Terry is an excellent guide! My husband really wanted to go on an ATV tour, so I signed us up. When booking I specifically mentioned it was my first time ever on an ATV. Terry was welcoming, and gave a good safety overview. The equipment all looked really new and was in excellent condition. Terry watched and guided me on things like turning and tips for getting over uneven terrain. He spaced the group out well so hopefully the more experienced folks in front still got a good drive. My husband tailed and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I never felt unsafe, and once I got the hang of how sensitive the accelerator was, really enjoyed myself. It is a different way to explore some desert terrain.

My family and I came to the Big Bend area and we had lots of fun at Far Flung Adventures. We did the jeep tour on Monday morning, rented three ATVs with a tour guide on Tuesday morning, and rented their jeep and went on our own Wednesday. Everyone at Far Flung Adventures were very friendly and helpful, Randy and Randolph were very informative and accommodating. They also have a nice selection there of hats and T-shirts. I highly recommend anyone visiting the Big Bend area to stop by Far Flung Adventures and see things most people don’t see off the road. You want to call in advance to make reservations and check to see what hours they are open. We will definitely do this again the next time we visit the Big Bend area.

If you are looking for a GREAT and affordable place to stay in the Big Bend area, or just an outfitter for your adventures, look no further than Far Flung Outdoor Center.
My husband & I and two friends just left the Big Bend Casitas after a great week-long stay. From the point of planning our trip to our checkout, every interaction we had with Far Flung was top notch! Greg, Valynda, & Caitlynn patiently answered all our questions and helped us choose the activities that best fit our party of four.
The casitas are well planned, stocked, and comfortable. We actually brought more than we needed to, based on cabins we have rented elsewhere.
I can’t say enough good things about their facility: the large grilling station with side burner and commercial grill (clean and much better than cooking meals inside the casitas!), shaded picnic tables, Bocce ball court, horseshoes, corn hole, fire pit, sparkling clear pool. We loved their plant identification tags! (They have thought of everything!)
We were in Big Bend to ride the area on our motorcycles, but booked two adventures with Far Flung. First was a full day River Float. Zulu, our guide, was skilled, knowledgeable, and FUN. He was obviously very experienced and also good at reading, teaching, and interacting with our group. Our raft traveled with another, guided by Levee. The two guides worked well together, making for a fun trip for all of us!!
Our second adventure was a 3 hour Jeep tour to the Buena Suerte mining ghost town. Randy was our knowledgable guide. Aside from educating us on the mine itself, Randy taught us about numerous plants, showing how some were used for medicinal use.
One last comment (compliment). I am so impressed with the cleanliness of Far Flung! I dropped a little water on the floor when unloading the contents of our cooler into the fridge. The paper towel I used to wipe the floor was totally white after the wipe up. Y’all, this is remarkable given the dry, dusty terrain! And did I mention the T-shirt / hoodie selection?!!

FABULOUS CREW, informative, sweet, funny — would highly recommend! Though we had to cut the trip short due to inclement weather, our guides took us through slight rapids, and handled our complete lack of experience with grace. We’ve been to big bend multiple times, but this experience was the most memorable.
(I wish I remembered the gentleman’s name who drove us back to the headquarters. He was a hilarious dude with striking eyes, terrible dad jokes, was the bird expert on the tour, and I believe was from California – – – that guy did really well! Five stars.)

We stayed 2 nights in the casitas, took a full day jeep tour of Big Bend with Randy who was excellent guide, and we did the half day kayak tour. So we really took advantage of Far Flung's activities & were very impressed with everything we experienced!!
This is a first class operation and I would recommend any of the things that they offer. The casitas were immaculate & so very comfortable. The kayak tour was such fun to be out in nature and soak in the sunshine! Randy was the perfect tour guide and loves the area & was a great ambassador for the Big Bend area. We were there at the end of March & the weather was perfect.
We were able to experience dining at the Starlight Theater on a Saturday nite which was great fun with live music!!
Big Bend is a great place to visit & beautiful in its own way!!

This was a lot of fun, it was educational, and it was a great way to see the natural beauty along our souther border.
This group did a great job of addressing COVID-19 concerns. Everybody drove to the put in spot in their own transportation. It was a 30-40 minute drive to and from, so make sure you have plenty of gas. Participants were expected to be masked up as directions were given and lifejackets and wet bags were handed out. When we were finished, one driver was transported back (masked up) to the parking area at the put in spot.
The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. It is an easy paddle, so you can really take in everything around you. If the water is high there are 5-6 sets of rapids that will thrill you and challenge you to stay in the kayak. If the water levels are lower (summer) there are fewer challenging spots. The guides do a great job of preparing you to take the best path down the river.
There is at least one stop for snacks and water bottle refill.
I highly recommend taking this half day kayaking trip.

From half day Jeep Tours of Big Bend to Multi Day Trips in the Canyons of Big Bend along the Rio Grande, you can't beat Far Flung Outdoor Center. They are without a doubt the most experienced, best run and have the best guides and equipment in the area.
From the excellent guides to the hands on owners you will have one of the best experiences of your life when you join FFOC for any type of adventure.
We have been repeat customers for many years and have experienced a wide variety of their trip offerings and have enjoyed every one of them.
The equipment is always clean and in excellent shape. The food and customer service is always on point.

We took both a canoe trip and a Jeep trip in Big Bend National Park. Guides were knowledgeable and patient (especially important with first time canoeing). Deli lunch, included in all day tours, hit the spot. They paid very close attention to the axiom “leave only footprints.” Office staff was helpful and friendly. Price was all inclusive (other than well earned tips to guides), which didn’t seem to be the case with other tour companies. I’m glad I booked both tours, since it temperature was in the high 90’s, rather than mid 80’s that had been forecasted when I made trip plans. That sort of put the kibosh on hiking.

Very well maintained property inside and out. We rented two casitas for our family of 6. Very clean units and well appointed. Each casita had two comfortable queens, a mud room, nice size bathroom and kitchen for the space. No stove, but they have a small refrigerator, regular sink, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, the exact utensils and plate ware needed for a short stay and a cast iron skillet. Outside we found a nice size back porch facing a court yard area. Each porch was complete with 2 rockers and a side table. The court yard has a perfect size pergola complete with 2 picnic tables, 2 gas grills, and an ice machine. Mostly shaded parking in the front under the short trees. In the back end of the property we found a nice pool with several shaded areas that included tables and lounge chairs. The pool was key for cooking off during the middle of the day. In addition to the pool there’s another area complete with tables and chairs, Jenga, horseshoes, and several other yard games. The property is centrally located to the Park entrance and Lajitas. Staff and the owner were very accommodating and engaged. We did the river float on kayaks with them as well. Very easy, informative, and convenient experience. We were very comfortable at Far Flung outdoor center!

This was my first visit to the Big Bend/Terlingua area, and since it was a short visit I decided the Big Bend Jeep Tour would be the best option to see the most while doing the least amount of research. It was a great idea! Bill welcomed us early in the morning to go over the day, and was so warm and welcoming and hilarious. After introductions, our guide Chris asked a how much time we had, if we were comfortable walking a bit and most importantly informed us that there were bathroom stops along the tour! This was a relief to hear.
The tour covered some great spots including Santa Elena Canyon, Mule Ears, Goat Mountain and an attempt at bear spotting which sadly, the bears were not out when we came around. Chris was knowledgeable and passionate about the plant life, history and landscape of Big Bend. This made a huge impact on our experience, we felt like we were being shown around by a friend rather than a tour guide. The jeep was so much fun, we were lucky and were the only two on the tour. There were plenty of opportunities to get out and get a closer look at everything, take photos (doin' it for the 'gram). The lunch set-up was perfect for a break and the homemade salsa was delicious!
Overall, I was very happy with the experience and highly recommend it for anyone that wants to experience Big Bend but may not have a lot of time in the area.

how far is this to the big bend to go hiking?
Written February 27, 2024
B/B Maverick Park entrance (fee) is 10 minutes. The Nat’l park has an abundant amount of different hiking trails to choose from. The free hiking trails inside BB are easy, moderate, difficult and extreme.
Far Flung offers jeep or Atv tours. I did the Kayak the Rio Grande with F/F and it was outstanding.
Written February 27, 2024
We were there in late October. The sun gets hot after noon, but the mornings were quite cold, in the 30s. The Rio Grande's water was not cold. Read Blistered Soul's review above. Good advice for the river trip, or any other outdoor adventures there.

On overnight river trips, do we bring our own food for dinner or ....what would be expectations for dining along the river?
Written May 30, 2019
All meals are included. Check out the website. They have a good list of inclusions and what you're expected to bring.

What is the cost of an overnight on the river with Far Flung Adventures? How do you know when the river will be running deep enough?
Written October 22, 2018
You would need to contact Far Flung for the cost of the overnight river trip. Regarding water depth, that is also a question that Far Flung would need to answer for you.

Terlingua has at least half dozen good restaurants. Ranging from breakfast to dinner. If you stay in the cabins they have kitchens and there is a wonderful little grocery store that seems to carry whatever the locals request. It is worth visiting on its own because you won't believe what all they have stocked.
