About
In 2005, the City of Wimberley embarked on a mission to save the Blue Hole from the threat of residential development. After an unprecedented fundraising effort, the land was purchased by the City for use as a community park. The City of Wimberley has since developed the 126-acre park for the enjoyment of residents, visitors, and future generations. It includes much needed recreational facilities for our growing community and showcases a true gem in the Texas Hill Country. The park includes approximately 4.5 miles of trails, picnic areas, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court, amphitheater, and the Blue Hole Swimming Area. The entire park is open to visitors within the regular operating hours, however, swimming is only allowed during the designated swimming season. The park balances the needs of the community while preserving and restoring the historic Blue Hole and surrounding ecosystems.

The Blue Hole requires reservations and you can select either a morning reservation for an afternoon, or as in our case, we paid for the full day. The easiest parking spots fill up fast so get there early! There is parking farther away, a little walk so if you have a cooler/chairs/tubes I'd suggest a rolling cart (like the soccer mom wagon). The park is immaculately kept, no alcohol or smoking. Beautiful grounds. There are picnic tables you can reserve but we often take blankets/an umbrella & chairs & set up absolutely anywhere. There are bathrooms & changing rooms. There is not usually soap in the bathrooms so I bring a small hand soap pump of my own. This is family friendly. And I've seen large groups of young adults who bring volley balls/beach balls, footballs to throw around. Y'all this is a TX treasure & should not be missed. Oh, the water is cold...so, so cold b/c it is from a spring. This is shocking to visitors! lol. Bring goggles or snorkels b/c there are fish to be seen in the deeper areas. There are 2 rope swings that everyone jumps from, one shallower than the other. You will love it here!

Before visiting Wimberley I check to see what parks they had in the vicinity and found this one. So that was our first stop late morning before it got to hot.
It is a short distance from the main square to the turn off and a sign indicates the turn. Then a short drive to the parking lot which is not very large but there were a few spaces left.
From there you can get on the main trail and we stopped in at the first building and noticed it had a sign for tickets.
Curious we stopped to find out and were asked if we had reservations. We told the attendant that we were just going to walk the nature trails and she indicated a path to the overlook to see the swimming hole.
We found the overlook easily and it was a nice view of the creek swimming area which also had a nice large green lawn area that people had picnic blankets laid out in different areas. This was allowing some social distancing for this type of activity.
There were also stone picnic tables so assumed you have to make reservations to go to that area but not sure about cost or time limit and such.
I checked online but didn't find it on the website.
It is a nice area though to relax and enjoy the river.
We continued on our way down the nature trails which are marked well with signage and go in many directions.
We wound around to a small playground area which had restrooms and more picnic tables but this was all closed due to the COVID at present.
Further around was a soccer field and more picnic tables and more trails.
The trails are wide and mulched so easy walking with an ample amount of shade.
We will definitely go back here when visiting this area as it is a good way to get some quiet exercise.

If I could give more stars I would. We booked from 9am -1pm w family ranging from 5-55. It was the perfect amount of time for our group. I could have stayed all day. Plenty of shade from the cypress trees. Bring a wagon if you’re taking in a cooler, it’s a quick walk down from the checkin counter but parking might be farther depending on what time you get there. We’ll be back ASAP

I was very disappointed after trying to buy tickets online to go. Knowing I had to make a reservation for the visit, I purchased my ticket a week in advance, and when I was only allowed to purchase one ticket, I figured my husband and I would clear it up when we got there. We drove five hours for our stay in Wimberley, and when we arrived yesterday, Blue Hole was our first destination (we actually booked our cabin exclusively around being able to go to Blue Hole). When we got there, I found out I had purchased the last ticket for that day online, and they would not sell us ONE more for my husband and I to go in. Even more, I was not allowed a refund because you have to request a refund a week in advance, and it’s only for 75% of the cost of the ticket. Very disappointed.

We tried to visit the blue hole in May 2020. We were given a time slot and paid for my whole family to go. The park closed and we were told by staff we could return anytime In the 2020 Season to use our “rain check” tickets. We came back to Wimberley at the end of July 2020 and rented a house so we could go to the Blue Hole. Tried to schedule our rain check ahead of time, before we even got to Wimberley, and were DENIED, saying their slots were full. Come back anytime huh? I called the office again and a male employee on the phone stated to me there were no supervisors to talk to and nothing we could do about it. I then found the cell phone number for the City of Wimberley Parks and Rec department head and called. I got his voicemail every single time I called. I left a nice message requesting he call me back, but never got a return phone call! Now we are here in Wimberley, can’t go AND the city is banking our money... Have no way to get ahold of anyone and no way to get our money back. What a ripoff! City of Wimberley Parks Department should return phone calls and reserve slots for rain check customers!

Great time swimming at Blue Hole! Our party ranged in ages from preschoolers to teens to adults- everyone had a fun time at the Blue Hole! The water was beautiful, though cold, and shaded by a cypress tree canopy. There was a shallow area where little ones could stand. Deeper sections to float in tubes or do the rope swings. Park reservation max did not make it feel too crowded- families stayed in their own groups. Recommend for a picturesque Blanco River swimming spot!

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The water was clear and cool, the cypress trees were incredible. My family had the best time, and the limited reservations made it less crowded which was perfect. My kids, who are 10 and 6 loved it but did need lifejackets for the deep sections. My only complaint is the smaller rope swing was closed off and my kids were too short for the big rope, so they were disappointed they weren't able to do either of them.

Perfect! Just went this past week for part of a girl’s weekend. We booked the half day from 9-1 and it couldn’t have been more perfect. They’re allowing the perfect amount of people so there’s plenty of space to spread out on land and in the water. Hopefully they keep the reservation policy forever because it was a perfect experience! Not too crowded, very relaxing. Will definitely visit again. Tips: don’t forget floats or noodles. The water is deep and we were unprepared. We went to three different places in town looking for floats and they were hard to come by. You can also bring chairs, coolers, etc.

We LOVED the Blue Hole swimming area! Yes you have to reserve, but I think that's part of what makes it so great. You're not elbow to elbow with people and can enjoy the swimming area a lot better. The water is super fresh and you're in the shade the whole time. They have two swings to jump in the water, which is pretty deep in that area. The grassy area to set up your stuff is only a few steps away. Super family friendly, absolutely loved this place and will be going back.

Beautiful place to visit. Great for the whole family. Unfortunately, we came during spring break from Dallas(on a Friday) and the place was “closed for a private event”. You could not get close to the water. We were not happy about it and of course we were not the only ones. At least they could clearly advertise this fact for those planning to visit.
Im not sure closing a place like this for a private event is the right thing to do...not happy about it. That said worth the visit.
