If you find yourself on Hwy 90 in West Texas, this is a great piece of public art that will give you an opportunity to stretch your legs. In the middle of the Chihuahuan desert, is a public art display in the form of a retail building with the 2005 Prada collection of shoes and purses on display. Over the last 50 years, Marfa has become an art oasis in the desert and the Prada is one of its must sees. This was the first thing we did on our 5 couple spring break visiting 5 National parks and we all enjoyed. We passed it twice and both times, it was full of visitors. The building is perfect for pictures. In addition the fence that surrounds display as doubled as a places for lovers to seal their love with a lock. However, the real art is the way you use the building to capture your own photos. It could just be the isolation; however, it is probably the best streetside artwork I've had ever seen. Again you simply need to stop and enjoy.

I wouldn’t drive too far to see this but if you’re nearby it’s worth a visit. It’s actually 35 miles or so from Marfa. I was surprised to learn that they stocked it Prada bags and shoes from the 2005 collection when they built it in 2005. They must have spent a small fortune on the project. It’s pretty quirky but I got a kick out of seeing it in person. Very original.

This art installation is extremely interesting from a visual and cultural point of view. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. And very unexpected - even when you know it is there.
This is an experience not to be missed if you are visiting West Texas.
I must say that the installation is very thought provoking.

It's definitely an intriguing piece of art, to have a solo building in the middle of nowhere. I can now say that I've seen this unique Prada "store," but for me at least I got the picture then I was good to go and don't necessarily have any reason to come back. Doesn't help that it's not really IN Marfa, but actually 45 minutes west of Marfa in Valentine. Be careful to stay away from the tracks because they are active with Amtrak. But, I'm glad this (and the Mystery Lights) have made Marfa a destination, because it has blossomed into a cool art conglomerante and I much more enjoyed all the galleries and shopping within downtown Marfa itself, so thanks Prada Marfa!

On my recent road trip I noticed I was going to be driving by this piece of art so of course I made the quick stop. It was commissioned by a non-profit called Ballroom Marfa, so that is why it is Prada Marfa. It is actually a couple of miles outside of the tiny town of Valentine and over 30 miles from both Marfa and Van Horn, so it's the middle of nowhere. I stopped took a couple of photos and moved on.

I've seen so many people/friends post this, we just had to stop. The sky was giving us a beautiful backdrop. Would like to know more about the history of the locks on the fence. I know this happens in other places, but wondered who started it in Marfa.

A visit to the Prada Marfa is like going to NYC and not seeing the Empire State Building. It is on the way to Marfa from El Paso, or a 20 minute drive from Marfa to the Prada Store. Bring a lock to profess your love on the Prada fence!

A definite stop on the bucket list of life. 2005 Prada collection on the side of a desolate Texas highway? Uh yes.
Dress to impress and bring friends. This photo shoot in the middle of nowhere will be for the books.

I stopped here on the way to Big Bend National Park. It's a fine stop if you pass it on your way somewhere but I wouldn't go too far out of my way to see it. It took 5 minutes to look in the windows and take a picture. That's it.

I took a road trip through Texas & stopped by the Padra in Marfa cause it was along the way. It's in the middle of nowhere. Can't go inside as it's a prop store. Good for a quick photo op along my road trip.

Is this place always busy? Are there always people trying to take pics?

People come and go and it depends how long you are there. It was helpful for us that another family had stopped as they snapped a few pics for us. Otherwise it was not crowded at all.

I was there 15 Jan 2018 and all ok. Graffiti was 2014.
Nothing in the news unless I missed it.
Fyi Valentine is around 30 miles or so from Marfa . Go thru the town and you think you missed it and suddenly there it is in the middle of nowhere.
Hope you enjoy it. For me I couldn't see what the fuss was about.
If you want something impressive go the the McDonald Observatory Star gazing party outside Fort Davis. Tues, Thu and Sat. Enjoy.
