If you like beautiful Catholic Churches, history & off the beaten path experience, this is perfect. We toured 6 churches with my mom, husband & 2 teen girls. We stayed 2 nights at a nearby VRBO in Columbus, and drove to The Schulenburg Chamber Commerce for the tour. We toured 6 Churches , but could have been happy with 4. These churches are truly breathtaking. Most people drive right by the Schulenburg exit on I-10 on their way to somewhere else. Next time, call the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce and arrange to spend a few hours viewing at least 3 of the 6 churches available with a tour guide. We had Sheila as our guide for whom these churches are places where she grew up attending so her stories, along with the history, made them so meaningful. Treat yourself to a meal at Tillie's (across the street from the chamber) before getting back on the road and you'll have a wonderful memory to treasure. …

A lovely day out driving in the rolling countryside and some very beautiful churches. The cost is reasonable, $12 per person and a tip for the guide which for our group was $5 each. Not sure if that is standard or based on group size but we had 14 people.

We scheduled a tour of the painted churches through the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. Naomi greeted us at the chamber and was so very nice and helpful. So much so that I asked if I could take her photo. Terry was our docent/tour guide and she was fantastic. She is a retired Texas history and American history teacher, so it doesn’t get much better than that, but it did. Terry is also a longtime practicing Catholic (we are not Catholic), so she had a lot of additional insight into the practices and insights of the Catholic religion. You follow Terry in your own car. The drive alone from church to church is also part of the fun. We went to four churches. In Dubina, Praha, High Hill and Moravia. I could not pick a favorite. All were beautiful. Please, please, please take the tour through the chamber and ask for Terry. Going on your own, you may not be able to get inside the churches, and even if you luck out and get in, you will not get the incredible insight Terry gives.…
