I don’t know which was more memorable, Cofete beach or the drive to get to the beach. Probably the drive!! I drove a small car and was fine but I probably would not have wanted a mini compact car for this road since it’s an Extreme dirt track with a length of 10.5km, leading to Cofete Beach.

The road is extremely narrow in some places, and includes steep drops to the side.

The route starts in the village of Morro Jable, head towards the commercial dock, just before reaching the dock, go down a slope, you are on the right with a dirt track marked Cofete. The ascent to the top of the Moro Mountain 230m of altitude (you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view of the beach) is not to bad but the descent which stretches about 5 miles of sinuous curves and sheer drops is intense.

Once you reach the bottom, there is a small shanty town with a bar and restaurant and then it’s another km or so to the large beach parking lot.

Cofete beach is beautiful with the mountain backdrop and the expansive beach as far as you can see.

This beach is absolutely beautiful and worth a visit. However to get here it can be dangerous. Once you get onto the dirt road count about 45 min/ 1 hour to get to the beach if you’re not used to driving on these kind off roads. Take plenty of water and some food. There is only one restaurant that is about 5 minutes in car from the beach on the dirt road. The dirt road is used often so it is in pretty good shape but lots of twists and turns. On the way up or down stop at the mirrador for a beautiful view. This beach can be very windy.

Wednesday 11th November we had just been to visit the remote Faro de Jandia (Lighthouse) and we were heading back in the direction of Morro Jable.

From the signpost at Cofete Junction we drove a further 8 kilometres to Cofete through the mountainous terrain of the Natural Park of Jandia. The scenery on the way was spectacular with a variety of shapes and colours of rock formations.

The unsurfaced road was a bit hair raising at times but all of it was worth it. We did stop to enjoy and appreciate the view, at a viewing point along the way, Punto de Vista Sobre Puerto de Montana, spectacular.

Cofete is a small village in the western part of the Jandía peninsula.

The amazing beach with its golden sands just stretches out along the coast. The crystal clear blue/green waters crash on to the sand. Be aware that at times in can be rather windy and the waves can be rather large and swimming might not be advisable.

The beach is surrounded by mountainous terrain which just enhances the beauty of the place.

There are no facilities on the beach, nothing at all, which just serves to make it more amazing.

The infamous Winter Villa, subject of numerous conspiracy theories, is also visible from the beach.

While we were here we visited the Cemetery of Cofete which is on the beach.

« Guagua de Cofete »

This review concerns exclusively the bus service to the beach of Cofete, the famous « Guagua de Cofete ».
There are two buses per day going out of Morro Jable in direction of the beach and two per day coming back.
The problem is that the system does not admit reservation for any of the trips. You thus have to arrive well in advance without knowing if you will get one of the very limited seats on the bus. If you are lucky and go to the beach, you have no guarantee that you will get a seat on the trip back. Each time the bus leaves, there are no orderly queue but a confuse push forward the driver does not bother to organize.
The fact is: people are left behind!
This does not seem to bother the driver who even commented « it is the law of the jungle! If I have to leave people behind, I do it! »
With such lazy organisation and abysmal quality of service, I do not recommend to use this bus at all.
If you do, be mentally prepare to come back walking - while quite feasible - it is a nice 8 Km hike through the island, with a wonderful view on top - it is not something everybody is ready (or able) to do…

Cofete wild beach, Fuerteventura.
Fuerteventura is called a nudist paradise and that is true. With the exception of the town’s common beaches, nudism is legal and a favorite. The beaches are more beautiful and spectacular than each other. It seems that the whole island is one big wonderful beach full of many naked, relaxed and happy people. Cofete beach is one of the most beautiful and although the road to it is poor, but it is redeemed by the natural beauty of the beach. Enjoy.

We only visit this beach for an hour at the afternoon in windy, cloudy day but it was still amazing. Huge beaches, with sand dunes, beautiful colour of water. We wish we could see this beach in day full of sunshine

Cofete - no matter how many reviews you've read beforehand, this wild beach will totally amaze you. The views and the feeling you have when standing in the water looking left and right and up and down, are worth all the nerves you might lose while driving there. And there is even a spooky mystery house up in the mountain (Villa Winter) you can marvel about while taking a careful swim.
The ride is not easy, however not as bad as many suggest. Just do it in your own rhythm (which meant for us not going much faster than 20 km/h, but hey, who cares as long as you let the faster ones overtake you), stop whenever there was a chance to still enjoy the view and just not be in a rush. In the end, the road is actually very good up until the viewpoint (a little more than halfway there from Morro Jable) and afterwards it gets shakier, but still absolut doable. Don't do it with a small rental car and if so, then probably even slower (cause they strictly state not to leave the paved streets and this is definitely not a paved street).
However, all worth it. Highlight of your Fuerteventura trip (promise).

Definitely one of the most beautiful places of the world. Difficult to reach. Natural road. Attention; normal car rentals do not allow to go there.
The beach is clean empty original untouched. With luck you can see free living turtels

The beach itself is second to none, I say this everytime I see another amazing beach in Fuerteventura, but this one will take some beating.

The views as you travel along the unmade road are breathtaking, as is the road at times. The journey is the best part of an hour, eachway from Morro Jable, on this so called road, but worth it, even the earache on the way.

Just before you reach the beach you drive through Cofete, which is also a sight to see as so far away from normal civilised life, & beware of the donkey, who wants to get in your car with you, then chases you down the road.

Well worth the drive if your bones & car can survive.

If you really want to see it better take bus. We went there by rental car. On our way back we realised that something was wrong. When I saw the the tire I was shocked- it was completely destroyed. Luckily some local couple stoped and helped. We left car there and they gave us lift to the hotel.
Not worth. There are many other places to see here and be safe at the same time.
