My son and I had traveled all the way from Oklahoma to see "Asleep at the Wheel"...a group that we have seen 3 other times. Since all the virus stuff hit the fan, concerts are at a premium and tickets are hard to get. As a result, the indoor seating was already taken. There is a nice area outside where we viewed the performance on a big screen. Not the same as being inside, but still very nice.

My wife and I stopped in at Gruene after a late lunch at Black's Original. I had wanted to see the dance hall after reading about it. I also had watched the ZZ Top documentary where they played a few tunes. I wish there was a show or some music there, but the sense of this place was not lost on the visit. A Lone Star beer and a stay under the shade trees was worth it for me. The walk inside the hall allowed me to see the signs, stage, and back bar. Worth a return trip!

This is probably the best, most fun place in this part of Texas. The oldest dance hall in Texas is still rocking. Filled with happy people having fun, drinking, dancing , and enjoying themselves.

Gruene Hall is a treasure of an old historical Texas dance hall. Enjoyed the live music and the the hall sweeps you away to a time long ago as it has been maintained to reflect that history. John Travolta danced there in his movie “Michael”. Great place!
