If you like paleontology, general dinosaurs, and amphibians/reptiles/synapsids of the Permian then this place is for you and a must-see. We were highly impressed with the museum exhibits, paleo lab and research program. A+ all they way around. Staff were very friendly and gave us a tour of the lab where a few people were working on Dimetredon fossils. They were renovating their Pleistocene/modern animals exhibit so we didn’t see that, need to go back!

We found a great little museum in Seymour. It is dedicated to the archeological activity around the Seymour area. They are currently digging up a Dimetrodon (named George). Christopher Flis is the museum director and head digger. He gave us a tour of the museum. We actually got to go into the lab where they were cleaning the fossils and working on putting them together. How many museums do you actually get to touch the bones that they are working on and putting together. He has a great sense of the area and he came and went providing information (no hovering) when we asked. They have a "live" reptile and arachnid section with lizards and tarantulas and he got out the corn snake and let everyone pet it. It is not that expensive to tour and i see on the website it is free after 3. they renovated a building and it is in pristine shape. Kudos to Christopher and his team of volunteers that have worked to put this together. They have only been opened since early June.

My son and I were amazed at the opportunity to see field excavations being worked on up close. It was a unique learning experience!

This is a relative new museum - celebrating 5 years in 2019. It is not very large and will not take long to see it all but it is well laid out and has great explanations for its displays.

This excellent museum offers exhibits featuring both the modern and pre-historic wildlife of the region. One of its fossil stars: Dimetrodon, a big-deal finned critter that strode these badlands nearly 300-million years ago (before the dinos!). You can get close-up views of fossils as they're being prepped in the lab, and talk with the folks who are digging up these great finds just a stone's throw from the town of Seymour. There are also live animals--regional reptiles and amphibians, and beautiful mounts of bigger fauna, like mountain lions, buffalo, and a grey wolf. There’s also a nice collection of fossil poop (aka coprolites)...always a hit!
The Museum's director has lots of creative ideas, so I suspect there will be lots to see and do no matter when you visit. They also have a nice gift shop and excellent WMNH t-shirts.

This turned out to be quite the adventure for my daughter and I. Went back a few weeks later and volunteered at the museum. We worked the kiddie paint table, had a blast.

They have the best displays, awesome taxidermy, and a fun living zooseum full of fun reptiles and insects. Chris can give you a tour and tell you all there is to know. Also they have a full working lab open to the public so you can see them actually extract and put back together the beasts they unearth right in this county! Fun for all ages and has a great gift shop too. Everyone needs to come and visit!
