Rockport is a great fishing and artist community. Rockport/ Fulton were heavily damaged in hurricane Harvey. The recovery is slow however, Rockport remains strong. Many hotels and restaurants are open. The fishing is great whether it is redfish, flounder, black drum or trout.. The Texas...More

We visited the beach on a Monday in August and despite the rain we had a blast. We hung out by the salt water pool and we saw several hermit crabs and plenty of cabbage head jellyfish. A mother dolphin and her baby found their...More

Nice family beach. Shallow water, cabanas and picnic tables. Sand was somewhat gravelly and water was extremely warm due to shallow water. No waves.

This beach is honestly one of the cleanest beaches that I have ever been to. Originally I am from California and newly Texan, so I didn’t know what to expect. (I kept them low as to not be disappointed.) I was very surprised to see...More

There is still damage from Hurricane Harvey. More sand will probably be added later. The water was cool for this time of the year. It's nice that they added places to sit in the shade. Wish that they hadn't cut the grass and wild flowers....More

We actually used Air B&B but unfortunately the owners told us we were the last renters as they were moving back into the home as their primary residence. Rockport is great though - go visit!

Seaweed? (0 Replies)
Coming from CC tho new to the area, wondering if a road trip to Rockport beach would be worth making? What's the condition of the beach and the seaweed situation? Thanks!

Rockport beach or Port Aransas beach (5 Replies)
We have been trying to decide between the two and I am mainly trying to avoid lots of jellyfish. But I wonder if the Rockport still has some fun waves for the kids?

There is no way to guarantee you will avoid jellyfish at either. Rockport is more kid friendly. Port Aransas offers much more to see and do in my opinion. Both are nice.

Family beach day (3 Replies)
Planning a trip for some relaxing in August. We will be in Houston for a couple days and after we are done there want to swing down to Corpus Christi area for a couple days. Would just be my wife and I and our 7yr old twins. Just looking for a day at the beach to relax and enjoy and cool off in the water. Would consider a dolphin or boat tour. Would also like to eat some good sea food somewhere in the evening. Based on research so far we have narrowed choices down to Rockport Beach...More

The drive is not stop and go but there is some awful construction on Hwy 59 as you leave Houston that can definitely slow you down if you hit rain or if there is an accident as the roadway narrows for about 10 miles or so. I can't recommend Rockport as Hurricane Harvey clean up continues and the beach is small compared to the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico on Mustang Island south of Port Aransas. I do not have any knowledge of Port A hotels, most stay in condos along Mustang island like...More
