If the ski lifts wake up your hip rheumatism, rest assured: the area is mostly served by comfortable and spacious chairlifts. We were lucky to have good weather and made a splendid exploration on skis crossing forests and alpine pastures, having views of the Aiguilles d'Arves and the Devil...The mountain is splendid in Maurienne. Lovers of original crowns, go!

Very good place for skiing. A lot of slopes a lot of possibilities for winter sports...you can choose slopes from green to red and skiing a lot of kilometres down the beautiful hills...Very good ski-lifts,very nice place...on the slopes You can find a lot of bars,restaurants... In my opinion one of the best ski-areas in Europe.

Quiet, scenic and full of great green and blue runs, very suitable for family with small kids and new beginners.

Stayed in Valmeinier 1800 and skied throughout the valmeinier and vallore ski areas.
The area provides great value skiing. We skied in half term, yet we rarely queued for lifts.
It was rarely below zero and reached 10 degrees in the sun 1 day, yet the pistes were maintained in 1st class conditions despite no snow in 13 days by the time we left.
Great range of green and blue slopes and a mix of easier and challenging reds. Great fun parks in both resorts.
Night life is very quiet in Valmeinier. Not a lot happens after 7:30pm, makes it great for families or couples looking for a quiet time. That said there are some amazing restaurants serving traditional alpine meals to explore.
Overall quieter than some of the bigger alpine resorts, but that does not detract from the great skiing. None of the big UK tour operators go here Personally that's one of the reasons I would highly recommend it.

We had the best week skiing in Valmeinier/Valloire. The sun shone every day & although there were occasionally icy slopes this was mitigated by some very proactive snow canon usage 😎 It's snowing there right now!
Our Boys (nearly 4 &7) were very well looked after by the wonderful staff in the Gallipette 2 and also given expert ski instruction in the ESF ski school .
It was so wonderful to be able to enjoy skiing knowing our children were being well cared for & progressing thier ski skills.
We stayed in Valmeinier in Easter 2018 and hope to return again soon😎

150km of pistes, with all categories, from green to black, and you can combine everything. We used to combine green, blue and red, total lenght more than 5km. Best part is middle hill, Crey du Qart, with long and wide slopes, also all categories.
The maintainance is very good, every morning the pistes were nice and clean.
Pros: huge variety of pistes, especially for intermediate skiers and children. You can combine all 3 hills and all difficulties.
Cons: some cables are slow, and sometimes I needed almost 30 mins to get where I wanted. Also, the food prices on the slopes are very high - ie. hamburger 100g 5.5 eur! The prices of drinks are little bit better, but still high. But then again, it is France.

Never heard of this resort before, so took a gamble (booked through SkiFrance) was a really good resort. Their website was really informative, which we used to deci to go there and keep an eye on the snow etc before we went.
Plenty of runs. Maps don't look like there's many lifts, but re than enough as loads of really long runs.

Overall a very nice ski area linking well with valoire.
Piste maintenance at Valmeinier is however much noticeably better than Valmeinier

It comes to something when a blue or red is easier than a green!
Lovely blue and red runs - hideous greens that all appear to be trails so if a bit anxious with drop offs this is not the place for you.
That said lovely family resort and skiing very good if not windy (they switch the lifts off pretty quickly here). Idela for families but not for groups as apres is poor

Excellent ski resort for families and mixed ability groups. Very scenic with wide open sunny skiing - I ski most of the season there, usually January and March. Avoid February, it gets very busy ( French half term is spread over the whole month.)

If you are not skiing, is there anything else to do?
Written September 25, 2016
Unfortunately not. The station is very small, there is only a movie theater with one show per day ... No shopping center, no spa, nothing to do except skiing.
Written December 29, 2016
