When they say this is the birding capitol of the USA they aren't kidding. Great walking trails, bird blinds, and full feeders to draw them in close. If you have a birding list and want to start checking off those hard to find birds start here.

We loved this place so much we went back there again 2 more times in 2 days. I highly recommend that you get there when they open because they go around and fill all the feeders at their 8-10 feeding stations. Lots of birds of all types can be seen and not just in the morning at the feeders. We... More

We have lived in the Rio Grande valley for 30 + years, and have gone to this park on numerous occasions. It's beautiful peaceful and a wonderful place, to ride bikes, have a picnic, bird watch and enjoy nature. They have plenty of tables, bbq pits, and shady places to relax on a hot summer afternoon. There are lots of... More

We are not birders but the quantity and variety of birds at this park were staggering. Lady at the interpretive center was especially helpful. We saw so many different types of unusual birds but always love to see the Hawks. Great trails. Another quality state park in Texas!

This is our favorite birding location so far. Just a wonderful place to walk, bike and enjoy nature. The volunteers are friendly and full of knowledge. We are not serious birders but like looking and they helped educate us without being demeaning. The facility lends itself to a full day with clean restrooms, plenty of space for a picnic lunch... This is quite the destination for birders. We took the tram and got the lay of the land. I will go back on my bike to explore. Be sure to bring binoculors and a camera when you go.

We always enjoy the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. There is wonderful walking/biking trails and we especially like the tram tour which is not an additional cost. They have great programming like the night hikes. Be sure to reserve early because they do fill up fast. The staff is always very knowledgeable and friendly

This nice state park caters to birders, with good reason. The Rio Grande Valley is home to many species not seen farther north. The visitor center was very informative, and volunteers helped find and identify unfamiliar birds. There is a shuttle that can take you farther in the park since cars aren't allowed (this time of year). Trails were well-marked,... More

We went here three times during our stay in the RGV. It is a good place to walk with lots of birds. There are feeders at numerous sights. There are also blinds with feeders. The blinds are a good place to sit and watch the feeders. The blinds are also excellent places to take pictures with openings to place your... More

If you're down in the Brownsville area for birding, Bentsen is a must!!! You could spend half a day just birding around the main center. But do get out into the park. They have shuttles, but we preferred to walk. There were birds everywhere. We say Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, Gray Hawk, Altamira Oriole, Long-billed Thrasher, Green Jay, etc.... It was a... More
