This place is a Texas Icon, so very painful to be the grumpy complainer. While enjoying a beverage with friends on a very rainy Sunday afternoon, a busboy leaned over to clear bottles from the table and dumped an entire bottle of stale beer on my shirt/pants. He and I had a joke about it, no harm done, and I... More

Amazing place. So old and original. Takes you back in time. If only the walls could talk. We just loved this place.

This is where John Travolta danced in the movie, 'Michael'. It just looks like an ordinary country bar/dance hall with picnic tables lined up in rows and a huge dance floor. Posters of musicians line the walls. You have to go to the bar to get your drink. But this place is a lot of fun. It has live music... More

I've lived in Texas my whole life and can't believe it took me so long to visit this historical establishment. If you like historic places, good music and dancing, hot summer nights, and cold beer then you will have a great time! The hall has a very old fashioned feel with the old wooden dance floor, no AC, big shop... More

Step back into the 40's or 50's! This is an old-time honky tonk. They had a great band playing (no cover). Couples were 2-stepping, it was very cool. Check out the pictures on the walls to see all the history - Willie Nelson, George Strait, etc. This is the place that the bar scene in the John Travolta "Michael" was... More

I love anyplace historic, and Gruene Hall fits the bill. So many big stars have gotten their start here and continued to return! You can find great live music here almost any time. Monday nights usually host a song-swap with two musicians who don't usually play together. Summer Tuesdays are Two Ton Tuesdays, with Two Tons of Steel hosting a... More

Historic Gruene Hall should be on everyone's Texas bucket list. We have visited Gruene Hall on multiple occasions. This time we attended a paid concert. Music was great but they removed almost all of the seating so everyone must stand up to see anything. Not a great venue to see a particular artist. You can have more fun dropping in... More

If these walls could talk...or sing! The Gruene Hall has such a great history for country music it's staggering. Standing in the entrance looking at George Straight's first album cover shot back in 1975 that was taken at Gruene Hall. I mean wow! The town is utterly charming and worth a weekend stay to take in some country music.
