Mission trails is a good, safe place to ride without risking life and limb from texting drivers. It does get busy on weekends with riders, walkers and runners, so one has to be mindful of them. There are also improve dirt trails for the more serious mountain biker. The paved trail ends up at Bentsen State Park, where you can ride free if you have a parks pass, or pay a nominal fee. Abundant wildlife viewing(especially birds).

I think the City of Mission Hike & Bike Trails is one of the best parks in the Mission/McAllen area. There are about 3 miles of paved trails for road biking and 3-5 miles of mountain biking trails. At the 3 mile mark of the paved trails, you can continue riding through on Military Highway and Bentsen Palm Drive to get to Bentsen Rio Grande Valley State Park. The mountain bike trails are for beginners, however, there are some intermediate level areas scattered throughout the park. As of April 2015, there were no restrooms or water fountains. Bring plenty of water and snacks if you plan to be here more than an hour. There is no lighting after hours, therefore, you need to bring a flashlight or start calling it quits before dark. As far as I'm concerned there is no map of the biking trails, so, you need to be well-oriented. If you are there during the weekend, there are always bikers you can ask for directions. Overall, this place is great! Highly recommend it to everyone. After all, it is free!

The Mission Hike and Bike Trails offer 5 miles of paved trails and 6 miles of single track trails. These trails are easily accessed from the trailhead parking lot located on Conway Avenue just south of Highway 183.

The single track trails are fantastic. Kudos to the Mission Trails Club for maintaining these trails. These winding and narrow hard-packed trails are great for trail runners and all levels of mountain bikers, from beginners to expert riders.

All of the trails are clearly marked, indicate the level of expertise needed to enjoy the trail, and wind their way through cactus and mesquite — great motivators for not losing your balance.

I logged 17 miles on the morning of my first ride and enjoyed every minute. I had so much fun that I headed back to the trails after lunch to ride a bit more. I’m glad I did. I tried out some of the more difficult trails and had an absolute blast. I also rode down the paved trail to the World Birding Center and enjoyed a pleasant ride through Bentson State Park.

If you enjoy mountain biking and are headed to South Texas, I encourage you to visit the Mission Hike and Bike Trails. You won’t be disappointed. I will never head south again without my mountain bike.

A great asphalt bike trail that g I es from Bentsen Rio Grande State Park on a beautiful winding path to the bike center on Conway. Great scenery only 1 hill, so even novices can try it.

I write this trail service times a week, and never tire of the great bicycling, bird watching, etc. We call it the road runner trail because we have seen roadrunners each time we've ridden this trail for the last five years, with few exceptions. It is heavily used, but this is never been an issue, and the users are courteous and polite.

My husband is a runner and bike rider. We go there at least once a month. He enjoys all the different trails. It's great that they have restrooms now. We will be going back to enjoy this park. Thank you to the city of Mission for making this park.

The trails are fun to ride, especially fast, it's more interesting when you have all that cactus in some areas, you want to be safe and go slow there... easy to get there, if you're in the valley and can get your bike, hit the trails, exercise and have fun for a while

too many low branches and grass is too high. Needs a lot of maintenance. The restrooms are normally really dirty as well.

This area is close to the highway, but once you start walking/hiking/biking, you kind of forget about that. Well marked trails and plenty of foliage. A good place for exercising or just enjoying an evening stroll.

Local people surely enjoy this area very close to the thruway but off in the country just the same. McAllen has everything you’ll ever need very close by with Bike Masters bike shop near by too. A great bike store managed by good people.
