- BonedigERPhoenix, Arizona10 contributionsAwesome tasting experience and serviceJust got home from a very cold weather visit to the San Antonio area and had to write a review for Pedernales Cellars. After visiting Fredericksburg, we stopped at another winery (Becker) in the area and had a less than pleasant tasting experience. Wanting to give the Texas Hills wineries another try before heading back to San Antonio, we decided to visit Pedernales. Although it was late in the day, about 90 minutes from their advertised closing time, we were greeted at the door by a friendly hostess who asked if we had reservations. We did not and would have fully understood if they could not accommodate us, but we were still welcomed in and were introduced to Jeanine (I hope I got her name right) at the tasting counter. Jeanine took the time to ask what types of wine we enjoyed and spoke of the varietals that Pendernales was known for. My wife and I were pleased with Jeanine's customer service, knowledge of the wines we were tasting and the spot on description of the various notes each wine had to offer. We found her to be extremely pleasant and enjoyed conversing with her. We were able to speak with Jeanine in depth about each wine we tasted and she was truly interested on what we felt and tasted with each. We have been doing wine tastings for many years in California wine country and weren't sure what to expect from Texas wine. We were pleasantly surprised. The delicious wines, Graciano was our favorite, and time spent with Jeanine made this the most enjoyable tasting experience we have ever had. Hat's off to Pedernales and Jeanine for more than making up for our bad experience at another winery and inspiring us to come back to the area and definitely visit them again soon. Highly recommended.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 16, 2024
- Voyager763614Skiatook, Oklahoma123 contributionsVery respectable Texas wines and well done tastingsVery nicely done tasting with Forbes on a Sunday morning. We had reservations but were able to get seated immediately despite being a bit early. I do think the reservations were helpful as there were not many staff on duty. Forbes poured us at least 6 different wines, both white and red. Despite being primarily interested in the (red) Tempernillo we ended up being most impressed with the (white) Viognier. Beautiful setting for this tasting room, I imagine it will be gorgeous in the spring and summer. A bit off the beaten path but worth the drive. We ended up joining the wine club which I totally did not expect to do.Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 19, 2024
- bikerbabe2014Dublin, Ireland344 contributionsPleasurable at PedernalesThis was our first experience of Texas Wines and we were not disappointed. A beautiful setting with great views from a well maintained deck area, this was a lovely experience. The tasting menu was good and gave an informative overview of the best of their wines. I especially liked the stories behind the Over the Moon and Far side of the Moon. Great Wines. Would highly recommend and hope to return when we visit the US again.Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 20, 2024

Visited here post-COVID reopening, so we were aware of the social distancing requirements. As a group of friends, we made reservations and arrived on time. We were literally the only group in the tasting room and there was only one other group out on the patio. Our attendant was completely disinterested in us and acted like we were a bother when we asked any questions or tried to have a friendly conversation. However, the wine was very good and we bought 6 bottles and an another full glass each, after which we were directed to drink our wine outside. We took a few photos and settled at a table on the patio, far away from the other group. Moments later, a young woman ran up to us and said patio tables were for reserved tastings only and said, “you can go sit on those rocks out there and drink your wine.” Really? There were 3 cars in the parking lot and we had just spent over $300 in wine and you can’t let us sit on a mostly empty patio for 15 minutes? We will not be visiting here again or drinking your wine, no matter how good it is. We relayed this information to another winery we visited and the staff there were also horrified at our treatment at Pedernales.

My teenage daughter, her best friend and my best friend who happens to be my daughter's best friend's Mom took a girls day trip to Fredericksburg for lunch and shopping. It was a great day eating lunch, shopping, and getting fresh air. We all understand we are still in a COVID environment with social distancing. Outside walking the street some people were free of masks and some people were wearing masks. Trying to be normal outside. However, in the stores everyone wore masks since the shops are smaller. On our way home we stopped at Pedernales Cellars as I remember enjoying their wine during a wine tasting several years ago with my friend. Usually, they are closed when I visit Fredericksburg so was happy they were open. We approached the main building and they had two tables outside, where they were transacting business. Our group was at least 20 feet from the stand outside where people were placing their orders. There were two groups purchasing wine at the tables. Remember, we are outside. An employee loudly pointed to our group and told us we needed to put masks on. We put our masks on even though we were not near anyone. However, he shouted loudly a second time that we did not put on our masks correctly. Like he invented the mask placement policy? Not sure why we continued to purchase wine, since we were being treated poorly from a rude person. Apparently, they are too uppity to sell their wine to the public.
We will not be spending money at Pedernales again. There are over 90 wineries in the area with nice staff, where we would rather spend money.

Pedestals Cellars was by far the best winery we saw in the Fredericksburg area. The wine was outstanding, the atmosphere was exceptional, and the presentation by Erik was superb. The vibe and view alone would have me returning, but the wines really are the best - full of complex favors and diverse blends. Try them on your next trip to Fredericksburg. Plan to stay for several hours to do a tasting and just enjoy the total vibe. The property is a little off the beaten path but well worth the trip.

Went today to P/U our Fall/Winter wine order since missing the pickup party due to weather. With much delight, Brenna was our pourer and information specialist for each of the tastings. Her effervescent personality and details to the blend of each wine made out brief stay fun and enjoyable.
For those who enjoy a glass(or two)Pedernales Cellars should be your first tasting in the Fredericksburg area. Situated on an expansive sloping hill, its an enjoyable place to sit, relax and expand your pallet with the variety of wines. Especially in the summer months their events should be on your calendar right now.
A great time again.

Even though we didn't have reservations, they were able to work us in for a tasting. The wine is great, the staff is friendly, and the tasting room has a beautiful view. I would recommend visiting but do try to make a reservation as they are trying to distance people and stay Covid safe.

Go there about 2 times a year from Houston for several years now. This last weekend we visited and found the front door is now a no entry because they have placed plants in front. They have a side entrance where a hostess is outside waiting to take your name and asks if we have been there before. It was like dont go inside we will bring it out to you. She asked for my name and I was in the system and she said you order so and so and I said yes. She then said would you like to reorder the same I said. She said, we will bring it out to you. Like not wanting you to enter establishment because of wine tastings going on. I wont be going back. Not welcoming, only there for you $.

My fiancé and I drove out to taste wines for our wedding dinner. We were very disappointed to be turned away, 45 minutes before their closing time due, even though not busy, to their rules of not serving guests for tastings less than one hour before closing.
Disappointed, we left to search for other Texas wines suitable for our wedding.

We arrived a few minutes after our reservation, but were seated shortly after arrival. Everyone wore a mask until seated. We had ordered a cheese tray, but our wine server had to be reminded. Tasting includes a nice variety of their wines, but only our friends purchased any wine. Sitting on their lovely deck while tasting wine was a treat. Weather was perfect, and the deck is nicely shaded by pin oak trees. Views of the hill country are very good. This was the only winery we visited in the hill country, but we passed many wineries along the way out of Fredericksburg.

We went to so many and they all charged different prices. I think that one was $15.

If you book with one of the local wine tour companies, it is possible to be picked up at your hotel and driven to Pedernales Cellars as well as other local wineries. It is also possible to buy at ticket and get on the 290 Wine Shuttle at the Convention and Visitor Bureau at 302 E. Austin Street in Fredericksburg. Since one of our owners is Swedish, I would love to know where you are traveling from to visit the Texas Hill Country. We look forward to your visit.
