Ila Loetscher, the "Turtle Lady of South Padre Island", originally formed our organization to save the Kemp's ridley sea turtle in 1977. Now we are a sea turtle hospital with a mission to rehabilitate and release any injured sea turtles, increase awareness concerning their safety and habitat, and assist with conservation efforts for all sea turtle species. We are funded by donations, grants and gift shop proceeds--

We really enjoyed seeing the turtles that have been rescued and we got to see how the ones that can't be returned to their habitat are thriving in their new home. It's really sad to see the damage that ordinary things we use can cause these beautiful creatures!

It was a great experience and the people who work there were so helpful and very friendly. They didn't make you feel rushed.....just that you enjoy yourself. I also did all my Christmas shopping there.

My husband and I enjoyed this as much as our 16 month old did. A wealth of information and it's pretty amazing what the people here do for the turtles and local ecosystem. They are saving these turtles and giving them a second (and some a third or fourth) chance to survive. Learning more about the turtles and what the... More

The staff and volunteers are what makes this place special. Their knowledge of the turtles and stories about their rescue and rehabilitation are interesting to hear. It was worth the short time we spent there.

Stopped by this free admission facility on a weekend and enjoyed seeing what they do with sea turtle rescue operations. Numerous tanks with rehabilitated turtles of several varieties. They offered a great short talk covering the turtle rescue program they provide. Educational and inspiring.

The kids and I always enjoy viewing the turtles, seeing new ones and learning of ones that left. Doesn't take up too much time and there is no charge. They simply ask for donations to keep the place going. Great for a rainy day as well!

This is a turtle hospital and pretty small. They run on donations, so the price was right. Not many turtles. Just something to do.
