Very very disappointed at the way as a “club member” I was treated when picking up the membership bottles that were shipped out without previous notice.
If this very low sense of care and appreciation is normal Toward a club member, I can just imagine how any other customer will be treated.
I gave this winery a chance as it is close to Houston, but
Just stay away from the membership!
Some wines are good but customer service is just horrible!
I just hope upper management and ownership look into some type of customer services training, for the best interest of the business.

Being from the Missouri wine country, we always love to try other regions wines and compare wineries. The Galveston Island Visitor's Guide is wrong in stating that the tours and tastings are free for the Haak Winery, as it costs $10. Somehow this concept gets to us when you think you have to pay to taste wine that they want you to buy. Anyway, we visited on a Monday and there was only one other couple doing a tasting. We stood at the tasting bar waiting to make eye contact with the girl doing the tasting and was virtually ignored. I guess she doesn't multi task. We decided to try a single glass of the listed dry wine for $6 as we were not interested in a tour. We were not given an option to just sample the wines and didn't want to chance having to wait for the other couple to finish the tour and their tasting. It only made sense to buy a bottle for the $15, which we took outside on the covered patio. We purchased the 12 Blanc du Bois Dry. We were provide a bucket of ice with the wine with two nice glasses. The wine was just OK to our palette. The "deli" consisted of small boxes of crackers for $4, various cheeses and some salami. We walked around and saw the grape vines with the grapes. It seems that there are planned dinners and music for the weekends but nothing during the weekdays. The wine, employees and the winery itself was a definite disappointment for the long ride from the Island. Maybe the weekends are better or maybe it was just a bad day. That's why we rated the experience as poor.

Visited the winery several times. Owners and staff are fantastic. Very nice atmosphere, comfortable. Would recomend a visit to anyone who came to our little town. Easy to find, not far off the main highway thru town.

This was my first visit to the Haak Winery. The owners have spent quite a bit in order to provide a venue for special events. The guests were friendly and seemd to all be having a good time. Many of them probably attend the concert, every Sunday night. We learned that attendance is based on the band....not the wine and/or dinner. Our group of 4, purchased two different wines, and both were delicious. The staff was very unfriendly, and not helpful at all. We had called the previous day, and were told that (1) the band played German music, (2) that they were having German food and (3) to bring chairs (and/or) get there early. We got there early and brought our own chairs, but it was a Polka band, and apparently not a popular one. We were told inside that we had to buy our wine outside. The guy outside told us that we had to buy our wine inside. We had to ask for a bucket of ice...and the lady gave us plastic cups to drink out of. We felt 'second class' since many others had Haak Winery stemed glasses. The food was terrible, overpriced, greasy, and burnt. There was NO German food, but greasy hamburgers, burnt pretzels, and cheese cubes with 12 round crackers and unwashed grapes. No one apologized for the mix up or bad information. We met, and enjoyed visiting with several other guests...all of whom said they didn't eat there. We drove 45 minutes to get there. We will not go back...we will probably try and buy their wine at a liquor store.

My wife and I toured the Haak vineyards and winery on a sunny Saturday morning. We arrived as they were opening, and were given a private tour that was both educational and entertaining. After the tour we did the tasting, and were given samples of the wines from dry to sweet. As expected, we both loved the sweeter wines , but some of the drier ones really surprised us. They offer a wine club membership, with several perks. A big one is discounts off their wine, along with private parties. Excellent casual way to spend weekend morning and learn about wine.

We bought a tour and tasting for 2 via groupon. We loved the history, atmosphere, and wine so much that we decided to buy a bottle with a meat & cheese tray and spend a few hours sipping and chatting. We met the owner while we sipping our bottle. Wonderful man! We look forward to participating in the harvest.

My family was looking for something to do the day after Thanksgiving, so we ventured to Sante Fe, TX which took about 50 minutes with traffic on I45 S from Houston. We entered the small gift shop where we paid our $10 per person fee for tour and tasting, Four others joined us for the tour which began on the back patio. The initial guide got stage fright after a few sentences (this may have been her first tour), but fortunately another, more knowledgeable guide took her place after a brief wait. We saw and learned about the small vineyard, wine cellar, heating room (for Madeira), and bottling machine, but nothing was in action, of course, since harvesting takes place in July. It felt a little like they were promoting their venue for special events such as weddings and bridal showers since there wasn't much to see. However, following the small tour by a very nice guide, we really enjoyed the tasting of 4 pre-selected wines and a choice of red or white Madeira. A bowl of crackers was provided at each table on the patio, and the server rinsed each glass with water after the tasting of each wine. Note sheets with pencils were provided to help us remember details of the tastings. And they turned on a couple of outdoor heaters at our request since it was as little chilly. We purchased a couple of bottles afterward to enjoy at home. Overall it was an interesting visit, but I'm not sure I would drive there and back again from Houston unless there was some production going on.

Since I live in Houston I'm always on the lookout for good wine or wineries within driving distance. Haak Vineyard and Winery is south of town in Santa Fe. Just a few miles off Highway 6 it seems to be in the middle of nowhere. I like that. You get a real sense of country. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too crowded when we got there. We got a tour of the facility which was very informative and we loved the cellar. Nice and cool. We did the standard tasting and although we weren't blown away with their award winning Blanc du Bois we really loved their Malbec (sourced near the LA border) and Tempranillo. Both were fruity and finished smooth, especially the Tempranillo. Then there was the Medeira. Wow! Haak Vintage Madeira is the first and only commercial Madeira made and bottled in the state of Texas and it fabulous. Since it's so close to home we plan on visiting again soon.

We decided to give this little winery a visit on a recent Monday morning. We have visited wineries all over the world, so really weren't expecting anything remotely drinkable. We opted not to take the tour, but did a tasting. The young lady doing the pours had little to no knowledge of the wines, grapes, etc. When we inquired as to their most popular wine, she mumbled something about sweet wine. So we went the opposite direction, trying the Cab, Tempranillo, and a dreadful white (don't remember the grape!). The Cabernet was very soft & lacking in tannin, but the Tempranillo was quite drinkable--we bought a couple of bottles. We decided to go for it, & went ahead & tried the two Madeiras, a red & a blanc du Bois, the winery's flagship grape. Ended up with a couple bottles of that Madeira. Who knew? The tasting room is very small, but does look like a winery tasting room (not a fan of the ones that look like a lab!). If you have a little time to spare, check it out!

I am planning to go with my family! Do they have a restaurant as well?

They provided our wine tasting group with fruit, meats, and cheeses, crackers, etc, but there wasn't an actual restaurant on site to sit down and eat at.

This is a very late response but yes teenagers are allowed to taste but a parent must be with them. It cannot be another adult. This is TABC law. Thank you for asking.
