Don't go there if you even think it's going to rain, in fact, might as well be prepared to be stuck there for the duration.

A very scenic trail close to Terlingua that borders a volcanic ridge with craggy cliffs and huge volcanic boulders that are often filled with myriads of gaseous bubble-holes. There are great views of the Chisos Mountains and quite a few Indian pictographs to photograph. Lots...More

Shorter trail to see some petroglyphs, but the fallen boulders are much more impressive. Make sure you bring water. Apparently usually deserted, I did run across a park ranger doing some surveying. Getting there can be a bit confusing but follow the most well worn...More

If you are not a regular hiker watch out for these trails that seem easy, but they are very rocky and include going up hill and down hill. Some parts are very narrow. Don't be caught without water.

We loved going over to the Indian Head Trail. No one else was there and we got to climb all over the rocks. You have to go about a mile down the trail before you find the old Indian markings.

A nice hike that takes you back in time. See petroglyph on boulders of beautiful colors. Very little lives there now because of white men, but you can see the creek that provided fresh spring water to live.

Interesting petroglyphs to see. Amazing to see all the fallen rocks. You will also see the 'stove' or area where they crushed herbs and spices. Well worth a hike to see it.

The trail is accessed from Indian Head Road beside Big Bend Resort, but the trail is actually located in Big Bend National Park. I suppose they don't advertise it in order to minimize vandalism. The hike is very easy and not very long. Just keep...More

Easy access back behind the Motor Inn, as they like to call the motel and gas station at 118 & 170. Dirt road, but easy enough for cars, unless it rains, then don't risk the possible slimy mud. High ruins, giant low rock overhangs you...More

We did just fine in a Ford Flex which is kind of like a mini van. I suppose you might use caution if you've recently had rain ... not very likely there.
