Yes we walked to each outdoor shrine/grotto and read the markers. Each was lovely, we saw cardinals, mockingbirds and robins among the huge oak trees. We read the outdoor milestones markers and hope a labyrinth might be a way to commemorate the next one.

Stained glass windows are stunning. You don't need a tour guide for the tour, but I felt it was worth it. I believe we booked our tour over a month in advance. So--yes--it's busy.

When visiting family, we were introduced to this breath-taking and exquisite painted church. From the moment we stepped inside, I knew that family members' photos and descriptions hadn't prepared me for the stunning beauty all around me. Everywhere I looked, whether it was at the...More

The signs say that St Mary's is the Queen on the Painted Churches, and while it may not look like a quaint little church from the outside (red brick) the inside will make you gasp in agreement. It is simply breathtaking. You could spend hours...More

We did a self-guided tour of the church and found it to be beautifully decorated with Stainglass windows and stencils.

This is an incredible church which is still active and well supported by the community. The painting and statues are well done and it is a must see.

One of four churches we visited on the painted churches tour. Must see these churches and help preserve their story and history. They are very beautiful!

Completed in 1912 and a real beauty! We were the only people there and the churches are unlocked during the day for visitors.

We enjoyed our visit. Doors to the church didn't seem to match era. Well maintained and quite interesting historically.

Which church has the Christmas Eve Mass and light all the candles in the chandeliers? We toured the churches and hope to go back for the Mass on Christmas Eve but can't recall which church it was. Thanks, Janice Mappes

Oh - sorry but can't answer that one. I KNOW it's NOT Praha (St. Mary's) because that is our church but not sure about the other Painted Churches. You might contact the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce.....I'd love to know... More
