The Interurban Railway Museum is strategically located in Plano's Haggard Park and surrounding historic downtown and neighborhood. Amenities such as a playground, picnic tables, a bandstand, and a small pond can be found within the park. Parking is available in the lot immediately adjacent to the museum and the DART rail stop. Museum guests will enjoy a tour of Railway Post Office Car #360, guided by a uniformed rail car motor man. Guests will learn about the rail post office system, discuss period advertising in the train car and learn more about electric rail travel. Guests will also tour the Interurban Railway Museum, learning about regional history in the history room, exploring interactive displays in the science room and experiencing the working "O" scale model train layout and other period artifacts. For those wishing to explore the park and surrounding neighborhood, information is available for a walking tour of the historic area surrounding the museum. Also, be sure to ask about the public art pieces in the neighboring park and the museum's time capsule! Every Friday at 10:30 a.m. the museum offers a children's story time, hosted by professional storyteller Genie Hammel. The museum is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Saturday 1 - 5 p.m. Special field trip programs are available upon request.

A quaint but information little museum about the role of the railroad in Plano's history. Tour an actual train car as well.

I've been going to this park for 20+ years. It has always been extremely well kept, clean and fun. The DART Rail system has a stop here and it borders Old Town Plano. It has parking and clean restrooms. It even has a HORSE and a large pond. The swings and jungle gym are perfect for preteens. It has the added... More

The museum is located in Haggard Park on 15th across from the Dart Station. This is a wonderful small historical train station with many wonderful artifacts to look at. We were able to go inside the rail cart on display at the end of the tour which was fun to look at. Great for everyone, families, couples, friends or just... More

There is a small museum inside (nice A/C and restrooms too) which explained the development and role of the railway between Waco and Frisco; good exhibits and helpful staff. Then you can climb aboard one of the old rail cars, which was located in the hands of a private owner and then renovated as one of three cars (out of... More

Despite the lack of nostalgia of 'Historical' Downtown Plano, this small museum is packed with local history! The museum is housed in the original 1908 two-building structure -- the front building was the depot/waiting area, while the rear brick building housed the generators which provided the electricity to power the train. The museum has numerous historical photos, as well as... More

It was well done and the station and car outside were beautifully restored. The museum is free but relies on donations which are well deserved. The grand kids really liked the tour of the old interurban mail/coach car. A nice one hour visit next to a very nice historic shopping district.

A step back in Time. Great to see some Historical vintage memorbilia . The history of the old train is here in the Park in Downtown Plano. There is a fountain & an area to walk. You can see the actual size of this railcar & touch. It is like going back in time.

We visited in the museum when the Plano International Festival was taking place right next to it. It was a very interesting experience for us and for our kids (ages 4.5 - 19), so I would recommend that to any family. The museum surveys some history of the area and the railroad, and also has some nice demos in the... More

Nice for a quick stop. Lots of history & interesting pictures. Right in downtown Plano. I would recommend allowing an hour to two.
