About Utah Slickrock Guides
Hike with us in wild, remote Utah. We’re the authors of "Hiking from Here to WOW: Utah Canyon Country.” But we’ve decrypted many cross-country dayhikes we’ll never publicize. The scenery is national-park quality. And the solitude is delicious. Few hikers realize that Boulder is to slickrock hiking what Moab is to slickrock biking. What they miss here is astonishing. Let us show you.

Hiking with Craig was more than I ever expected it could be. He was very supportive of our pre-trip efforts to discuss possible hikes, based on our interests, ages and fitness levels. Because of a health issue, I was only able to experience one perfect hike and day with Craig. His knowledge of the area brought everything to life.....from his unique descriptions of the various slickrock areas, to the smallest detail or scent of desert flora. Craig has a soothing spirit. He is a knowledgeable, confident hiker. His love of, and respect for, Escalante Grand Staircase was inspirational. I look forward to planning future hikes with Slickrock Guides.

If you are looking to maximize your time hiking in the wild and gorgeous desert landscape of Escalante - you need to hire Skye and Craig! I just spent a week hiking with them and it was well worth it for these reasons: They know the area inside out - you will be going off the beaten path. For 4 of the 5 days we didn’t see a single other person out there. One day we encountered backpackers that had to go the long way to get to where Skye and Craig know a secret way to get to the good stuff They will adapt to your speed and what you want to do. I know for a fact they can hike much faster than I can but they spent the whole day adapted to my speed. Those who hike at all know how difficult that actually is! I said that I wanted variety in my 5 days and I really got to see 5 very different landscapes - from wingate cliffs, to pictographs, to whirling slick rock that looks like we are on another planet, to an unbelievable water rock on slick rock with towering canyon walls. They have great outdoor ethics. They take care to make routes to avoid damaging the delicate desert landscape. Even though I can navigate fairly well on my own and have done self led backpacking, climbing, and hiking - I still found this trip well worth it. Having experienced locals show you the area means you’ll maximize your time and solitude. I have been spoiled - I returned home to SLC and went hiking in the wasatch. I had gotten so used to the peace and solitude that I forgot how annoying a crowded trail was (people blasting music, asking for directions, offering unsolicited directions, etc). Go with Skye and Craig and you will truly experience the beauty of Escalante.

Two great days hiking. The vistas were spectacular and Craig expertly led us through a world we would not have had the confidence or expertise to roam through. He was patient, knowledgeable, interesting and interested. I would have no hesitation in recommending Slickrock Guides - you will be in a safe pair of hands.

This was everything we could have hoped for. Skye was a perfect guide. She was confident and, more importantly, confidence-inducing. We hiked over challenging terrain to breathtaking and ineffable places. It was just us and the slick rock for six hours above the Escalante canyon. Thank you.

I found Grand Staircase Escalante exceptionally beautiful yet intimidating to access until my experience with these Guides. The Copelands planned excellent hikes based on my hiking abilities and interests. Craig was an exceptional guide - kind, patient, respectful and safety oriented. Hiking in this beautiful and expansive place unfolded for me in a way I never expected and ranks at the top of unforgettable experiences, only possible by Craigs expert guidance.
