This was the first park we visited for our birding vacation in the Valley. It was a great introduction to the birds in the area. We saw 4 species that we had not seen before. The volunteer that lead the bird walk was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. It was initially supposed to last only 2 hours but lasted 3 hours.

If birding is your thing, this is the place! It is one of those designated as a World Birding Center park. Lots of walking trails and places to explore. Bird blinds are really well made and designed. Our favorite blind was the Green Jay Blind, where we saw many Great Kiskadees, Green Jays, Altamira Orioles, Cardinals, Golden-fronted Woodpecker, etc.--and a... More

This relatively small state park is a true gem!!! Many types of birds, plants and animals can be seen. The park operates a tram that goes thru the park stopping at bird blinds, hawk tower and points of interest. The staff and volunteers are extremely friendly and full of local knowledge that they enthusiastically share with visitors. Bring some water... More

The park is a fantastic place to view wildlife, especially birds. Our favorite spot is the blind just past Kingfisher lake. Lots of Green Jays, Golden Fronted Woodpeckers, Orioles and on this last visit, a javalina.

We always see a variety of birds at this park. There are several feeding stations, a couple with photography blinds.

My husband and I love to go to the park either in the morning or before dusk to see the wildlife moving around. We've seen green jays, kiskadees, cardinals, orioles and chachalakas of course. We've also seen rattle snakes, javelinas and a young bobcat along with all the regular suspects!! But what I love most is how it reminds me... More

We were staying in a RV park almost right beside this State park, so we decided to check ti out, by taking the guided tour on the tram, with some stops) We really enjoyed it. The guide Roy was a fountain of knowledge and gave us lots and lots of information on the park, the wild life etc. He knew... More

Eight of us went on a birding adventure to the park. We had a drizzly overcast day that was supposed to break by 10:30 am according to the forecasts. We were greated at the park entrance by the melodic song of a Curved Bill Thrasher. We paid our entrance fee of $5 and then took the included tram ride. Our... More

Practically in Mexico (turn off your cell phone roaming before you go...) the Bensten State park has bird feeders and short trails that allow for viewing a great variety of birds. You have to put up with the occasional Border Patrol helicoptor or SUV roaming about. It also has a viewing platform, a location for fishing, and lots of water... More
