We visited the Phoenix Saloon in September and loved the place. It felt like the old, quintessential Texas bar. The chilli was all Texas, no beans, and made from sirloin. It was just a fun place and I wished we had been there on a Saturday night!

We were in town with some friends and needed somewhere to eat. They had been to this place before so we went in and grabbed a table so we could watch the band on the stage. Because of the band, it was LOUD; so conversation was not the centerpoint of our evening. We ordered several items to share at the table - all bar food. Drinks were good; food was decent but nothing amazing; just fried stuff. Not sure I would beeline for this place to return; but we had a nice time regardless...

This bar seems to have become a regular for me every time I go through New Braunfels. A full bar with a great selection of beer too. I seem to always be there near lunch time, so I've never experienced their live entertainment.. but I can say that the food is always pretty darn good. I like to sit at the bar itself, the staff is always nice and pleasant to have a conversation with. The old time saloon setting is nice too.. it fits the old down town area. Check this place out if you have the chance.

We were out on the town with friends doing a pub crawl. We stopped in for a drink (The captain and coke) tasted like coke and water, the band wasn’t very entertaining, everything sounded the same. We didn’t stay long, wasn’t a great experience but I’m sure we’ll be back to give it another try.

I am well aware of the fact that this is a saloon. The only reason I decided to try it was because the food network recommended it for their red chile. I like a bowl of spicy chile even in July and so my partner and I ventured out after our swim at health link. First of all, others who appeared after we ordered got their food first. When ours finally arrived, my chile was not even warm. His chile hamburger was well received. I took my lil bowl of chile to be zapped and whilst waiting, I asked the cook if they had a slice of onion or a slice of jalapeno. He said I had to go back to the bar so the keeper could ring me up. The cornbread was cake and cold. The waitress did not bring me a setup, only a spoon. How should I smear butter on cold cornbread? The chile was mediocre, and the service was nil. $9 bux for a half bowl of bland chile? The clip on Food Network showed a huge bowl with serrano, jalapenos and seemed so inviting My only meal of the day ruined again.
