The Depot and Museum are GREAT!
Without detracting from the building and exhibits - the "downside" of the facility is that it is an "Amtrak" station - so people will likely associate it with delays delays, and more delays as is Amtrak's signature. Fortunately the Museum gives delayed travelers something to do while they wait and wait some more. There is a lot of history here - both local and regional - and it's a tribute to the visionary folks who preserved this station and the items on exhibit. It's free and definitely worth a visit even if you don't plan on taking the train!

    Worth the trip
The musuem is small but worth the stop. If you stop during the time that Amtrack train is coming stopping this is a real treat. The Amtrack hostess,Martha Ann Morland, is a wonderful person to visit with. She knows a lot of train history and Mineola history. A great treat if she is there. The Amtrack stops in around 9:30 am and 5:00 pm, or course times varies but you can check the schedule. You do not want to miss this if you are in Mineola.

    Train Depot Museum
This is worth a quick stop, depot museum with history of Mineola. This depot is still in use today with the Amtrak.

It is quaint, cute, has a nice attendant to help answer questions. Great for kids traveling with parents into Dallas and beyond.

My 81 year old mother who is an avid quilter enjoys visiting the quilting shop in Mineola, aka The Best Little Quilt Shop In Texas. For a mother/daughter trip weekend trip, we rode the train from Texarkana to Mineola to arrive at the B&B (a delightful place, but that is another review. The Depot and Railroad Museum was a wonderful surprise when we got off the train while waiting for our rental car. The train history was very enjoyable and the photos are awesome! Take the time to walk through and see the Golden Age of the Train! Well worth it!

It tells the story of the Railroad going into Texarkana. My brother-in law worked for them for 40 years. I like anything about the railroad.

I loved the quaint depot that brings you back in time when the railroad was THE way to travel. The historians have done a good job of preserving pieces of how the railroad came to and changed Mineola.

The Railroad Museum is housed in the back part of the Mineola Depot which has been restored back to its 1906 appearance and is currently an Amtrak designated stop. The Railroad memorabilia dates back to the early 1900's and though not as extensive as the Cotton Belt Railroad Museum in nearby Tyler, Texas it is worth a stop if only for the shiny red caboose parked outside the depot.

The Mineola Depot and Railroad Museum is open 7 days a week from 9 am - 5 pm.
There is ample parking nearby and it is Handicap Accessible.

The town of Mineola is conveniently located on Hwy. 80 & 69, 15 miles from I-20 on Hwy 69, 35 miles from Interstate 30. Mineola is 1.5 hours East of Dallas TX and 2 hours West of Shreveport LA.

A nice selection of history about the local rails. If any staff are there they can offer a lot more. It is also an Amtrak stop.

A neat place to visit. While not a large museum, there are plenty of artifacts and displays that tell a great story of the history of the railroad.
