- tk3232Sugar Land, Texas4,269 contributionsBeautiful park, just a jewel of natureBlue Hole Regional Park is located off of Old Kyle Road (the entrance is just after passing a cemetery) a few blocks from Wimberley Square, the town center. Of course, this is the crown jewel of all the Wimberley Parks. Beyond the iconic swimming hole (located at Jacob's well natural area), it includes 3,5 miles of trails, picnic area, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court and an amphitheater. While there is plenty to do outside of the water, the swimming area is the true attraction of the park. Towering cypress trees overhang the banks of the chilly natural spring- fed Cypress Creek to crate the perfect to beat the heat in summer time. Reservations are required to swim. We visited this park at the end of April and the park was quiet and deserted, we could enjoy nature, but soon in May swimming will begin and there will be noise and laughter!! Open daily 8am - 8 pm.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 30, 2024
- Pioneer414166461071 contributionClean and deep swimming hole for the summerWe just went for swimming here. May 19th 2024. we only need reservation if we want to swim. So, I made the reservation couple of weeks early for Sunday afternoon 2-6. They allow only limited tickets, so there is not too much crowd. Parking was full though. we park on the extended parking area and walked to the entrance. We saw huge mosquitos while we walk to the entrance and there were there in the entrance as well. but inside the park, there were none. not even a single mosquito. There are enough space to set your things on the grassy area and good space for you to swim and jump from the rope. it was awesome. the water was a bit cold but once inside the water, its comfortable. the area where the jump is set, is very deep. the water is very clean and clear. we enjoyed very much. we will go again.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten May 21, 2024
- Kyungja K2 contributionsShady and clean. We had a Sunday pm reservation. Free parking is readily available and the walk to the river is short and quick. I read it somewhere that there are mosquitoes to/from the river but there were none when we were there. The park is well kept. I think the city of Wimberly is doing the right thing by limiting the number of admissions. The cedar trees provide the excellent shades all around. The water was so clear. They have a few ropes to jump into the deep spots. My college age sons just love doing just that. There was no shower but the bathroom/changing room was clean. We had such a great time that we plan on going back before kids go back to school/Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 25, 2024
- elchacoHouston, Texas1,037 contributionsGreat Family FunThis is our favorite swimming hole out of all the ones we've been to in Texas! We've done both half day and all day reservations, and you really can't go wrong with either. The water is clear and refreshing, and the rope swings provide tons of fun! We've rented the tables in the past and taken food to make it an all day adventure. Blue Hole will continue to be our go to to beat this summer heat!Hi elchaco, thank you for the glowing review! We're delighted to hear you had such a positive experience at Blue Hole. Your satisfaction is our top priority, and we're grateful for your support. - Tamara F7 contributionsGreat Swimming Hole on a Hot DayBecause you must have a reservation, the swimming hole does not have too many people. Gorgeous area, cold water and a pleasant vibe! Make sure you bring something to sit on when you get out of the water. Not much grass left due to foot traffic.Hi Tamara, thank you for the glowing review! We tried to visit the blue hole in May 2020. We were given a time slot and paid for my whole family to go. The park closed and we were told by staff we could return anytime In the 2020 Season to use our “rain check” tickets. We came back to Wimberley at the end of July 2020 and rented a house so we could go to the Blue Hole. Tried to schedule our rain check ahead of time, before we even got to Wimberley, and were DENIED, saying their slots were full. Come back anytime huh? I called the office again and a male employee on the phone stated to me there were no supervisors to talk to and nothing we could do about it. I then found the cell phone number for the City of Wimberley Parks and Rec department head and called. I got his voicemail every single time I called. I left a nice message requesting he call me back, but never got a return phone call! Now we are here in Wimberley, can’t go AND the city is banking our money... Have no way to get ahold of anyone and no way to get our money back. What a ripoff! City of Wimberley Parks Department should return phone calls and reserve slots for rain check customers!

I was very disappointed after trying to buy tickets online to go. Knowing I had to make a reservation for the visit, I purchased my ticket a week in advance, and when I was only allowed to purchase one ticket, I figured my husband and I would clear it up when we got there. We drove five hours for our stay in Wimberley, and when we arrived yesterday, Blue Hole was our first destination (we actually booked our cabin exclusively around being able to go to Blue Hole). When we got there, I found out I had purchased the last ticket for that day online, and they would not sell us ONE more for my husband and I to go in. Even more, I was not allowed a refund because you have to request a refund a week in advance, and it’s only for 75% of the cost of the ticket. Very disappointed.

Great time swimming at Blue Hole! Our party ranged in ages from preschoolers to teens to adults- everyone had a fun time at the Blue Hole! The water was beautiful, though cold, and shaded by a cypress tree canopy. There was a shallow area where little ones could stand. Deeper sections to float in tubes or do the rope swings. Park reservation max did not make it feel too crowded- families stayed in their own groups. Recommend for a picturesque Blanco River swimming spot!

One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. The water was clear and cool, the cypress trees were incredible. My family had the best time, and the limited reservations made it less crowded which was perfect. My kids, who are 10 and 6 loved it but did need lifejackets for the deep sections. My only complaint is the smaller rope swing was closed off and my kids were too short for the big rope, so they were disappointed they weren't able to do either of them.

We visited the area at the end of February during the week so the park wasn't very crowded. We strolled over to the water where there are huge cypress trees and deep blue water in spots. The rope swings were abandoned then but I bet they would be so fun in the summer to swing out into the cold water. There are also many walking trails in the park too.

Great place to take a break from triple-digit summer heat! Shaded, cool spring fed swimming hole and clean, well maintained facility. The water entrances are a little rustic though do to the cypress bank profile, but a great old-fashioned swimming hole. Since the city park manages access it is not too crowded and a great place for all ages and families to take a cool swim or swing into one of the deeper holes.

Beautiful place to visit. Great for the whole family. Unfortunately, we came during spring break from Dallas(on a Friday) and the place was “closed for a private event”. You could not get close to the water. We were not happy about it and of course we were not the only ones. At least they could clearly advertise this fact for those planning to visit.
Im not sure closing a place like this for a private event is the right thing to do...not happy about it. That said worth the visit.

Perfect! Just went this past week for part of a girl’s weekend. We booked the half day from 9-1 and it couldn’t have been more perfect. They’re allowing the perfect amount of people so there’s plenty of space to spread out on land and in the water. Hopefully they keep the reservation policy forever because it was a perfect experience! Not too crowded, very relaxing. Will definitely visit again. Tips: don’t forget floats or noodles. The water is deep and we were unprepared. We went to three different places in town looking for floats and they were hard to come by. You can also bring chairs, coolers, etc.

One of the highlights of our recent anniversary trip was to visit the Blue Hole Park. What a wonderful treasure that the folks in Wimberley have preserved. You must secure a pass from the city recreation department but its well worth it. We floated in the magnificently clear blue-green water for about 3.5 hours and will always remember this spot as being special. Its very cool but you get used to it quickly, especially on a hot summer day. Will definitely try to enjoy this special place again!

Is an ID required for swimming reservations? There is no ticket transfer option or cancellations allowed, so if I give a neighbor my passes would the QR code in the confirmation email be sufficient for them to get in?

I don’t remember seeing one on-site. There might be something up at the front, but definitely not anything near the water. I suggest you purchase a small cigarette lighter run air pump and inflate via the car in the parking lot. Many of the air pumps nowadays can do car tires as well as floaties

Are you able to easily get an Uber /Lyft to here and from here from Austin? Traveling and will not have a car

Can you easily get a wagon down the path to the swimming hole? I'd rather pack all of our things in a wagon and make one trip from the car to the park.
Written August 12, 2019
Yes, you can easily walk a wagon from parking to the swimming area.

Is it hard to get in and out of the water/ slippery?
Written July 30, 2019
I think they have installed some ladders in places. Others you may use tree roots. I would say in some places, yes. Others, no.
Written July 30, 2019
How long is the walk from the parking lot to the Blue Hole?
Written November 10, 2018
Not long at all. Of course if your at the far end of the parking lot its longer but its a surprisingly short walk. Maybe 200 yds?
