April 12th this year. I personally wouldn't go there in April, but it's me.

How is the skiing in early December? Is there typically enough snow to have the whole resort open?
Burke W
Brian Head, UT
Thank you for your great question. Skiing in early December is a bit tricky to predict. Some years we have fantastic early-season snowfall, and other years are sometimes less favorable. So far this year, early-season snowfall has been a bit skimpy, but a significant storm is in the forecast for later this week. I would suggest you continue to follow our website for the latest conditions and plan your trip accordingly. Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer.

Howdy.
i have a few questions regarding websites used.
what website is good for telling you whether roads are closed or not due to weather around brianhead
Also
whats a good website that gives you a good snow forecast and report for brianhead
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Thank you for your questions Clint.
The best website to use for road conditions is the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) website . For Brian Head weather reports, I like using Weather Underground.
Thanks again for your questions. We hope to see you soon!

Hi there, we are a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids, 5yrs and 7 yrs) coming to brianhead for 3 days in jan next year
i have a couple of questions
i am coming from page, and i know its weather dependant, but is the drive north of kanab to brianhead a fairly mellow drive? it seems alot quicker than driving past hurricane but i it looks like alot of mountain driving.
also
because my kids will be 5 and 7, does that mean that they cant do lessons together unless we do a private lesson.
thanks
Burke W
Brian Head, UT
Thank you for your great questions.
Coming from Page, you have a couple of options to get to Brian Head. As you mentioned, driving through Hurricane during the winter months is a bit farther, but you do avoid potential winter road conditions. If weather conditions are favorable (which often times they are), the shortest route is to take Highway 89 to Highway 14 to Cedar City. From Cedar City, take Interstate 15 to exit 75, then it's just a short 15 mile drive to Brian Head.
Due to the age difference in your children, you would need to book a private lesson if you would like them in the same class. Our Tiny Tracks class is for ages 5 and 6, and our Mountain Explorers class is for ages 7 to 12. We have found that the 5 and 6 year old students tend to progress better if they are not grouped with the older students.
Thanks again for your questions. Please feel free to contact us if you need any additional information. We look forward to your visit!
Late season conditions? .... I'm thinking about coming to Brianhead mid April instead of Mammoth in order to save some money, since Brianhead is projected to still be open. I'll be with my 9 year old and don't need all of the runs Mammoth offers; also, Brianhead is larger than than my local resort which will be closed by April 15th, so I think we can appreciate it.
Considering Brianhead is still open, is it worth going, or are we going to be skiing on rocks?
Are many runs still open late season?
I'd spend about half as much as the Mammoth trip, so anything halfway decent will probably sale me on it.
Burke W
Brian Head, UT
Thanks for your great question!
Yes, we will be open this season until April 21st. We've had an outstanding snow year this season, and more snow is in the forecast. Spring skiing conditions are excellent! We have the highest base elevation of any ski resort in Utah, which provides us with fantastic late-season conditions. All lifts and runs with full snow coverage are expected to be open until closing day.
Thanks again for your great question. We look forward to your visit!
