I recently passed ASA 101 and 103 at South Coast Sailing Adventures and highly recommend this sailing school/club to others! Fantastic Experience..
Sailing and Seamanship knowledge of Captains is awesome.
I had a mix of classroom and hands-on instruction and it really built my confidence 👍
I was also honored to join the team on Regatta race and learned SO much with this real practical experience!
Thank you so much for everything, I’m very grateful 👍 and would recommend your school to anyone who truly desires to learn SAILING ⛵️

We took Basic Keelboat Course (ASA 101) a couple of days ago. It was a good mix of classroom and sailing time. I can’t say enough about Captain Craig, our instructor. He has a wealth of knowledge and shares it in a patient, professional, and relatable way. We sailed a Colgate 26. It was in excellent condition. We went back a couple days later for a four hour “Skipper Skill Builder” training session. There was a scheduling mix up. Small problem, but South Coast did not let us down. Captain Lucy, the owner, fixed us right up and gave us a free charter that morning, instead. We were relieved, since we traveled from Kansas and had to leave the next day.
We were very pleased to knock out our course and first family solo sail in the same week. We plan on booking ASA 103 and 104 in the Spring with South Coast, after we log some time on our sailboat at home. These are great people and they really took care of us. I highly recommend them. Give them a call!

Captain Craig was an excellent instructor. He was engaging, encouraging, energetic and covered all the materials several times and in several ways to help everybody understand. Captain Jerry was personable, patient and persistent to work with us on board to learn and master skills and experience to help us understand new concepts. Great class and great crew.

I had an incredible time taking the ASA101 Basic Keelboat course with Captain Craig at SCSA! I could not have asked for a better experience as a relative newcomer to sailing. South Coast Sailing school was incredibly professional, helpful, and friendly in helping me get prepared to take the course, including priority shipping the book/materials in advance and letting you know what to expect. Captain Craig is a fabulous instructor - ranked one of ASA's top instructors in the country - and it is very easy to see why after taking a course with him! Plus the 101 course includes an extra practice session and charter. I'm really convinced you can't find a better place to get started sailing than SCSA. I look forward to taking more courses with them.

Heidi at the helm of the office makes everyrhing run smooth. There is a great selection of boats. Murat, our instructor, taught a a great docking class and was very patient and proffessional. This is a great place to get experience and time on the water!!

Alarm bells sounded when Captain Lucy contacted me specifically to point out that the captain's gratuity (on top of the $320 we'd already paid) must be based on the full price, not the groupon offer price. That means a tip of $120!!! Wow. Despite beING tempted to cancel we made the two hour journey and by the time we arrived the kids were in great need of the bathroom. When asked Captain Lucy informed us that we would be granted the opportunity to 'empty your bladders immediately prior to sailing.' one hour later said opportunity was granted .she also made us move our car and park some distance away even though she herself parked right outside the offices. The sail itself was extremely dull lead by tony who seemed more interested on puffing relentlessly on cheap cigars than instructing us. He cheerfully informed us that the complete absence of wind resulting in a non event of a lesson was completely normal for the time of day the lesson was set. This left the six students with very little to do. I strongly advise you to look elsewhere for your sailing experience.

Everything about this sailing school really exceeded my expectations. I completed the ASA 101 - Basic Keelboat course - with Captain Octavio and loved it! I had previously taken this course (as well as the 103 & 104 combo course) with another shop in the area. After the 101 course at Shop #1, I felt I had many holes in my education and did not understand many of the fundamentals necessary to begin sailing on my own. I thought that by continuing with the next courses with a different instructor at the original shop I would be able to overcome these weaknesses. However, even after the 103/104 at Shop #1, I was still felt I was missing much of the education I needed.
I decided to move to another shop to see if that would help and after some internet research, I choose South Coast. I talked with several staff members and instructors at South Coast and found them to be, first and foremost, very compassionate and understanding of my doubts about my knowledge and skills. Furthermore, once I arrived for a refresher 101 course and entered the classroom, I was immediately impressed with the visual aids that assist with the learning process. Once the classroom instruction began, I could quickly see how Captain Octavio's natural talent for teaching is a huge asset for this shop. He really makes the material easy to understand - and fun - which is the reason we all want to learn to sail in the first place. When we moved to the marina for the on-water portion of class, I was again impressed. The instructional boats are laid out in a very spacious way, and the boats are in excellent condition. Finally, I was very pleased with the location of this school. Because it is on the east side of the bridge, access to the bay is quick, allowing for maximized time learning to sail - not motor - the boat. As someone who was already familiar with motoring, this was important to me. This shop was even open to requests for setting up some training for kids - a service that another student and I felt would be valuable for introducing our kids to sailing and giving them enough knowledge to help trim sails and handle docking lines so that our entire families could enjoy the sailing experience. Way to listen to your customers, South Coast!!!
After re-completing the ASA 101 with South Coast, I now clearly understand all the fundamentals of sailing, I am confident in my skills and I'm ready to tackle my next sailing experience. Can't wait to use my skipper building sessions and take my next ASA class at South Coast!

My buddy and I took the ASA 101 class and it was a blast. Our captain/instructor (Rick) was great.
This was a neat way to spend a couple of days out of town and on the water. Being landlubbers from the west/northwest side of Houston we choose to spend the night on one of their boats. This was the best way to reflect on the day, spend some time hanging on the deck before preparing for the next day's adventure. Awesome experience compared to staying in a local motel.
Thanks Lucy to you and your team...looking forward to continuing our education with this team.

South Coast Sailing Adventures is located in a wonderful spot, the Kemah boardwalk, with plenty to things to do within walking distance. If you have your family, you can take the course and they can go play on the boardwalk. Don’t forget to get a free coupon from the office staff, for a free appetizer, before you go to the board walk.
I took the docking endorsement course over the weekend. It is a two day course with lots of hands on docking. We had wonderful conditions for training with 15-20 knot winds. We also docked a few times at the fuel docks which has a good current, depending on the time of day. The areas we practiced were great for training, with plenty of open slips pointing every direction from the wind. We trained on a Hunter 36 the first day and a Hunter 43 the second day. The boat types very for each class depending on availability, so you may not be on these boats. We tried to go out on a Beneteau both days, but it started having problems, so we switched boats. They have a fairly large inventory, so the switch was very smooth.
I was able to get some great experience over the two day course. I would recommend South Coast Sailing Adventures to anyone in the south Texas area looking to get into sailing. I have had a few friends who have also taken classes with South Coast Sailing Adventures and they liked the courses.

We had a great day for sailing on Galveston Bay, 9 people joined Capt David for a 4 hour sail, and a great intro lesson to sailing as well. The Tranquility is a beautiful boat and we all had the chance to be hands on, whether at the helm or trimming the sails....or we could sit back and enjoy a wonderful day on the boat. I may be inspired to sign up for their sailing lessons now that I am hooked on sailing!
