Jared and his team did an amazing job leading the the advanced canyoneering class. The course was a perfect mix of instruction and hands-on practice at a practice wall and in canyon. The instructor to student ratio was ~1 to 1 and every instructor was phenomenal. This is the perfect way to fortify your canyoneering knowledge and advance your skills to the next level.

We took the advanced class this year after having taken the basic class a couple of years ago. This class was excellent. Great instruction and practice at camp and then putting it all into action in actual canyons in the afternoon.

Very enjoyable - the whole class was based on-site at North Wash so no time wasted driving, It was a lot of fun and some hard work - especially for us over 55. Learned a lot of great techniques to get out of jams (potholes). Highly recommended if you are interested in canyoneering.

Dave, you and Greg were awesome. It was phenomenal having both of you back in class again. I hope that when I hit your age I am still out hiking and rappelling into canyons and enjoying life like you two are. It's a great sport and one that if you keep in decent shape you can keep doing for many years. Hope you guys get out and enjoy many of the canyons that are out there :)

I took the 3 day beginner course in North Wash. It seems like many of the competing canyoneering guides in the region offer one-day excursions for their intro/beginner courses, which didn't seem like nearly enough time to me to learn something as involved as canyoneering, and after taking the 3 day beginner course with NWO, I feel confident that I made the right decision going with them. Even after 3 days of very involved instruction, I feel like I'm just scratching the surface of what there is to learn. It can be a very risky activity without the proper knowledge, so getting proper instruction is absolutely vital. I was confident every second of this course that I was in good hands! There were 4 instructors for 10 students, so we received a lot of individual attention, and all of the instructors were experienced canyoneers who have been doing this for years, with plenty of knowledge to share. I had never been canyoneering before taking this course and was feeling nervous, but they did a great job of stepping me through the process and answering all of my questions. The first day was lecture/Q&A about safety, equipment, anchors, etc. to give us a theoretical understanding; the second day was practicing skills like rappelling and ascending on a small practice wall; and the third day was completing a beginner's canyon in the area to apply what we learned. For the amount of instruction received, it was a great value and absolutely worth it. The only small negative for me was that there is such a huge amount of information to cover, that the lessons had to be fast-paced out of necessity and I didn't always get a chance to practice as much as I wanted to, but I was also the least experienced person in the class, so I think the pace was right for the group as a whole, and I was still able to follow everything that was going on. I know enough to have a clear idea of what I still need to practice on my own at home before my next trip. The folks in class who had been canyoneering multiple times before this class also seemed to take a ton of information away from it, so it seems like it would be useful for people of all skill levels looking to fill in the gaps of their foundational knowledge. Highly recommended!

We took the Technical Course which was great for beginners! Jarred and his crew was exceptional explaining safety, gear, techniques, and an overall understanding of canyoneering for us newbies. The three-day course was perfectly paced and was well worth our money. I would highly recommend this course to anyone that is either new or anyone wanting to learn how to safely canyoneer.

The first day was a full day in class learning anchors, gear, how to find canyons, how to know the skill level needed, how to set up harness, etc.

The second day was a full day on the wall near Moab where we probably rappel 50 times. We learned how to set up the webbing, how to decend, how to save someone that is stuck on the wall, how to acend, and how to lock in place.

On the third day, we drove down to North Wash and put our skills to the test. We explored two canyons with a lunch break in between.

This was such an amazing experience and I am so glad I did this. Thank you, Jared, Tammy, Jeff, and Lisa for an amazing time.

Just wrapped up a beginner technical canyoneering course last week, and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough for both beginner and experienced folks wanting to hone their skills in the canyons.

The whole instructor team was VERY experienced and truly top-north, seamlessly catering to the needs of both the absolute beginners and intermediate folks. I have been through other similar courses (WFR, Swiftwater Rescue) and the quality of instruction and attention to detail is exactly what I was looking for. The group size, student/instructor ratio, and team dynamics were phenomenal for quality instruction.

I must mention too, at the end of the day we walked away with solid networking amongst our peers, which in itself is extremely valuable in this team-oriented sport. A+

This company also offers other classes aimed towards more advanced techniques and rescue rigging for canyons, and best believe I will be attending them too! Can’t wait!

Excellent basic canyoneering course. I had very limited experience and this is exactly what a "newbie" needs. The first classroom day makes sure that students have the background and basics. The second day on the wall allows for LOTS of hands-on practice with anchors/knots/blocks and basic rescue techniques of lowering and ascending. The final fun day in the canyon provides real world application of the skills we learned and practiced, as well as beautiful views and adventure to share with new friends.

Jared and his crew (Tammy and Lisa for our class) are knowledgeable and patient and entertaining - can't recommend this class enough. Looking forward to the advanced class after practicing my skills.

The level of skill and expertise that the instructor, Jared, has is incredible. And the pacing of the course was excellent. I wanted to be able to try the skills and techniques we discussed - and I got it. Plus, Jared revealed the solution to a couple of issues I had wondered about in the course of the ... um course.
This is advanced instruction for rescue situations at height. This is not a place for beginners or students who are lacking the basic fundamentals. Having said that, my favorite part was the hands on approach to the rescues that we did, coupled with the basic principles we learned in the first half day, but put through all variations to really find their uses.

Have you ever made a mistake setting up your ropes in a canyon? Have you ever come across another group in trouble? Have you ever wondered how you would get out of a bad situation? This course teaches you how to mitigate mistakes and rescue yourself and others in the backcountry. This is a must if you are serious about canyoneering. Jared and his team have extensive knowledge and experience teaching canyoneering techniques, from basic to advanced to rescue. They’re also a lot of fun to hang out with. This course is all hands on, in the field, with lots of scenarios and opportunities to practice. You will leave feeling confident in your newly learned abilities to build rope haul systems, piggy backs, lowering systems, pick offs, and problem solving with the gear you have. I highly recommend North Wash Outfitters for their knowledge, passion, and ability to teach these crucial skills.

Chris you were simply awesome jumping in and working the scenarios and challenges. Trying different techniques and working through the problems coming up with solutions. It was fun watching the "Ah Ha" moments and seeing the techniques taught come to life and work for the scenarios. I look forward to keeping in touch with you in the future and watching you progress in the sport.

I think this is an excellent course for those, like myself, who are interested in learning about canyoneering and how to do it safely. The three day format (one day classroom, one day skills building and one day exploring canyons) provides a solid foundation for students to venture be able to out on their own with confidence. Jared and his team excel at sharing their passion for the sport, attention to safety, and creating a fun learning experience. Can't recommend highly enough.

Great course! Jared is a very knowledgeable instructor and provides practical knowledge that is easily applied in the canyons. The other instructors helping teach the course were very friendly and helpful as well. One thing to consider is that although the website states that the course covers skills and techniques to run canyons through 4C rating, we did not really discuss or practice skills related to canyons with flowing water. This is not a criticism of the course as it is not practical given where this course is held in North Wash. Would highly recommend this course to those looking to expand their skill set for more advanced canyons!
