It's a beautiful park. Go around 5 in the afternoon and you will see a lot of animals. They have a free trolley that will take you around. Warning, if you walk it all. It is a long walk! Don't be fooled. Ride your bikes instead.

There are several trails where you can enjoy more secluded bird watching. They also have a bird blind, a good place to rest if you are tired.

Borders the Rio Grande River. Birders love this place. Butterflies, feral hogs, and a great winter climate. Well groomed trails.

We went for a day scouting adventure/service project and I want to go back and kayak there. I think you can camp there as well.

We spent a few days at the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park. We were fortunate enough to go birding with Roy Rodriguez who is a superlative guide. We used our bikes to tour the bike which is a great way to see the various areas without having to deal with vehicles. Birding was just Ok - not very cooperative when... More

We went to Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley on a warm and humid day. The mosquitos were out in force, and they made our day a bit less enjoyable. The park is huge, but we decided to walk some of the trails and visit the hawk tower. The staff was very nice telling us that the tram operates every hour (on the... More

Someday, if we become Winter Texans, we can come here on a cooler day as birding in 97 degree heat was unbearable and extensive walking impossible. We were very thankful for the shuttle that comes through every hour and the feeding stations were great. Who knew that Chachalacas love peanut butter?! It was hilarious to watch them empty a peanut... More

We like to drop down here and watch the river wind by while munching on their marvelous nachos and a drink. Boat rides are great to bring visitors on.
